5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

I like the ek tools reverse closing tweezers. They stay closed until you squeeze them and are perfect for small pieces of cardstock, stickers and photos.

  2. Sophia Moody says:

Thank you for the share…these products are great. I can’t recommend the MISTI enough! Such a game changer!!

  3. Lisa K says:

Love these tools! I use the Tombow Sand Eraser a lot. I use Gina K’s Clear Boxes after I empty the contents of my kit, for many things. Some hold patterned paper, others hold cards when completed, and many of my stamps. Right now I am loving my Misti. I have both the mini and the original. I just got the Creative Corners and am planning to try these soon.

  4. Amy Cooley says:

Well, anything I would recommend is probably something you recommended and I picked up! I love the magnetic bowl for keeping track of all my dies while working on a project.

  5. Pampam says:

    I. Love these tools!! I’d like to get some, hope I can win them. My problem, is I have to get everything online because I’m so rural, and the postage costs as much a s the product sometimes which makes me decide not to order unfortunately!

  6. Cate S says:

My favorite tool is the Misti-like stamp positioner that my husband made for me. Thanks for the new tool recommendations!

  7. Jackie Waxler says:

I love dies. The only problem is getting them stuck. So the xyron helps some. The fine tip glue containers work some, but gets the fingers sticky. I have something similar to the jewel picker that I love. Stamping 20 years, I have everything. Love the gadgets. Great ideas. Always want more.

  8. Audrey H says:

Thanks for the recommendations! The Penblades are also surgical tools. I found some packaged sterilely in my hospital unit.

  9. Lou Wittmer says:

I would gladly do without all the other other tools as long as I had my Misti. Although all of the above would be great also!

  10. Linda Towill says:

My favorite tools are my MISTI, Scotch ATG , Perfect Layers tools and my Big Shot. The jewel picker sounds great and the Darice fine glue tip sounds great too! TFS You are definitely the Stamping Guru!

  11. Stephanie Bell says:

Thank you for the chance of winning goodies.
Just got theWRMK Precision Stamper and am loving it ! Couldn’t manage without my ATG glue gun as I tend to add adhesive as though I’m wallpapering!

  12. Sandie says:

I’ve recently become a fan and follower of your blog. I love your tutorials and the techniques you demonstrate are priceless. Thanks for all the inspiration. I’m beginning to pick up some of the products you recommend. Keep up the good work and thank you so much!!!

  13. lacyquilter says:

    I don’t think I could live without my Scor-Pal.

  14. Tamara R. says:

I suppose a paper cutter goes without saying, so my favorite is my embossing heat gun. I love how embossing powders take my cards to the next level!!

  15. Paula Wolfe says:

I definitely am going to have to look into the jewel picker and the fine tip for adhesive (mine always clogs ARG!). The tool I can’t live without is my stamp scrubber. So quick and easy. It’s always by my side when stamping.

  16. Ann Apolito says:

Hi Jennifer thanks for the post,.the tombow sand eraser sounds like just what I need. I often find that I end up with marks on my cards which really frustrates me. At the moment my favorite tool would have to be the kokuyo adhesive glue tape which you also recommend.

  17. Mary Jane Steinhagen says:

The tool that I use all the time is a retractable needle that comes from, Tonic Studios. (I think Tonic but the truth is that the name is worn off the took, The tool I would love to win is the sanding eraser.
    Thanks.

  18. Joanna says:

I like all the products that you recommended in all of your vedios. One of my favorite tools is the Westcott T-ruler. Very handy and easy for lineup small sentiments. Thanks Jennifer:)

  19. Kelly says:

Misti all the way! She has saved many projects with poorly stamped images the first time!

  20. Debs says:

Like commenter # 36 I love the magnetic bowl…but my tip is to use an inexpensive plastic bowl that comes in frozen entrees called steamer bowls. I use them to hold small die cuts or card components while die cutting. These are inexpensive, sturdy, stackable, packable and useful when making a class project to sort die cuts. When finished they can be recycled…but I find they last a long time.

  21. Kailash says:

I love these and would be wonderful to win on your blog, never have but if I had to these tools would be amazing. I can’t live without my creative memories small guillotine, it’s a must have for me!!!

  22. Kerry Phillips says:

I cannot recommend the jewel picker enough!! Top must have!

  23. Debbie p says:

Thank you so much for all your great tips on tools. I have the mono eraser and I love it . Thank you very much.

  24. PA says:

I use the Fineline Applicator and Bottle for years and LOVE it! NO more clogged metal tips which comes in various sizes to fit most large and small bottles. I received samples from the company and tested them on the bottles I use e.g. large bottle glossy accents, Aleene’s Quick Dry Glue, Beacon and small bottles e.g. quilled creations, stickles/liquid pearl, and small squeeze bottles for classes. I used to use the metal tips with pins however, after a while the pins would rust unless one uses the NO RUST pins which ARE hard to come by in short lenghts.

  25. Christina Dauven says:

If you jump on eBay they have a wooden holder for the atg gun both single holder and double holder to keep the gun from getting sticky everywhere and the price is not bad. I always got it on something but now it has a place to be.

  26. Janet says:

I love the jewel picker and also the idea for the ranger multi medium matte!!

  27. Gigi says:

Oh boy, I need that Tombow Sand Eraser! I really couldn’t live without clear stamps. Total game changer, love being able to see what I’m doing. I could never line up the wooden stamp blocks – way too frustrating for me.

  28. Sharie Wilson says:

Thanks for this generous giveaway I would love anyone of them. My go to craft tools is my Big Shot.
And all it’s different platforms especially the magnetic platform . Just love it.

  29. Caro A says:

I love your recommendations! you talk about things you use, that you have work with for a while. thanks for that! I take your picks and try them whenever I can to see if they work for me too.
one “tool” I like to use is little ceramic bowls and pen holders that my mother makes. they remind me of her. she says she isn’t a creative person but she tries and she makes beautiful (and useful) items. I like to have them on my workspace to hold little dies and die cut shapes and at the same time take inspiration from them and think about the people I am making cards for… do I make any sense? I use the pen holders for my copic markers, smaller tools like tweezers, glue pens, waterbrushes, etc.. so my recommendation would be to use handmade products made by family members or friends to always have them near and feel their love to put more love in your own work.

  30. Diane Bolton says:

MISTI is great, but my must have tool is my teflon bone folder! Thanks for the chance to win.

  31. Stephanie Walter says:

Love the eraser but I also have Best Craft Organizer cabinets which I love – I use them mainly for wood stamp storage – the 1 inch depth drawers fit the stamps perfectly in one layer and I can see all the stamps at one time. Ikea storage units are deeper and then you have them in layers and hard to see. Deeper drawers I use for embossing powders, glitter, adhesives, re-inkers etc . And they are on casters – so I can roll them over to my wrok space as needed. Thanks for all you do for us and all the sharing.

  32. Lori Krische says:

Thanks so much for these new crafty must haves. I love my teflon bone folder. Do you have one?

  33. Vicki Smith says:

I have the sand eraser per your recommendation and I really appreciate this video because I am a tool fanatic! Love my WR memory keepers envelope punch board! I also like my Xyron 150 sticker maker.

  34. Michele W says:

While I have a number of tools that I love, the MISTI has become my favorite. It’s been a time saver (and mistake saver) since I often mass produce cards. Love that you can write on the Gina K boxes with a dry-erase marker. I will definitely be ordering some of those as they are a much more useful size than what I have been using. Thanks for all the recommendations!

  35. diana says:

    Thanks for these recommendations!
I have the mono easer and love it, too. 🙂

  36. joy meadows says:

My Misti is my favorite tool. So handy and so nice to be able to line up stamps and sentiments and, also, to stamp them twice if need be. Thanks for this video; the GKD boxes would be great for storing just about anything.

  37. Teri Ann says:

There are two items that are ALWAYS on my workspace. I am always reaching for my T-ruler and my tweezers.

  38. craftygal68 says:

Yes, sequins are tricky to pick up. I’ve been using tweezers, and they really don’t work well. I love the Jewel Picker tool. It looks so easy to use, and no more flipping over with the sequins, etc.

  39. Karin says:

I think a stamping tool is really helpful. Since I got mine I’ve come to use it a lot!

  40. Sherry B says:

I’m a new Misti user, and I just love it, especially for layered stamps. Don’t know how I did without it! That would be my number one recommendation to someone who’s never used one.

  41. Hema says:

I love all the new tool suggestions. I do have the mono eraser and love it. I am going to have to get the fine tip for the liquid adhesive. Thanks Jennifer!

  42. Teresa says:

A craft tool that I use is a 18 x 25 inch storage bin. I line the bottom with scrap paper and use the box when I flick ink or spray shimmer on cardstock. It keeps the rest of my craft area (kitchen table) clean. Thank you for a chance to win. I value your advise and suggestions. I struggle to keep the tip of my glossy accents clear. It always clogs up and is pain each time I use it.

  43. barbara lassiter says:

I’ve been looking for a better craft blade for cutting. These look to be safer and better. Thanks for the tips! I liked all you showed in this video! 🙂

  44. Angie Hall says:

Don’t know if this is a tool or a crafting supply but it is great for storing dies in the clear envelopes. It’s Flexible Magnetic sheets from Ellen Hutson. The sheets can be cut to any size. I’m impressed with the pen blades. I like the retractable feature. I still struggle with tips for adhesives. I bought the precision tips but they still get clogged. What has worked the best is using a part of the plastic from tags for clothing.

  45. DayleneS says:

All of these are terrific items that I can see how useful they are. One item I find very helpful is a thin plastic centering ruler. I think it’s sold near quilting supplies? It is regular 12″ ruler but the measurements start from zero in the middle and go to the outside edges. It also has small holes across one side so you can make light marks for where you are adding embellishments (brads/eyelets) or just need to mark. I use this ruler all the time to make sure layers or items are centered on work piece. It is very inexpensive and I love being able to quickly find the center and have correct placement.

    1. Lori Kaumans says:

That sounds like a cool tool!

  46. Krysta says:

Ranger Blender Tool…mini or regular…I have the need to add a little extra color everywhere with those things!!! 🙂

  47. Linnea Sundstrom says:

always appreciate your recommendations! I use a hardboard (mine happen to be small dry-erase on one side) to tape my project to for coloring. nice and portable and I’m not limited to leaning over a desk to work on a piece.

  48. janesprando says:

Thanks for recommending these tools. i have been searching for a jewel picker! I bought the Mono Sand eraser, but wasn’t having much luck. Turns out I forgot about using the gray side first!
I can’t get along without my clear T-ruler. It helps line up stamps, dies, etc… I bought mine at Office max.

  49. Susan S. Thompson says:

Like your other followers, I really, really enjoy your videos and look at them multiple times. They are one of my favorite crafting tools. My cutting mat and the Ranger type no stick mat are indispensable, along with my bone folders that I use in bookbinding.
Thank you for all of your time, ideas, and education that you share in your videos!
    Susan Thompson

  50. Donna Sharpe-Bradeen says:

I think the Misti is the bet product you ever recommended. Of course everything you recommend is always sold out on the internet and the stores. So, you know we all following you with all your recommendations. I love how you make everything look so easy. This is really great for us beginners. Thank you for helping and teaching us all your favorite tricks in crafting. Also, the magnetic dish is perfect for holding the dies that sometimes disappear on the desk. This was one from husband’s work desk, but now I have my own. What a lifesaver.
