It seems that almost all stamp companies now have coordinating dies available for the stamp sets they sell. I have some of these coordinating die sets and I really wanted to find a way to get more out of them to make the investment worth it. And today’s technique is a great example!

After stamping the Avery Elle Monsters Stamps on a white die cut banner and coloring them with Copic Markers, I applied masks cut with the coordinating dies. (Boy, does using the dies save time!) I gently applied Distress Ink over the mask with an Ink Blending Tool. The results? A bright, white, thin outline around the monsters… along with a soft a halo of color.

I embossed my cards with the We R Memory Keepers Dotted Next Level Embossing Folder. I tell ya – these embossing folders are incredible. Such dimension!

This card design could work with so many stamps you may have. I think I will be making more! Oh – and for another video showing how to use coordinating dies for masking, head HERE.

CHALLENGE UPDATE

These cards are a perfect fit for this week’s Share Handmade Kindness challenge focused on kids. I also plan to send one to Emily and one to Xander for the Card Shower. I hope you are able to participate in helping these kids smiling! (More info HERE.)

  1. These cards are super cute! I love the idea of using the dies another way. I just got my first set of coordinating stamps and dies and can’t wait to try this technique. I hate fussy cutting! I’m so glad they make dies now! Sometimes I have to save up and get the dies later, but at least they exist. Thanks for all your great videos.

  2. I do try to get coordinating dies with my stamps…but I don’t store them together and then tend to forget I have them.

  3. I don’t have a die cut machine so I have no use for the matching die. I want to buy a silhouette machine eventually so I don’t have any need for the dies. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I really do like getting the coordinating dies with the stamps–especially with smaller or intricate images and words! I love dies!

  5. Another great post with amazing ideas. I live some stamps to have a matching die but others it’s neasier to use the scan and cut machine. Thanks.

  6. Hello, this is Mary Schmidt. I noticed on the winner’s page that a Mary Schmidt won this. Was that me? I don’t remember getting these. Forgive me if I did and have forgotten. Maybe it was a different person with the some name. It is a common name.
