It seems that almost all stamp companies now have coordinating dies available for the stamp sets they sell. I have some of these coordinating die sets and I really wanted to find a way to get more out of them to make the investment worth it. And today’s technique is a great example!

After stamping the Avery Elle Monsters Stamps on a white die cut banner and coloring them with Copic Markers, I applied masks cut with the coordinating dies. (Boy, does using the dies save time!) I gently applied Distress Ink over the mask with an Ink Blending Tool. The results? A bright, white, thin outline around the monsters… along with a soft a halo of color.

I embossed my cards with the We R Memory Keepers Dotted Next Level Embossing Folder. I tell ya – these embossing folders are incredible. Such dimension!

This card design could work with so many stamps you may have. I think I will be making more! Oh – and for another video showing how to use coordinating dies for masking, head HERE.

Great tip!!! I like to blend distress inks on my backgrounds, but I often get stuck as to how to add my image. This is a great alternative to fussy cutting. I do not often buy the coordinating die, but might more often with this technique.

  2. Chris says:

I do like getting coordinating dies but I get them only for a few of my stamps. Love your cards. Very cute!

Super cute. I love the matching dies but sometimes it’s not in my budget.

  8. Karen V. says:

I buy coordinating dies in most cases, unless the stamp is mostly straight lines or other geometric shape. That being said, it does cut into the budget so I have to be a lot more selective in what I buy.

  9. Ann says:

Love your cards. These would be great for kids to make as well. And I like having matching dies coordinate with my stamps…so convenient.

  10. Ari says:

Those monsters are so cute… I can’t wait until the stamp + die set is back in stock at SSS! I do like to get the coordinating dies, especially for images that I will likely color or for things that look tough to fussy cut. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve spent all the time to color an image and then just destroy it trying to cut it out! Great technique, thanks for sharing.

  11. Krissie says:

Oh my, how fun and cute your cards are! In general, I do like having the matching dies, but sometimes they are a bit pricey.

I can’t always get the matching dies because of my budget, but I will if they are super intricate and I know i’ll be using the set a lot.

it depends on the stamps (images). If they are very delicate design, I would like dies but since I’m on a budget, I would prefer buying more stamps (images) than buying the coordinating dies. 🙂
