It seems that almost all stamp companies now have coordinating dies available for the stamp sets they sell. I have some of these coordinating die sets and I really wanted to find a way to get more out of them to make the investment worth it. And today’s technique is a great example!

After stamping the Avery Elle Monsters Stamps on a white die cut banner and coloring them with Copic Markers, I applied masks cut with the coordinating dies. (Boy, does using the dies save time!) I gently applied Distress Ink over the mask with an Ink Blending Tool. The results? A bright, white, thin outline around the monsters… along with a soft a halo of color.

I embossed my cards with the We R Memory Keepers Dotted Next Level Embossing Folder. I tell ya – these embossing folders are incredible. Such dimension!

This card design could work with so many stamps you may have. I think I will be making more! Oh – and for another video showing how to use coordinating dies for masking, head HERE.

Jennifer, I adore these monsters, love all the tricks and tips. I love getting matching dies with my stamps. Three reasons, my OCD likes everything to match perfectly, no patience to sit and fussy cut unless I have to, I’ve got arthritis in my hands. I wish I could buy matching dies every time I bought a new stamp set. Thanks for sharing, inspiring and the chance to win.

  2. Shaleen says:

I love coordinating dies only if the stamps are very intricate other I am fine with fussy cutting.

  3. LeslieS says:

I love using coordinating dies with stamps because I am not that good at fussy cutting.

  6. Cindy Aguirre says:

Yes I like to have the coordinating dies, but sometimes I don’t buy them because of the expense. I would rather use what funds I have for more stamps if the stamps are easy to cut out.

  7. Deneen says:

I love your cute monster cards and know the kids will really love them. I love to get the coordinating dies for my stamps when possible they make card making a bit easier 🙂

Cute cards! I love coordinating dies since they make life so much easier. Infact I always plan my budget so that I can fit both stamps and dies.

  13. Irina Fonina says:

I often wish I had coordinating dies, though they are rather expensive.. Your monster cards are cool!

  14. Scott Schiffnacher says:

I like to get coordinating dies, though the last set I bought (birthday balloons) came with dies that weren’t cut out in the middle, which makes centering on an already stamped image difficult. I hadn’t realised this before I ordered, and I guess I’ll be using the die first from now on..

  15. TracyM #6773 says:

FUN & FABULOUS cards – LOVE the design and colours 🙂
Googly eyes and sparkle always add the perfect finishing touch and you always share such fun ways to add interest with your colouring and adding bits, like monster feet and polka dots!!!
I’ve only got a few coordinating stamp-die sets and although I would always like more, I tend to have focussed on more intricute or nesting die designs, thinking I would get more use from them. PS – although my fingers often get stuck in the handles, fussy cutting can be quite relaxing, running my black marker around the side edges is too 🙂
THANK YOU for sharing your CREATIVE INSPIRATION and giving us the chance to win!!!

  16. TracyM #6773 says:

oops – I forgot to say that your masking idea is SO CLEVER – I am trying to hone my ink blending skills, so this will be a fun one to try, especially with my butterfly stamps & dies => THANK YOU for sharing!!!

These cards are just adorable, Jennifer.
Even though I would love to have coordinating dies with every stamp set, I don’t normally buy them, because I would rather invest in another stamp set.

  18. Dodie says:

I definitely like to purchase die/stamp combinations. I have a slight tremor in my hands, and it’s difficult to fussy cut so a die that matches the stamps is the best for me.

Jennifer, your kindness campaign this month is wonderful, and your giving spirit epitomizes kindness. Thank you.

  19. Gina McClellan says:

I just bought a die cutting machine, so coordinating dies are currently my kryptonite!

I love It! It’s so great and funny!!!

Great idea. I am happy to fussy cut simple shapes but I do like to get dies for images that are more intricate. It helps me get more use out of the stamps. Thanks for the chance to win.

To be honest, I’m actually afraid of coordinating stamp and die sets. I need to give it a try soon.

  39. Heidi says:

No, I would not be interested in coordinating dies, but that is only because I do not have a embossing/die cutting machine (like Big Shot, Vagebond, Cuttlebug). If I would have such a machine I would be interested ! I do a lot of fuzzy cutting.

  44. shona16 says:

.If available I like to get the coordinating dies for my stamps to speed up the process of making my cards. Fussy cutting some of my stamps if I am altering the stamps is fun also. Time is the factor mostly. Great idea for masking though and that would really help. Thanks for the ideas and Love your campaign for kindness.
