I really enjoy stamping a bunch of images and then taking them (along with markers and scissors) on the go. This is a great way to make the best use of my time. Today I used some of those on-the-go-colored-images to create surprise spinner cards.

I got carried away with these cards! I stamped a bunch of adorable Clearly Besotted images and went to town. Clearly Besotted has some of easiest-to-color images in any theme you can imagine. Also, there are many images in a set that can be used together for fun scenes or for simple cards. (I used the Trouble in a Tutu, You’re Purrfect, Cheering for You, Best Friends, Some Birdie Loves You, Cool Dude, Jump for Joy, and Out of This World stamp sets.)

Be sure to watch the video to see all the examples I created. Each card has a simple stamped panel on the front… colored with various colors of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens. (I really like the shimmer of these pens. They are fun to take on the go because you can blend them and get watercolor-like coloring. I will have a color chart for you soon!)

In addition to the cheerleading pandas, I also really like the dancing hippos from the new Clearly Besotted Trouble in a Tutu stamp set. Isn’t she cute?

When you open it up, a ballerina pops up and spins. I created this spinning element by stamping, coloring, and cutting two images and gluing them back-to-back with string between. The string is stretched from the front of the card to the back of the card. So easy! However, to have the two images to put back-to-back, the images need to be mirror images of each other. Therefore I did a mirror stamping technique to get the two hippos. But keep in mind – if an image is symmetrical (like the panda above), you don’t need to do mirror stamping – just stamp it twice.

And for all my kitty-loving friends…

The Clearly Besotted You’re Purrfect Stamp Set is so cute! And this jumping/spinning kitten even warms the heart of this dog-lover. 🙂

Again, be sure to watch the whole video to see all the card examples I created. These are addictive! Oh – and HERE is another video with a similar spinning feature.

Hi Jennifer!! Such a fun card!! I love spinner cards:) I am going to have to get some of the shimmer pens!! The look so pretty!!

  3. jlt301 says:

I love to color on the go. Whenever I visit my adult children out of state, I always take a coloring kit with me.

  4. Karen says:

You were my introduction to card making and now I color where ever I go. I keep pens and markers close by.

I find it’s a distraction and fun with my grandchildren and some of my older friends find it relaxing. I tear pages from my coloring books whenever I visit someone. Then I can leave some behind for them.

  5. Nancy D. says:

I do like to color on the go and try to always remember to plan ahead so that I can.

  6. smlittler says:

Oh gosh, these cards are the cutest!! I’m going to make spinner cards for my twin nieces’ b-days coming up! I think you are too hard on yourself as well. The video was great as usual! LOVE those sparkle pens.

  7. Caro A says:

every time I go out, I always take away with me some notebook and some markers or colored pens (glitter pens are my favorites at the moment). sometimes I make my own mandalas but in general I just doodle. now that I’ve started buying stamps sets to make cards, I’ll take those to color instead. even in the darkest situation, coloring makes me happy!

  8. Amy B. says:

I used to color on the go when my kids were home at all of their activities. After this awesome hop, I’m starting again! (so is my daughter, now entering grad school, for much needed stress relief!)

  9. Jane Sirak says:

What a great card technique Jennifer. When something is incredibly cool and easy too that’s a homerun in my book. I learned more from watching your videos than anyone else’s . I enjoy them all but as far as learning it might be a dead tie between you and Gina K you both really know how to instruct on video. Well this is such a fun challenge. I love to color, if you ask me five years ago I would’ve laughed. I do color on the go sometimes my favorite time to color is waiting in a Dr. Office. I fill one of those Pencil bags with some markers and some water brushes and maybe some peerless papers and some stamps I had already done and take it with me to sit in the doctors office and wait patiently and happily.

  10. Donna Phelan says:

Your sweet interactive cards are super cute! I also love the shimmer! I never color on the go, I’m a more stay in my craft room and color kind of gal…..although my work is super busy right now and I haven’t made a card in over a week….Oh The Horror! 🙂 Have a happy day!

  11. Connie=Rae says:

Yes Jennifer I do color, I love the adult coloring in books, as well as stamping of course. I love the colors you use in your video’s. I use Copic markers and inks to color. I adore the bright stunning colors that are now available in ink and other mediums, we are so lucky that crafting has evolved to incorporate so many choices, and huge ranges of color. Funny because I always wear black, I love color but not on me…Cheers Connie Rae.

  12. Deborah B says:

A great idea to have images stamped to colour on the go. Thanks for sharing these cute cards.

  13. Joan Van Leeuwen says:

Enjoyed your video on spinner cards and thinking “on the go”

  14. BentheDK says:

The most “on the go” that I color – as I just did today – is doing watercolor in my sofa instead of at my desk :-[

  15. Linda H says:

Taking a page from your book and Kathy’s, I have a pouch packed with images to be colored with different mediums depending on my mood. They are packed ready to go anytime I am waiting for my boys or on a road trip. Thanks for sharing a cute card. I love those shimmer markers!

  16. Daryl Carbone says:

I’ve tried coloring on the train-surprised it was calm enough ride to allow it!

  17. Laura says:

No, I’ve never done it. With my kids out of school, I’m not on the go as much. (I used to take my knitting and crocheting on the go! That was before carding! 🙂

  18. Tanja Gross says:

No I don’t color on the go. Kids are grown ups so I don’t “go” as much anymore. Do most my coloring at home or across the street with my neighbor.

  19. Barbara M says:

No, I am not on the go as much as I used to be. And with gardening season in full swing I barely have time to color at all!

  20. Annie Solomon says:

Enjoyed learning the mirror technique. Will have to give that a try.

  21. Maureen Reiss says:

These are ADORABLE!!!!! Love all the new Clearly Besotted stamps!!!!

  22. AnnB says:

Oh these cards are soo cute Jennifer! Thanks so much for showing us how to make those little cuties spin,I Must try this.Yes I’m always colouring on the go and even when I’m not in card-making mode,so when my mojo returns I’m all set!

  23. Di W says:

I frequently color “on-the-go”. If I had time and didn’t have coloring supplies with me, I’d be very upset with myself!

  24. I’ve taken images with me to colour before. But since I use a lot of patterned paper and match my images to the paper, it wasn’t as successful as I had hoped because I tend to make my decisions last minute instead of in advance.

I think I might put a label die cut with my ‘handmade by’ stamp on the back or even a heart die cut. Saves paper that way!

  25. Alecia Bowers says:

Oh my gosh!! your cards are adorable… as always!! I keep trying to mirror image stamp but I have not been successful yet! Maybe I need to try that stamp set!
I am not on the go much any more! My kids used to play soccer and we were always on the go. But now they surf and kitesurf. Crafting + Sand is not too fun!

  26. Anne Sturgeon says:

Great cards Jennifer. I can’t decide which of these cuties is my favorite. Yes I do color on the go when my husband and I travel to our winter destinations. This gives me lots of supplies for while I am away from home. Love it. Thanks for sharing and I’m off to hop!

  27. Paula Wolfe says:

I love your video so much that I’ve already watched it over and over. I also have recently started stamping a bunch of images so that I can color wherever I go. I always find your posts so inspiring.

  28. Tricia says:

I’ve taken items on the go while camping in our airstream. Love it!

  29. Tine Bødker says:

No I have never colored on the go, but you make it seem so easy and fun, so I think I will try it sometime 😉
Fun spinner cards, and love all those sweet stamps.

  30. stephanie B. says:

yes, in former times i often did that, going outside, in the garden , the riverside, or the countryside to paint animals, like horses, cows, goats, sheeps.. i loved to do that!

  31. Cindy Aguirre says:

Fun cards! Yes I color on the go. I color at work when I have some time in between phone calls and when we go camping .

  32. Aileen Ryan says:

Absolutely love these spinner cards, so cute. Could see the grandkids really liking these. I colour on the go all the time. Caring for both parents who have dementia and sharing the caring with my sister. They live in Canberra and I live in Sydney so that means every second week I go stay with them. The easiest part of my card making is the colouring as I can take that with me and do it at any time. whether its pencils, copics or painting I have set ups for each to come with me with folders full of images to colour. Love it

  33. Alison says:

Great cards and great video!! Thanks for the chance to win!!

  34. Maggie F says:

Love the spinner element to these cards! As for coloring on the go, I’ve been trying to do that lately since crafting on the go tends to be a no-no (too many supplies needed), so yeah, between my Peerless watercolors and some Copics with pre-stamped images and scissors, I can color all day!

  35. Debbie Barba says:

Dont have the opportunity to color on the go much….but hope to soon upon retirement. Love these adorable cards Jennifer….as always ….thanks for sharing!

  36. Alice H says:

I love to color on the go. I keep a set of “extra” markers in a pouch so I can take them where ever I have time in between errands!

  37. THERESA HOUCK says:

I love these cards especially the hippo and pandas. I have never colored on the go but I may try it soon.

  38. Laurie VanDerLinden says:

When my son was younger I colored on the go often. I don’t tend to do it regularly now but do it when I travel since my husband likes to go to sleep earlier than I. Cute spinner cards!

  39. Pat McCleary says:

Love these little spinners. No, I don’t color. It’s not that I don’t like it, rather I don’t do it well. Shadows, blending, lighter, darker- it’s all beyond me. Thanks for a chance to win & a dose of fun.

  40. Joanne H says:

Oh heck yeah! It’s the only way I get stuff done. My husband is having physical therapy and dr. Appointments. I’ve been the taxi driver.
I bring a clipboard, some pencils and images. I get a lot done in a hour or two waiting for appointments to be over!

  41. Vikki H says:

Yes, I do take colored pencils and sometimes Distress Ink markers with me. Thanks.

  42. Julie Wexler says:

I love these stamps and the spinner idea- so cute! I do color on the go- in fact, yesterday and today! Our power was out 2 1/2 days from storms in the area. Going thru crafting withdrawal during the dark-house days, I quickly stamped several pieces with the aid of my Misti and a small battery light, packed up my zigs, water cups, and kuretake paints to head to the nearest coffeehouse…where I was able to color, charge devices, AND drink coffee to my heart’s content! Best power outage ever!

  43. John K says:

so fun! those are very cute, and seem pretty easy to do actually! thanks for sharing and for the chance to win!

  44. Jennifer, these are adorable! Love the spinning element and how cute your images are. I really want to try this technique. I hope I can get the mirror images right. Thanks so much for your fun videos. I am always learning something new!

  45. EK Gorman says:

I take colored pencils on the go. They have a nice leather pouch and are the perfect traveling companion.

  46. Lindsey-NY says:

I didn’t realize one could blend the sparkle markers. thanks for a great tip and lots of cute card ideas .

  47. Gwen says:

I do color on the go. Sometimes I ride along on an errand with my husband and color while waiting in the car. Super cute cards!

  48. Michele says:

I am getting ready to go on vacation and I plan on taking Christmas stamps to color. Thanks for the tips for creating the spinner cards.

  49. Kathy Mc says:

My coloring-on-the-go consists of gathering the needed supplies from my stamp room upstairs to my recliner downstairs and then coloring stamped images using my Zigs and a water brush. Love your adorable series of cards, Jennifer.

  50. Andrea S says:

These cards are super fun! I have colored “on the go” a few times.
