Coloring Challenge + Surprise Spinner Card

Hi! I am back again with some fun sparkle coloring and surprise spinner cards. I am also participating in The 30 Day Coloring Challenge – more info on that below.

I really enjoy stamping a bunch of images and then taking them (along with markers and scissors) on the go. This is a great way to make the best use of my time. Today I used some of those on-the-go-colored-images to create surprise spinner cards.

I got carried away with these cards! I stamped a bunch of adorable Clearly Besotted images and went to town. Clearly Besotted has some of easiest-to-color images in any theme you can imagine. Also, there are many images in a set that can be used together for fun scenes or for simple cards. (I used the Trouble in a Tutu, You’re Purrfect, Cheering for You, Best Friends, Some Birdie Loves You, Cool Dude, Jump for Joy, and Out of This World stamp sets.)

Be sure to watch the video to see all the examples I created. Each card has a simple stamped panel on the front… colored with various colors of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens. (I really like the shimmer of these pens. They are fun to take on the go because you can blend them and get watercolor-like coloring. I will have a color chart for you soon!)

In addition to the cheerleading pandas, I also really like the dancing hippos from the new Clearly Besotted Trouble in a Tutu stamp set. Isn’t she cute?

When you open it up, a ballerina pops up and spins. I created this spinning element by stamping, coloring, and cutting two images and gluing them back-to-back with string between. The string is stretched from the front of the card to the back of the card. So easy! However, to have the two images to put back-to-back, the images need to be mirror images of each other. Therefore I did a mirror stamping technique to get the two hippos. But keep in mind – if an image is symmetrical (like the panda above), you don’t need to do mirror stamping – just stamp it twice.

And for all my kitty-loving friends…

The Clearly Besotted You’re Purrfect Stamp Set is so cute! And this jumping/spinning kitten even warms the heart of this dog-lover. 🙂

Again, be sure to watch the whole video to see all the card examples I created. These are addictive! Oh – and HERE is another video with a similar spinning feature.

Love these super cute cards and awesome video! I have tried to color on the go, meaning I plan and prep for a “to go” coloring session but I’m reluctant to get them out and color. I feel so self conscious about it. Time for me to try again, thanks!

What cute spinner cards Jennifer, love those! The hippo ballerina is my favorite, reminds me of Gloria from Madagascar. Thanks for all the lovely inspiration!

  12. Rushd Lady says:

I never win at these things, but I’m doing it because it’s part of the color challenge celebration. I have about 5 baptism cards I need to make for kids who used to be in my Sunday School class. They are going to be baptized in our local lake this Sunday, but I will be out of town for a family reunion. And yes, I color on the run. I think it was my first 30 Day Coloring Challenge, I took a clipboard, markers, and a coloring book with me to a friend’s BBQ, told them about the challenge and colored away while the rest of them watched a movie! =0) I’ve also done crafting at the family reunion. Got them all interested in heritage scrapbooking if I recall. grin!

  13. Leanne S says:

Fabulous cards! Would be delighted to win a spot for the online class.

  14. Barbara says:

The little tutu pandas are just too cute.

  15. Love your cards – you’re so great for always making multiples. 🙂
At the moment I never colour on the go, as wherever I go I’m accompanied by my now 10 month old baby – and this girl doesn’t nap much so even at home it’s hard to find time for crafting! 🙂 but since I’m starting to collect a few markers here and there – I hope I will be able to colour whist on the go in the near ebough future – surely the little lady will have hobbies I’ll have to drive her to, like sports or dancing classes or something – crafting on the go will come handy then!

  16. TracyM #6773 says:

FUN cards and FABULOUS spinner action!!!
THANK YOU for sharing your COOL & SPARKLING video Jennifer 🙂
I haven’t coloured on the go before, I usually take a little sudoku puzzle book for when I’m waiting for appointments … I will be giving it a go soon, as I have just bought myself a postcard size colouring book and set of gel pens in a sturdy carry case.

  17. Amanda H says:

I sometimes take coloring with me to do at my destination, but I often find I either over pack and am bringing too many tools or I under pack and am missing things I want to use.

  18. Oliev says:

Supercute cards and ideas, thanks for sharing!
I have never tried coloring on the go, I mostly read a book, but it sounds like a good idea:-)

  19. Mel O'Leary says:

I don’t do a lot of coloring on the go. I have a minor tremor in my hands, and conditions need to be really good for me to do a good job coloring. These images, though, are so cute they might inspire me to try it!

  20. Tatiana says:

I didn’t, but I’m going to try it the next week! Thanks for all the idea you sharing with us and a chance to win!!!

  21. eva says:

How cute!!! Thanks for the tips! I don’t color on the go, because I like to concentrate when I color and on the go I prefer to listen music or read a book. I never know if I will want the color that I just haven’t taken with me. I am sure I will, so I prefer to have all my colors with me 🙂

  22. Donna says:

I used to take things with me to color all the time. But the more products I purchased the harder it was to decide what to bring Thanks for all the tips. Love the cards!

  23. Agata says:

If I think of taking a book and pencils I can color with my daughter while we wait for her brother. Maybe I should stamp some images or make my own coloring booklet… Love your cards, my daughter found them adorable!!

  24. Monica =) says:

Such a cute spinning card! Totally love it =)
I’m about to join the 30 days of coloring challenge so I bet there will be great opportunities for some coloring on the go -a new adventure for me!

  25. Janis says:

Such cute spinners as a surprise on the inside. Just lovely. You always give the best inspiration, and I love that you love sparkly stuff. <3

I don't colour on the go much, but it is a great idea, and I think I may do it more from now on. I don't usually do it simply because it requires planning and organisation up front, but you have inspired me to do it more.

  26. tape says:

I’ve never tried but maybe I should! Cute cards.

  27. Cristina says:

    OMG! Your cards are amazing!

  30. Colleen H says:

Love the spinner cards. I really do not color on the go, I started making cards after my son was in his teen’s and no longer really into sports or other activities. So my coloring is really all done at home in my craft area. I would love to win a class, I am doing my first class July 11 the Heat Wave can not wait to have some fun!!

  39. blackwhite456 says:

No, I don’t color on the go. I need to do more coloring in general. Love your spinner cards and inspiration for the mirror stamping.

  40. Melissa B. says:

I don’t usually color on the go unless it’s my Christmas cards and already mid-December!

Gorgeous cards Jennifer! I need a card to take to a baby shower (for twins), I’m going to see if I can use this idea for my card. Thank you for the inspiration!

  41. Ninety says:

I’m always coloring. I can’t help it. Even if i just doodle.

  42. Such sweet cards, Jennifer! As a new card maker, I’ve discovered that I now want to pack some stamps and markers when I travel. I never thought that would happen! It’s fun to have some creative time , in the quiet hours, when I reach my vacation destination! As always, heartfelt thanks for your inspiration and encouragement! ♡

  43. Emily K says:

Love these cards. They are so cute. Especially love the kitty card. I usually don’t color on the go.

  44. I would love to color on the go but I am afraid to lose my stuff. I love that Hippo stamp and the way you colored it with the Spetrum Noir shimmer pens. I was going to try the clear ones but they are out of stock at SSS & EH. But I’ll wait patiently. Thanks for the tutorial. It encourages me to try mirror stamping with the Misti again. Somehow, I feel I am doing something wrong when I tried it after watching your video. But after watching this video, with you doing the mirror images perfectly, maybe practice will make it work. Thanks for the motivation!

  45. Keely K says:

I’ve never colored on the go but I do have a business trip coming up & that sounds like the perfect time to try it.

  46. Christa Stokes says:

I love your YouTube channel and I’m so happy to find your blog. The spinner cards are so stinkin cute and such a good idea.

  47. Jessica Robertson says:

My daughter loves to color all the time. We practically have a traveling art studio in the van. 🙂

  48. Angela R says:

I love to color on the go – I stamp some card paper or watercolor paper and take my Zig Clean Color Markers with me.

  49. Nicki Lundeen says:

I do not color on the go. My problem is I am so indecisive that by the time I pack up all that I think I might want to use, it would take a pack mule to carry it all!

  50. I’m not sure if this is considered on the go…but I cannot leave home for vacation without my prismacolor pencils and all of my drawing supplies. No that I have started making cards and have accumulated so many more supplies I’ve been trying to figure out how I am going to transport everything to our cabin in W.Va. I will not be happy unless I have everything with me. I’m not happy unless I’m creating! And what a wonderful place to be creative. On our desk in the middle of the woods with hummingbirds flitting around and all of the beautiful birds, butterflies, etc. It’s so full of life there.
