Video: Heat Shrink Foam + New Inks + Blog Hop + Giveaway!

Hello and welcome! Today’s video shares how to heat shrink craft foam… and also shows an up close look at the new Simon Says Stamp inks.

I use craft foam a lot on my cards to add dimension (see a video HERE), but did you know that you can shrink it with your heat gun? That’s what I did to create the embellishments on these cards.

I die cut the new Simon Says Stamp hello die from white fun foam. After adding some heat with my heat gun, I have smaller die cuts! A great way to stretch your dies for a new look and size.

I also colored the foam embellishments with Simon Says Stamp dye inks. If you ink the foam before shrinking, the color will change and get a bit darker. If you ink after you do the shrinking, you will get a true color. (Either way, you need to heat set the color so it doesn’t rub off.) It’s nice because you can get a variety of colors from one ink pad!

Many people have asked about the smell of the foam as you shrink it. I don’t notice much of a smell with this particular craft foam. Also, this is a tiny piece, so I had no problems.

I finished off the cards with small fun foam hearts. I applied color to the foam hearts but found the color to be too dark, so I simply stamped them off on to a piece of scratch paper to achieve a lighter color. (I like that you can also die cut your fun foam to create stamps!)

Oh – and by the way – I used a fun scallop Echo Park embossing folder on the cards… and an older (but favorite) sentiment stamp set from Simon.
