Video: Ink Organization + Storage + DISCOUNT CODES + GIVEAWAY

Hi there. Today’s video is an update on my ink organization and storage.

I’ve shared many ink videos in the past, but I’ve added a few things to my system and wanted to share.

COLOR CODING

First, let’s talk about color identification. There are a few things I found helpful:

  • Ink Swatch Book – I find this essential when creating. It saves me so much time in matching inks and creating color combos. I have a free download of the swatches HERE, along with a video on how to create your own.
  • Brother Label Maker – I print out a label for each side of my ink pads. I like that the labels are durable and hold up nicely over time. (Many of the ones you print on your computer get messy quickly and fall off.)
  • Ink Dots – This is something I’ve recently started doing and I really find it helpful to see the true color of the ink pad at first glance. I stamp the color on top of two dots sandwiched together and adhere it next to the label. I encourage you to get your kids involved in helping. (A big shout out to Colin and my friend/right-hand-stamper Heather for helping me create all these dots!)

Note: I don’t think it is necessary to do all three of the systems above. It just depends on how many inks you have, how you work, etc. Maybe one would do the trick for you. I find all three helpful since I have a lot of inks for my job. (By the way, it is completely unnecessary to own as many inks as I do. This is my job and that is the only reason I have so many. Inks are like shoes – we all need and want something different, so you just need to pick what suites you. I show lots of inks in my videos to help you pick.)

INK STORAGE

I have a few ways I store my inks:

  • Organize More – I am a huge fan of Organize More… both the people and the products. I have several of their ink units in my craft room and cannot recommend them enough. They are amazing. You can get a closer look at these storage units in THIS video.

The kind people at Organize More are offering a 10% off code for my readers. Just use the code “MCGUIRE715” now thru 7/25/15. (And see below for a big giveaway!)

  • Stampin’ Up Ink Caddy – This option is great if you have a small desktop space for ink storage. I’ve placed a couple of these in a deep cabinet and have been happy with them. I like that each unit holds 48 ink pads and swivels for easy access. There is also a storage area on top to hold re-inkers.

If you’d like to get one of these caddies, just click HERE to shop with my friend Lydia Fiedler. If you use hostess code FEBAUNEW (enter this after clicking to view your shopping bag) you will go into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to her store. Lydia is awesome. If there was a unicorn made out of glitter it couldn’t be more awesome than she is. 😉

Here is one of my Organize More units. It is just a thing of beauty…

And here is a look at how the inks fit into the Stampin’ Up Caddy. I do like how this baby spins around easily…

My inks are currently stored in a plastic container from the Dollar Store. Upgrading to these storage systems is a dream of mine for one day!

  2. Linda Schade says:

“Organize?” if organize means they’re all within 2 feet of each other, on the same shelving unit, then I definitely organize my ink pads . . . I have about 30 pads now after being gifted some Stampin Up pads, and they are just stacked in various cubbies in a shelving unit. would love to be truly organized! thanks for the opportunity!

  3. Lee says:

I am a Close to my Heart rep and I have 2 stands that hold 15 ink pads each plus, room for re-inkers on top. Still am running out of room. I keep my Stampin Up stamps in a small cardboard box that is just wide enough to hold them. I have been told that CTMH ink pads don’t fit in the Stampin Up containers. Would love to be more organized in a small space, or a large one for that matter.

  4. holly Klingensmith says:

I have been storing my inks in a plastic tote. I always end up pulling out every color just to get to the one i want on the bottom.

  5. Gretchan McDermond says:

My SU! ink pads are in the storage caddy but shamefully I admit my SSS and MFT ink pads are stacked on their side. I would love the opportunity find a better storage solution for them. Thank Jennifer and Organized More!

  6. tanya says:

I am the least organized person on the planet — my inks live in gallon size ziploc bags! My stamps are in 2 drawers and 3 see-through zip cosmetic cases. 🙁 I need to watch all your videos.

  7. Regan says:

Sadly my inks are in a plastic shoe box, however I did create ink swatches so now I at least know what I have when I go digging.

  8. Steffi Broocks says:

I store nearly all of my inkpads in old cassette holders, and it works fine for me so far.

  9. darlenemcg says:

I love your idea with the coin pages, I’ve got the supplies and currently stamping my cardstock…now if I could store all my ink together hmmmm

  11. Beth K says:

I love how nice your stamps look but so far haven’t been able to afford anything like you have. SO I have been forced to get creative with my ink pad storage. I found a wooden box at a garage sale. It is about 6 inches tall and about 2 feet long. It doesn’t have little cubby holes but I still can stack my stack my inks in it and read the color labels.Plus I have mostly stampin up inks so they do stack on one another without them slilding around too much.

  12. Alie T. says:

I store my inks in a small drawer, but would love to upgrade to a better system sometime soon.

  13. Judith says:

I store my inks in a drawer of my IKEA Alex unit. I really think it would be better to have them out where I can see them and I’m sure I would use them more. I love your organization videos and they have given me so many great ideas!

  14. Muneca says:

My inks are stored in a top drawer of my desk. Not the most efficient way to find what I need but at least they are close!

  15. Johanna says:

I use an organize more ink holder. I have the pro! I love it but I need to make dots and put names on like you have done. Otherwise I have to pull each one out slightly. My 12 year old daughter will be awesome for this

  16. Marcia Hill says:

I currently use a SU! ink holder for the inks I use the most, but would LOVE to get the OM organizer that holds 80 pads so I can get some of the pads I use less out where I can see them…maybe then I would use them more??? Thanks so much for all the tips and the chance to win…appreciate it Jennifer!! :0)

  17. Pam Droll says:

I have the SU ink holder but have outgrown it. Some of my older ink pads are just in a plastic bin–which means I rarely think of them. I love your blog. I have watched and re-watched many of your videos. Thanks so much!

  18. Katie Kinde says:

I currently store my inks (SU!) in the boxes they came in. We recently moved into a new house and I’m looking forward to creating my craft room!

  19. Katrina says:

Mine are in a photo box (the shoeboxes you get at hobby lobby) in my craft room closet. Not very efficient!!! 🙂

  20. Leslie says:

Love to be organized. It just ups the creativity!
    Thanks

  21. Kimberly J. says:

Awesome giveaway!! My hubby made an ink pad holder out of foam board for me. Its perfect and holds all my inks. Unfortunately, I am running out of room though.

  22. Lois says:

Would love to be so organized. Thanks for the hints.

  23. Beth Holt says:

My ink pads are stored in baskets right now. Would love one of those storage units!

  24. I actually use stampnstorage for my inks.

  25. glorianne lopez says:

I store my inks in plastic drawers i already had to make use of them instead of re-buying.

  26. Jill Raines says:

I use ink minis and store them in clear plastic sticker sheet storage boxes. Since I don’t have a dedicated crafting area yet everything has to be easy to get out and put away again and these are ideal for that as I can clearly see what I need.

  27. Monica Keenan says:

I wish I could be as organized as you are! My inks are just stacked up in a plastic IRIS storage bin! LOL!

  28. Rita says:

I don’t have a lot of non-Stampin’ Up! inks yet, so mine are in one of the Fridge Binz containers. I do need to get something soon for those and my distress ink pads. I just need to decide on a new company to go with! Lawn Fawn might be it. 🙂

  29. Stacy Nelson says:

I store my Close To My Heart inks in a spinning organizer that recently became unavailable.

  30. HeatherR says:

I used a recollection drawer organizer but have limited space for all my inks

  31. Kelly B. says:

    Love this organization for inks!

  32. Diana Document says:

I store mine in a plastic pull drawer. There are so many out there that I don’t know which to buy as I have a budget. I have to be really picky about purchasing.

  33. Cindy says:

I don’t have a lot of inks right now so they are stored in a wire mesh bin, but I want to come up with a better solution as I acquire more. Maybe the Organize More solution?!

  34. Brenna says:

Very Nice! Well How I store my inks is as compactly as possible. I did get in the past at our scrapbook expo the black plastic stamp holders that mount on the wall or join together from that popular company. But with limited wall space and a few more stamps than anticipated and since I am in the garage in the corner closest to the house door, I use the media stix from an office supply store… they are a little frustrating they don’t hold Great if a pad gets bumped… I will live. I did complete my swatch book though! Space is of the essence for me. Thank You.

  35. I make my own containers out of cardboard, them “dress them up” with printed PVC stickers, I work as a graphic designer in a printing house, so these stickers come anywhere from cheep to free for me 🙂 Since I make them on my own, it is simply a box with no lid on the top, with the right size. On the sides of the box I have printed the color and the name of the stamp. It gets messed up if someone touches my stuff… like my 4 old boy.. 🙂

  36. Angie C. says:

I store my SU! inks in the SU! storage caddie, however when new colors come out, I take the retired colors out and put them in a plastic shoe box. For my distress inks and others, I made a foam board organizer from directions I found on a website, I have to many so it can’t hold all of them so I have ink pads stored in clear containers, in drawers, etc. It’s hard for me to keep track of what I have and remember where they are – “out of site, out of mind” so to speak.

  37. Christine Winiecki says:

I have a clear acrylic ink pad storage unit I bought a long time ago for my Stampin Up ink pads. It holds 60 ink pads. It sits on my craft table against the wall. That way the ink pads are within reach when I am crafting.

  38. Debs says:

I use refrigerator bins in a drawer with the inks labeled and lying on their sides, but once I pull a few out the rest fall over, so I need a better method…and you have given me great ideas. I do wish someone would make an ink caddie from refrigerator bin plastic…lightweight is better. Thank you!

  39. MaryannD says:

Love your ink swatch book. I store my inks in a small tower of drawers, I also am running out of room. Overflow (less used inks) are currently stored in clear shoe boxes.

  40. Jo says:

Wow I need you to come and get me organized!!! LOL …. I love your storage racks from Organize More! That is what I need because just like you, I have so many inks from over 5 companies!!! Right now, my inks are stored away in an old dresser! Sad part is, if I cannot see them, I don’t use them and they are just sitting there! I would love to win this because I sure need a new storage system for my inks! Thanks Jennifer!
    Hugs,

  41. Eva says:

My inks are just stored in a shelf, I don’t have that many… 🙂

  42. Allison G. says:

My inks are stored in plastic drawers of a rolling cart … well most of them

  43. Liana S. says:

My inks are stored in a rotating desktop CD holder. I made little shelves for it to put my inks in. It’s my favorite piece in my scrap corner right now. I need to make another one, or get a unit from Organize More. They look like wonderful pieces.

  44. Meghan says:

I store my inks in an old cassette tape wall storage unit. I have outgrown it, however, and will soon need to find another bigger system. These units look amazing!

  45. Anita says:

I store them in the Alex drawers but would love a organize more unit!

  46. Lagene says:

I really need help at organizing my craft room! I’d love to win a shopping spree to organize more!

  47. Yvette Farrel says:

I just keep my inks in a drawer that is easy to access. This drawer does make it hard to find the right color. ☺️

  48. Dawn G says:

I store mine in a storage piece on my desk from Stamp-n-Storage. Best organizational purchase I ever made.

  49. I hope I didn’t already comment! I thought I did but can’t find it.. Anyway, I store my inks everywhere, mostly on shelves, usually upside down for my Distress Inks cuz I heard that way the ink stays more to the top of the pad itself. I am horrible at organizing 🙁

  50. Janet Zambotti says:

I have tried to stay as organized as possible with my ink pads. I have one Stampin’ Up carousel, but over the past year, I’ve added so many new colors to my collection that they are haphazardly all bore my desk. Being a self-proclaimed perfectionist, I disappoint myself with how my stamping desk looks. More storage is much-needed!
