Video: Ink Organization + Storage + DISCOUNT CODES + GIVEAWAY

Hi there. Today’s video is an update on my ink organization and storage.

[All supplies are linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Affiliate links used. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

I’ve shared many ink videos in the past, but I’ve added a few things to my system and wanted to share.

COLOR CODING

First, let’s talk about color identification. There are a few things I found helpful:

  • Ink Swatch Book – I find this essential when creating. It saves me so much time in matching inks and creating color combos. I have a free download of the swatches HERE, along with a video on how to create your own.
  • Brother Label Maker – I print out a label for each side of my ink pads. I like that the labels are durable and hold up nicely over time. (Many of the ones you print on your computer get messy quickly and fall off.)
  • Ink Dots – This is something I’ve recently started doing and I really find it helpful to see the true color of the ink pad at first glance. I stamp the color on top of two dots sandwiched together and adhere it next to the label. I encourage you to get your kids involved in helping. (A big shout out to Colin and my friend/right-hand-stamper Heather for helping me create all these dots!)

Note: I don’t think it is necessary to do all three of the systems above. It just depends on how many inks you have, how you work, etc. Maybe one would do the trick for you. I find all three helpful since I have a lot of inks for my job. (By the way, it is completely unnecessary to own as many inks as I do. This is my job and that is the only reason I have so many. Inks are like shoes – we all need and want something different, so you just need to pick what suites you. I show lots of inks in my videos to help you pick.)

INK STORAGE

I have a few ways I store my inks:

  • Organize More – I am a huge fan of Organize More… both the people and the products. I have several of their ink units in my craft room and cannot recommend them enough. They are amazing. You can get a closer look at these storage units in THIS video.

The kind people at Organize More are offering a 10% off code for my readers. Just use the code “MCGUIRE715” now thru 7/25/15. (And see below for a big giveaway!)

  • Stampin’ Up Ink Caddy – This option is great if you have a small desktop space for ink storage. I’ve placed a couple of these in a deep cabinet and have been happy with them. I like that each unit holds 48 ink pads and swivels for easy access. There is also a storage area on top to hold re-inkers.

If you’d like to get one of these caddies, just click HERE to shop with my friend Lydia Fiedler. If you use hostess code FEBAUNEW (enter this after clicking to view your shopping bag) you will go into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to her store. Lydia is awesome. If there was a unicorn made out of glitter it couldn’t be more awesome than she is. 😉

Here is one of my Organize More units. It is just a thing of beauty…

And here is a look at how the inks fit into the Stampin’ Up Caddy. I do like how this baby spins around easily…

Love the organizers. I wish I was as organized as you!

  2. Nicki says:

I am embarrassed to say my ink pads are just stacked one on top of another on a shelf. I would love one of the organizers.

  3. Mary Holshouser says:

My Stampin’ Up pads are colored coded (by the company).
Most of the rest are just stacked up. I need to put this idea into practice.
    thanks.

  4. claudine Renault says:

    J’aime beaucoup ton site. Bises
    claudine.

  5. Nancy Smith says:

I love seeing the stamp pad organized. All mine are currently in a drawer upside down. I would love to have them in their own stamp cabinet!

  6. Deb Chambers says:

I’ve been using your organizing ideas. I love being organized! I really like Organized More! If I didn’t keep buying ink pads I wouldn’t need a new organizer

  7. Cassandra Webster says:

Currently, I’m in the process of organizing my inks. I’m new to crafting. Well, not brand new. I used to be into crafts big time 15 or so years ago. But I’m starting again and since I had gotten rid of my craft stuff years ago, I get to start from scratch. Which is quite exciting, I think. So right now, my inks are in boxes or on top of one of my craft tables, looking rather sad and wanting a permanent home. LoL!

  8. Rema Timm says:

Love your ink organization. I just store mine on a shelf…

  9. Debra Perl says:

I love all your videos and have implemented a few, paper being one. My inks are stored in a wooden cassette box on the wall and a Close to my Heart ink holder like your Stamp’n Up one. There are a few just laying on my table too.

  10. SN Taffe says:

I use a small unit with 8 shallow drawers that I purchased from the Shopping Channel (In Toronto, Canada) about 5 years ago. I can’t remember the name of it but it is expandable and stackable, though I only have the one. It didn’t really work for me for a long while (since I am an out of sight out of mind type) until I created my colour agent catalogue. Now I not only use all my inks, markers, paints, etc., but I know where everything is stored as well 🙂

  11. Lisa says:

I store my inks in a wooden octagonal carousel that I bought online about 10 years ago. 4 sides have slots for the pads and 4 sides have small triangular shelves to hold the refill inks. It can hold 52 pads. I’ve been hard pressed to justify a new system, but the Organize More shelves are tempting! I just found your website a couple of weeks ago and am in love with your organization videos!

  12. Kim H says:

I store all of my inks in a photo box with a cold door on the end. Love your ideas. Thank you for sharing them with us.

  13. Kathy Krug says:

I store my inks in drawers of a craft storage unit, Different drawers for different companies.

  14. Terry T says:

Currently I store all of my inks in a drawer that is part of a large cabinet but there are not visible that way. I am thinking I might want to change to one of the systems that you showed in the videos!

  15. Patricia Nikkila says:

I actually have some of these Organize More shelves for my inks. As I keep collecting more brands, I find I can always use More. They’re great and easy to hang. I also put labels at the top for each brand name. What a great gift! Thanks.

  16. Mary says:

I have really been getting into trying to get organized. I bought a bunch of pieces from Michaels a year or so ago and some just don’t seem to be working for me. I get more use out of my bookcase! I am in a small apartment and have very limited space. Actually, my crafting and numerous machines have taken over my dining room! Your organization videos are awesome! Honestly, I have inks everywhere…..in drawers stacked, Tim Holts distress paints on metal spice racks, inks stacked on my floor and plastic container, reinkers in a drawer, Ugh! I just recently purchased die and pigment inks because most of my inks were Distress Inks, paints and stains. By the way, your video on inks helped me tremendously as well! I now understand why some inks were not working with my stamps : ) I just purchased the Brother PD200 and adapter for labeling…….love it so far. Keep these helpful videos coming!! And, thanks to you and Organize More for the discount code on the ink storage units!

  17. Martine Brisson says:

I store my ink pads partly in two Stampin’up towers like in the video, but the ones I need the most are next to my desk in a drawer. It’s fine for now. Although, I like the Idea of the dot of color…Easier to find what we need! Thanks for sharing…

  18. Wendy says:

I store my inks in a drawer. Not an ideal system unless you like looking through the stack every time you want to stamp. Lol!

  19. Grace B. says:

Does it ever overwhelm you to have so many supplies? Sometimes having too many choices overwhelms me. How do you choose?

  20. Shelley Shoreland says:

As I keep adding supplies to my craft room, I am constantly looking for a better way to organize. My husband made my ink storage out of foam board, but now it is full and ink pads are going everywhere again. I like the stamp carousel.

  21. Dale Kummerle says:

i have the IKEA Alex drawer, where I store my stamps and ink pads. I have outgrown it, though, and started to look for other option for organization and storage. I am so thankful to have found your videos and blog! Thanks,

  22. PenelopeC says:

Right now all of my ink pads are stacked on top of one another on a shelf. It isn’t ideal but it is working. I would love a chance to change that.

  23. kimberly says:

Ok..everything is shoved in a drawer…one on top of the other…have to riffle through it every time…would be nice to see everything at a glance..lovely

  24. Andrea D says:

I store my Distress ink pads in a Ikea CD Rack.
My other ink pads ( for example HA shadow inks, StazOn,….) are in a drawer.
Thank you very much for the chance to win this givwaway.

  25. Tammy Whitley says:

I for one have tried so many different types of ink storage. Currently I have my inks in a plastic box and a make shift ink holder on the wall. I love that we have the chance to win a GC from Organize More!!!! Oh the possibilites. I am tickled to have this opprtunity to win. Thank you Jennifer sand thanks to Organize More!!!

  26. Samantha Coleman says:

Currently all my ink pads are in cardboard boxes . I really like both of the solutions you have found. I know that my craft room is in need of a make over. I have also looked at StampNStorage but I wasn’t sure about them because no one I know has used them. Thanks again for all your wonderful videos, I find myself looking at my inbox every day for new videos from you.

  27. Debbie Myers says:

I use a couple ways to store my inks. Drawers, tins and plastic containers

  28. Jane says:

Love the ink pad organizer! Right now all my stamp pads are in a drawer that I need to rummage thru to find the right color…I really could use the Organize More storage unit! Thanks for the opportunity to win one!!

  29. Ruby C says:

I just checked out the Organize More site and they have some wonderful storage solutions for inks, markers even punches. One lucky winner is going to have some fun shopping there! Thanks for the chance to win and the great organizing tips.

  30. Yanis Tanjaya says:

My storage ink is the ink caddy from Stampin Up. I love them because it is saving space. Also, I can put the ink pad at the slot and put the match ink refill on the top. So it is a making it not cluttered. Hopefully I win the giveaway, because I have more than 48 ink pads. =D

  31. carole lovill says:

I store my SU inks in a very old SU carousel and my new SU are on a shelf beside my desk…..would Love the ink solution you use. Thank you for a chance to win!
    Carole Lovill

  32. Aubri says:

I currently have all my stamps in an plastic fridge container on my craft desk. It is overrun with inks at this point. I definitely need a new storage solution.

  33. Kassi Ruth says:

Ohhh how I need this. Right now my inks are stored in photo boxes, scrapbook on the go container, and other places. I have been pricing solutions to use so I can have them in one place, however money and the fact that I need storage for my teeny tiny section of a crafting corner. Right now the front living and dining room look like a bomb has gone off

  34. Katie S says:

I have my inks stacked in photo storage boxes. The Organize More storage looks amazing! Thanks for sharing these ideas and for the chance to win!

  35. Eve says:

I store them in clear plastic containers and clear plastic drawers. Found ones with shorter heights and can usually put 2 ink pads in stacks. It would’ve been better if I can find those more shallow so that I can put 1 ink and easy to find. I try to stack two ink pads in very similar colors 🙂

  36. Terrie says:

These are great organization tips! I don’t have very many ink pads right now, so they are just stored in a box. Thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  37. Kilcha says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Organize More stamp pad holder….and have now grown out of it and need a 2nd one (to go with the one that is at max capacity and the coordinating ribbon holder). I have PTI inks in a rolling cart drawer, and right now a pile of SSS and Hero Ombre pads waiting for their new home. 🙂

  38. TracyM says:

Thanks for your storage video! I store my inks in the Stampin Up caddy and the rest of my inks are in Fridge Binz containers.

  39. Cristina says:

I buy all the mini ink cubes and store them in the Tim Holtz box.

  40. Leanne says:

I have the metal boxes for the small cube inks, distress and the new SSS inks. For the larger pads I have them stacked up in a drawer so I have to pull them all out every time to find the color I need. 🙁
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  41. Wow your ink storage is incredible. I wished I knew about Organize More before I bought mine. I’m storing my ink pads in PortaInk cases by Best Craft Organizer. Thanks for all awesome videos and inspiration, Jennifer!!

  42. Dee says:

Getting my craft room organized is a big priotity for me this summer…. and the gift certificate would be Awesome! Please, O’mighty random picker, pick me!

  43. megan mcdonald says:

my are kept in boxes under my desk

  44. Carolyn says:

I am organized in my own way. I have the majority of my inks in a large drawer, organized by company. I don’t have nearly so many as you do, but right now this is working for me. Plus, I don’t have the interior cabinet space or the wall space to handle the organizers you use. I did make the color swatch book that you suggested, and I love it!!!! Thanks.

  45. Maureen Loeswick says:

I haven’t unpacked my supplies since we moved to a “new” house. This info will be great to use as my supplies get unpacked. I love being organized; knowing where everything is and a specific spot to return it to keeps my creative juices flowing….

  46. Cherie Schnautz says:

I have a wood, wall mounted system that my husband made for me but I have out grown it and have dozens of ink ads randomly stacked on my work surface. I really need one of their ink organizers. Thank you for offering the give away.

  47. nikki foraker says:

I store mine in a 80 cubbie organize more unit…that I have WAY outgrown! LOL. I blame SSS for all the awesome inks! 😀 Thanks for the chance to win…and thanks for all your hard work!

  48. Cynthia Clark says:

I have a Stampin’ Up ink storage caddy. I’ve outgrown it though. I have my extras just stacked one on another. After 50 years of crafting, I am finally working on my first craft room. No more corner of the dining room. The Stampin’ Up organizer is great, but takes up a lot of space on my desk. I am going to switch to the Organize More units when I get moved in. Thanks for the chance to win!

  49. Teresa says:

I store my stampin up inks (in colors) in the stampin up racks. I store the rest of them in a wooden organizer rack that my husband built, which also holds the re-inkers. My distress inks are stored in drawers. I would love to try these organizers. I love all of your organization videos. I did use your ink swatch book idea, that is really helpful since i have a small space & my inks are not all stored together. Thanks for the chance to win, again love your videos, thanks for sharing.

  50. Deborah H. says:

My inks are stored in a plastic container. It’s hard to use so I would love to get an ink organizer.
