5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

What fun tools to help with crafting. I’d love to have them in my craft arsenal!

  2. Becky McIlhargey says:

I love when you share your recommendations. I am constantly updating my wish list with items you find most helpful. My tool is a simple sponge for blending different colored inks or going from dark ink to light ink.

    Thanh you!

  3. Kelly B says:

    I love my Fiskars trimmer.

  4. Karen T. says:

Wow, these all look great and I can’t wait to try them! The tool I would recommend is one you already know about…the MISTI! Favorite tool ever!

  5. I always get in trouble. Ha Ha when I watch your cool tool must haves, because I feel I MUST HAVE them all. Thank you for all the cool ideas. Love your blog. Have a GREAT day. Bobbie Kaufman

  6. Teri Lawson says:

Great tool suggestions as always! I love my magnetic platform for my big shot. It keeps the dies in place without having to use washi tape.

  7. smlittler says:

I really LOVE the quilled precision tip bottle for my matte adhesive. It’s worked great for me. The jewel picker looks like a great tool as well, but I have to say my best tool to date has to be my MISTI. I absolutely love it and it’s saved many cards for me.

  8. I made my own “jewel picker” because I did not want to spend too much on the Ninja- Tool: just molded some bee’s wax (from a candle) onto the end of a pen, shaped it into a tip and now I have my pick up tool. 🙂
I also like the erasers that will remove glue residue!

  9. Cheryl L. says:

HAS to be my MISTI!! Absolutely the BEST tool I’ve ever owned!

  10. Valerie DeWitt says:

Thanks for the tips! I just ordered a few of the items. I like my teflon scissors. Cutting glue tapes and sticky things leaves a big residue mess on regular scissors. But it comes right off of the teflon ones. And of course, couldn’t be without my Misti!

  11. Farhana S says:

I’ve been using the sanding eraser and the jewel picker since last year and love love love them! Also love my misti and my tweezers (esp when heat setting!)

I need to try these new fine tips that you recommended as the quilling one get clogged for me ?

Oh the lawn fawn shammy! Love it ?

  12. If I’m recommending a tool for stamping friends I would say the Misti is a must have as well as the lawn fawn cleaning cloth! They both save me frustration time and money!

  13. yousee2it says:

Jennifer, you have suggested several of my favorite tools from your crafty things videos that I have purchased several. However like most of us I sometimes find solutions that are more affordable and work as well. The originals are great but sometimes you just have to pick and choose where your money goes. Two tools I am now using everytime I stamp is a car Shammy cut into a 6″ x 6″ piece it works great and I have a lot left over to use later. The second Item is a baby small food storage unit to hold my shammy and keep it moist. I purchased it at target it’s plastic the lid swivels and it was .99 cents. I’m just want people to think outside the box when on a budget but love card making. I’ll post a picture of the plastic container from target on my Instagram Beverlee Sagon. I hope this was ok to suggest. I also love my 123 punch board from We R Memories.

  14. Evelyn B says:

Love all the recommended tools! I could really use a few of them as making do with others don’t always work very well. My most used favorite tool is a small 2 inch tall spice jar to store my Tombow Mono and Multi Matte Medium in upside down – ready to go when I need them. I also use the small tips on both of those.

  15. Bobbie Jones says:

I love reading all your recommendations for new tools! I have never heard of the Mono sand eraser, but I am definitely going to add that to my list…can’t tell you the number of times I have accidentally gotten a speck of ink on a completed card and then had to see if I could add a ribbon, sequin, button or some other embellishment to hide my mistake. The sand eraser will be a welcome addition to own.
My favorite tool these days is my Misti. It makes it so easy to get everything all lined up, plus so nice to be able to stamp again if the first attempt isn’t completely filled in. Love it! Thank you for the chance to maybe win some cool new tools.

  16. Terry Zouzounis says:

    Hi Jennifer —
    Love your blog and tips. One tool I use constantly is my “ugly brown rubber eraser”. It often will rub some ink booboos off and it’s great for removing tape residue from everything! Im sorry I don’t have the name brand of the one i use. They are about 2″ square and flat {although one of mine is much smaller due to years of use!}
Thanks for your wonderful ideas and help!
    Terry Zouzounis

  17. Metty says:

Already use some of these and love them! Thanks for sharing.

  18. Sharon O says:

Your recommendations for craft tools are ALWAYS superb! You are objective about the products and offer many useful tips. I can’t wait to finish this comment so I can order mine from SSS! Thanks a bazillion!

  19. Christy says:

I got a sand eraser after seeing your November 2016 favorite things video. I love it! It has saved a few projects for me, the latest just last night as a matter of fact. I’m so glad I got it! Now I want to try out these other items, too. I’m especially excited about the Gina K boxes. I definitely need a better system for keeping kits and projects-in-process together! Thank you so much for taking the time to share so much great information! I really appreciate and enjoy your videos and blog posts. I’m learning so much from you.

  20. akedrn says:

Thanks for the jewel picker recommendation. This one is in my budget. ?

  21. Cathy R says:

Love the look of the eraser Jennifer, that would be so handy for my inky mistakes! My favourite tool is a pair of curved scissors that I use for fussy cutting. There’s no brand on it. I am always on the lookout for another pair with larger eyelets so my fingers don’t get so sore!

  22. Cindy Cayton says:

I love my big shot the very best . I would hate to hand cut everything for it . It’s the BEST !

  23. Rinda K. says:

Jennifer, thank you for the new crafty tool recommendations. I can’t wait to try them out. One crafty tool I would recommend is having a T-ruler (I actually got it because of you)! It’s inexpensive but so essential to have to easily line things up.

  24. Brenda lubrant says:

Thanks for sharing these tools with us today. I especially am very interested in the sand eraser. I could have used this tool many times.

  25. Lori Kaumans says:

These tools sound amazing and I’m especially anxious to try the sand eraser. This isn’t really a tool, but my favorite thing is my scrap workbox. It was a major investment but worth every penny! I don’t have a basement or area in my house that I can turn into a craft room, and this let’s me organize all of my paper crafting into one box that folds into a 6’H x 3’W x 3’D hutch. When it’s folded up it looks like a beautiful hutch and I chose the model with white bead board. Unfolded, it gives me 9′ of storage space, has a built-in craft table with storage underneath that, and tons of cubbies and totes to store all of my paper, tools, stamps, etc. It’s on wheels, so I can easily move it around, pull it away from the wall where it’s stored, etc. I absolutely love this thing.

  26. Jean R-T says:

I really like the Misti tool. It’s a game changer!
I’d love to win something for once in my life.

  27. littlen says:

I like my Cutterpillar Pro. Couldn’t craft without it.

  28. Margot Ferrera says:

I absolutely love my Misti. it’s the Best tool and time saver, exact stamper and so portable?

  29. Betty says:

i have the tombow sand eraser and love it – also have the darice bottles – not so much luck with them – definitely am going to buy the jewel picker tho – and my MISTI is my favorite tool ever!! thanks for the reccommndations!

  30. KellyinID says:

I have those knives and like I told you how much you scared me at times with them but thank you for reassuring me you’re ok with them and not yet cut yourself, boy I’ve cut my fingers many times with mine. But they are very wonderful to have. I will need to get that eraser and soon. My crafty tool is these tiny little alcohol wipes I get at the dollar store. I use them when I get an ink splotch or a mistake is made just lightly dab then I use a white eraser to smooth out.

  31. Sharon Madson says:

Love your crafty tools and would love to win. Thank you for sharing!

  32. Pat says:

I am a fairly new Misti user. It has become one of those “how did I ever live without it” tools.
I surely do know what you mean by inky fingers appearing where you don’t want them, so I am delighted to learn about the mono sand eraser. All these tools are terrific – can’t tell you how many fine tip glue bottles I’ve thrown away and the jewel tool – what a frustration saver!
Thanks for the info on the storage boxes. Glad to know where to get them now. Previous supplier no longer carries them.

  33. Bertha says:

Thanks for the update on the recommendations. Lots of great tips. I use the silhouette pick-up tool for small items like sequins but it can be difficult to get them off the end. The jewel picker looks a little easier to use. I did have a lot of trouble with the fineline applicator for my bigger bottle of glossy accents. It got clogged continually and eventually glued shut. I had to use some Undu to prise it apart and the tip came away from the screw top. Disaster. If you have another option for the larger bottles that would be great.

I would definitely recommend the tweezers with reverse grip. They are quite reasonably priced and can be like having a second pair of hands.

  34. Lita Lewis says:

My favorite is my MISTI!! It took me years to buy one, silly me, and now I don’t know why I waited so long.

  35. Sharon Gabel says:

The fine tip applicator is a really useful tool in my crafting. I have several placed “strategically” around my room (on top of liquid adhesive bottles, of course).

  36. Elaine says:

I highly recommend the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. It has cleaned up areas on a card for me so it looks perfect. Love it and wouldn’t be without it.

  37. Kathryn A says:

My favourite tool is still tweezers. I use it every time I make cards. I like the sound of that jewel picker, though. I didn’t have much luck with the Crystal Ninja…

  38. Julie Giles says:

by far the sand eraser has saved MANY projects from the scrap pile.

  39. Diana Geese says:

I have a small “bucket” near my Big Shot, it looks like a mini garbage tote (about 6″ high x 3″ wide), complete with wheels 🙂 I use it for small scraps of paper as I use the Big Shot, since my regular garbage can is across the room. It works out nicely!

  40. I would recommend the Stamp Shammy. I love it for cleaning stamps!

  41. Carey Nusbaum says:

Thanks for the great craft tool suggestions! They look amazing and must haves! The tool I would recommend is the Multipurpose Tool from Creative Memories. I have several and use them to position stickers, pictures on layouts, embellishments, etc! I can pry up items and rearrange the ones that are not quite aligned too!

  42. Susan says:

Love the tools . . . just got the same eraser myself and really need a jewel picker like the Katana. My newest ‘must have’ is a scoreboard, which I resisted for the longest time but now swear by!

  43. Lisa f says:

The stamp shammy is always on my work surface! I have found it invaluable and i use it every day to keep my stamps clean and ready for the next ink color! Thank you for the ideas!

  44. Lin says:

Wow, I have nothing new to offer, I love my small MISTI and the larger model, I have worn through two of the Tombow Mono erasers and use my bone folder often! I got an idea from my local library though. They ordered 3-compartment acrylic silverware holders and oh my gosh, I love to have my most used items standing up next to my craft mat. I cannot manage to copy a link here but check it out on Amazon.

The item is called: InterDesign Forma Flatware Organizer, Brushed Stainless Steel and Clear

  45. Sharon Perehudoff says:

Jennifer really love your crafty tools great tips for sure, the Fiskars Trimmer is some thing I do need to get just have a small one don’t work all that great in cutting card stock so will be looking for a new one. Would be nice to win the jewel picker now that I finally got sequins they are hard to pick up with tweezers. Thanks so much for all your wonderful videos Jennifer do enjoy watching and learning new tips.

  46. Susan Wareham says:

Really like those blades and the pick up tool, I think the reverse tweezers are a great tool to have.

  47. Jane bell says:

Love, love, the mono sand eraser. It has help me out numerous times. Thanks for introducing it to me Jennifer.

  48. Barbara Walborn says:

I am a bit of a perfectionist and absolutely hate it when I have spent a lot of time creating a card and then mount the layers in a less than perfect manner. My solution is to use UN-DO Adhesive Remover to un-stick and re-stick any non-water based adhesive. Works like a dream and doesn’t leave a trace, doesn’t harm ink finishes or even photos. A must have for me. I value your recommendations. Thanks.

  49. Mary Lee says:

Thank you Jennifer. I love my MISTI. I was a horrible stamper befor I got it. Now, I stamp all the time.

  50. Kim Rasmusson says:

I really like using rubber cement as a masking technique. (Learned from you of course) sometimes the place you want to mask is so small that masking paper just gets in the way, or comes off. I really liked that tip and have used it many times.
