Hi! I am back again with some fun sparkle coloring and surprise spinner cards. I am also participating in The 30 Day Coloring Challenge – more info on that below.

I really enjoy stamping a bunch of images and then taking them (along with markers and scissors) on the go. This is a great way to make the best use of my time. Today I used some of those on-the-go-colored-images to create surprise spinner cards.

I got carried away with these cards! I stamped a bunch of adorable Clearly Besotted images and went to town. Clearly Besotted has some of easiest-to-color images in any theme you can imagine. Also, there are many images in a set that can be used together for fun scenes or for simple cards. (I used the Trouble in a Tutu, You’re Purrfect, Cheering for You, Best Friends, Some Birdie Loves You, Cool Dude, Jump for Joy, and Out of This World stamp sets.)

Be sure to watch the video to see all the examples I created. Each card has a simple stamped panel on the front… colored with various colors of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens. (I really like the shimmer of these pens. They are fun to take on the go because you can blend them and get watercolor-like coloring. I will have a color chart for you soon!)

In addition to the cheerleading pandas, I also really like the dancing hippos from the new Clearly Besotted Trouble in a Tutu stamp set. Isn’t she cute?

When you open it up, a ballerina pops up and spins. I created this spinning element by stamping, coloring, and cutting two images and gluing them back-to-back with string between. The string is stretched from the front of the card to the back of the card. So easy! However, to have the two images to put back-to-back, the images need to be mirror images of each other. Therefore I did a mirror stamping technique to get the two hippos. But keep in mind – if an image is symmetrical (like the panda above), you don’t need to do mirror stamping – just stamp it twice.

And for all my kitty-loving friends…

The Clearly Besotted You’re Purrfect Stamp Set is so cute! And this jumping/spinning kitten even warms the heart of this dog-lover. 🙂

Again, be sure to watch the whole video to see all the card examples I created. These are addictive! Oh – and HERE is another video with a similar spinning feature.

  1. This spinner idea is so cute, Jennifer! Yes, I color on the go – if you mean on vacation. I always pack some pre-stamped images and either my copics or my water colors. It depends on whether my grandchildren are going to be there. Copics are easier for them to manage and they all have as much fun as I do!

You have inspired me to do this. I “paint” on the go. I just started stamping watercolor sheets of flowers and fruit. I take my Peerless watercolor booklet I put together and water brushes. A packet of papertowels or babywipes and “I’m good to go””. Love that phrase.

  3. Vivian Rovsek says:

This is such a great idea, you have inspired me to create some for my grandchildren. Thank you so much!

  4. Vivian Rovsek says:

oops I forgot to tell you that I do color on the go, espically when I travel to see my grandchildren, they love to see what I’ve colored and then we always have some crafty time together.

  5. Jill H. says:

I just got back from our vacation in Northern Ontario and I had several boxes and bags full of supplies. I mainly used my new Tombow watercolor markers, but I brought along Peerless watercolors in case I went fishing with my husband (I don’t fish), and my sister-in-law gave me a Mandala coloring book and Crayola colored pencils which are surprisingly soft and rich in color!

  6. Kim says:

I never gave coloring on the go a thought, but it is such a great idea I think I’m going to try it on for size! I do a lot of sitting and waiting, so this would be a great, productive way to pass the time. Thanks for making it look so doable!

And I thought your video was just fine! If there was any sort of problem with it, I certainly didn’t see it! Why is it we are always so critical of ourselves, LOL!

    Have a wonderful day!

  7. gail says:

Hello Jennifer, I just want to say that I do enjoy your technique videos. I really like that 80% is technique and the last few minutes is about pulling the card together.

  8. Laura says:

These spinning cards are really cute. The spinning adds something extra but doesn’t seem as intimidating as a window.

  9. Laurie F says:

Your cards are so cute!! I love the colors you used and the spinner aspect. I have a soft spot for 3d elements in cards LOVE IT!! Great cards!!

  10. Kathleen B. says:

I often color on the go while riding in the car. I usually make a palette on an acrylic block using ink colors, then use a water pen to apply the color to images I’ve previously stamped at home. Coloring in the car makes the trip much more fun!!

  11. Erica Ambrose says:

Very nice! Love this coloring challenge!

  12. Leigh Penner says:

Oh, these are so sweet and fun, Jennifer!
You know, I don’t colour on the go, but I was just thinking that maybe I should do this today and see if I can colour at the beach while my kids have swimming lessons this afternoon….

  13. Tara Prince says:

I don’t color on the go right now but I plan to in the future. Great tips!!

  14. Stephanie W says:

Sometimes I do color on the go. Less now that the kiddos have flown the coop but still do sometimes. When I worked a job that had a 60 min. lunch hour, I frequently took supplies with me to color at lunchtime.

  15. carebearcdr says:

These cards are so adorable. I love the concept. I haven’t ever colored on the go, but I may try it. The biggest challenge for me will be making sure I have all my supplies. I find that when I craft away from home I always forget something I need.

  16. Cyndi Morris says:

Love this idea. The glimmer pens are definitely going on my wish list. I don’t color on the go, mainly because I don’t “go” very often. I do however enjoy coloring in front of the TV!

  17. Irene Garcia says:

    Jennifer,

Your video was perfect. We are all our worst critics! I LOVE these spinner cards, and that mirror technique is amazing!! I put notes in my daughter’s lunch for school every day, so I know I’ll be making some little mini spinner note cards for this upcoming school year!!! I have so many adorable stamp sets with critters that I use for that, so now that I know the mirror image technique, I have even more options! I also sit in the car every day when I pick my daughter up on the car line! I usually watch your videos while I wait..lol…and I do have some adult coloring books or I crochet. I’ll be adding some stamp coloring to my list!
    Thanks so much!

I haven’t colored on the go however I was looking at the zipper pockets that you use to take your coloring along with you and they look fantastic. I also have been looking at some of the watercolor mediums that you use and look forward to trying some of those out. Thank you for sharing the spinner cards. I will be making a few of these this weekend!

  19. Lnevins18 says:

I am always so excited to see your videos! You give me hope that I can color!!!

  20. Amy Cooley says:

Cute interactive card! No, I’m not an on-the-go coloring person.

  21. HI Jennifer,

What a great video and such fun cards! I have to try this! I can’t figure out what you apologized for though. 😉 Wish my videos were like this one!

  22. Greta H says:

I’m not much of a colorer & don’t “color on the go” but I’m thinking of taking some images with me next camping trip. Now that I have Zigs I’m doing a bit of coloring & they’d be easy to take along in the trailer. Your cards are darling!

  23. Ronda says:

I have not been coloring on the go but it sounds like a great idea! Great video!

  24. Rachel Vass says:

What a great idea, those spinner cards look so clever and yet actually simpler than I thought. Thanks for the chance to take one of your great classes.

  25. Jessica Hess says:

I love to color and watercolor paint on the go. Not very many supplies are necessary if I plan ahead or keep a pouch ready with supplies. :-))

  26. Holly Denghel says:

This is such a fun card. I’ve made the ones where it’s in a hole on the card front, but I like the surprise element of this.

  27. Mariana says:

I wish I colored on the go. WOudl make for fast plane rides !Maybe I will try on my next flight!

Coloring! I love this- I just got some new copics yesterday and my husband is having wisdom teeth out tomorrow… and I get to take care of him, AKA- COLOR WHILE HE SLEEPS! Thanks for sharing!

Love that fun spinner card. Those pandas are adorable. Thank you so much for sharing the technique, as always.

  32. Robin831 says:

Sadly, I don’t color on the go. I think if I found a mini coloring book and some mini markers I might give it a go, as I do love to color. I’m going to hop on over to the other blogs now and see what there is to see. Thanks for sharing your cute spinner cards.

  33. Janet Sisk says:

Sometimes I color when I am on vacation, but mostly I do it at home. My hubby likes to go, go, go ALL the time on vacation so I have learned that I shouldn’t pack too much for relaxing. LOL Thanks for a chance to win. 😀

  34. Geri S. says:

I’ve tried coloring on the go for long plane rides. But there is usually so much other distraction I don’t seem to get much done. I don’t know if I should thank you for another wonderful tip (reverse stamping) or not because I want to add the stamps to my wish list and it’s getting too long! Thanks!

  35. Teodora says:

I gotta try a spinner card!
I never color on the go… I am resident doctor working in a hospital… I can’t imagine doing it at work… and have to few other activities where I could do that. Maybe in a recovery hospital I could do that with patients 😀

  36. Marcia says:

I haven’t done it yet but stamped some images in hopes to do that this month!

  37. Carmen Lucero says:

Yes, Jennifer, I love coloring and just took a 2 week vacation with my coloring book and pencils by my side. I would love to win an on line class. Thanks for the chance!

Thanks so much Jennifer, for this fun video! Wow! So many cute cards. I am off to purchase the block stamp. Thanks so much for sharing your tips and tricks and thanks for being part of Kathy’s blog hop!

  40. hopemitchell says:

I never thought about coloring on the go – but I do always have a portable knitting project I take with me!

  47. Debi W says:

I have taken some supplies to do projects on vacation if I’m going to be staying in the same place and not moving every day or two. Haven’t as of yet set up a little travel pack to do while on the run with maybe some time to kill. Thinking about it though.
