5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

The Tonic Studios Craft Pick tool is a go-to for me! I use it whenever I use my dies for poking out the paper pieces!

  2. Teresa C says:

Absolutely can not function without my Cutter Bee scissors or my Tim Holtz clear steel edge ruler or my ScorTape.
    🙂

  3. Joan Fleischer says:

My new favorite is the Misti. I love that it allows you to restamp when you need a better image. Thanks for the chance to win. Just love all of your videos.

  4. eliece2014 says:

The tool I use most often is my Martha Stewart score board. Didn’t think I needed it until I got one. Can’t imagine life without it now. I use it with a ball stylus instead of a bone folder. Oh, btw, after I score and fold my card, I use a Teflon bone folder to make that crease really sharp without creating a shine on the cardstock.

  5. Lennettaj says:

I am so glad I watched the video where you talked about the Tombow eraser! It so fabulous for a messy inker like myself….it is definitely a must have!

  6. Laura Walls says:

I just couldn’t do cards without my big pink Scotch tape runner! It lasts a long time and is really easy to replace the tape when it’s out. I admit that I was intimidated by the size of it at first. I was using those replaceable small tape runners, but they run out so quickly. I got over my fear and absolutely love it now!! You still need the Multi-Matt Medium glue too, but using a tape runner for card making is the only way to go! 🙂

  7. Areli says:

Hi Jennifer! I love to use the Misti and the cutter bee scissors. I would like to add the jewel picker and the sand eraser to my craft tools. Blessings!

  8. Carla Hundley says:

    I have some of these
    tools! I also like the
    Xyron Mega Runner
    tape gun.
    Carla from Utah

  9. Marjorie DUMONTIER says:

Hey Jen’ ! Always helpful to read your appreciations about tools. About the Darice bottles, I’ve had the same colour-bleed issue but I thought it was the nozzle not being stainless steel more than the pin itself… I have to give it another try. Love from France, Marjorie

  10. Cynthia Link says:

I love my Crystal Katana tool, but this one sounds great (and more affordable!!) I LOVE my xyron sticker maker – only wish I had a bigger one! There are so many great ideas listed! Thanks for the chance!

  11. Debbue Bayser says:

Your product review videos are always super informative. Thank you so much! I love the craft knives and got extra sets to give as gifts. Look forward to trying the other items soon. Have a great holiday weekend!

My name loaded incorrectly – Debbie Nauser

  12. Kris says:

I find my tombow mono zero erase pen to be indispensable for erasing lines when I’m working on a project.

  13. MissElaineous says:

A very useful item is my Iris slim 12 x 12 clear plastic scrapbook case. It holds all 62 of my Ranger Mini distress ink pads in one place. So I can see all my colors at once.
I want to get a Tombow mini sand eraser. Hadn’t seen those before, and really need one.
Thanks for all your neat and useful ideas.

  14. Leann says:

ONE of my favorite tools is the We R Memory Keepers brad setter. Some of those tiny brads have such little prongs that the setter really saves my fingers. Also, the other end is a paper piercer so I can add a brad quickly any where on my page/card.

  15. Mary Kay Ross says:

I love the Perfect Paper Crafting Layers tools. They are great to use if you want an edge that is equal on all sides of a square or triangle. Love them! I also love my cutter bee scissors and crop-a-dial corner chomper. I have so many go to tools it is hard to pick just one. I love reading all about everyone else’s favorites.

  16. Pam McClung says:

I recently got and started using craft tweezers and wonder how I ever got along without them! They are especially handy for gluing in those tiny bits and little embellishments. I now have much less glue all over my fingers! https://www.scrapbook.com/store/ek-54-04000.html

  17. valchic says:

Jeepers I don’t have a crafty tool to recommend.Youve covered them girl. The pen blades are amazing ,my friend got a pack and gave me one and I craft with it daily. They are so super sharp. Thanks Jennifer. Its always fun to learn new things.

  18. Dot says:

I need all these tools…a pin will rust if used to keep bottles open…need stainless needle.
I fave lost my Martha Stewart small crease maker..still have large one but too big for workspace.

  19. Darlene says:

I really appreciate your recommending your favorites as this helps me deciding what to buy. I have been wanting the mono eraser for some time. Thank you.

  20. R. Hill says:

Adhesive eraser is my must-have tool, followed closely by the paper piercer, followed closely by a needle-threaded. I have a heavy-duty one for threading baker’s twine, yarn, linen thread etc thru button holes to use as embellishments. Especially cute on baby cards! Thank you for your wonderful ideas.

  21. Gabriella B says:

Wow a very nice giveaway . I’m sorry I don’t have a tool to recommend but always appreciate your thoughts . Have a great weekend.

  22. CandyB. says:

Totally great! I want to get all of them. Anything to make life easier. I am always reaching for my gum eraser and a dry paint brush for embossing boo boos. Thanks so much!

  23. Jonie Isenberg says:

I have been using Art Glitter Glue for quite some time now. The glue dries clear and fast. It comes in many sizes and some of the sizes use the metallic top for using tiny amounts of glue. This glue is amazing. If I had not used it myself, I would not believe all the things it will do.

  24. Karen B Walker says:

I’ve purchased several tools after your videos, and have loved most of them. My fave, though, is the MISTI. I don’t use it on every card, but it has saved a lot of cards by being able to restamp an image until I get it as dark as I want. Thanks for the recommendations. I’m one of the ones who has struggled with the fine tip applicators, so I’m anxious to try these new ones.

  25. Michele says:

I love the ranger matte medium

  26. I have the sand eraser and the pen blades! Great recommendations. I have a very inexpensive wax pencil meant for picking up gems for manicures. It looks exactly like a pencil but with a white wax core. It was on Amazon, 3 for only a couple dollars. It works really well! I had the jewel picker you’ve shown on my wish list but I won’t need it anymore with these wax pencils. It will take me eons to use them up!

  27. Tammy Perkins says:

I love my Sofia & Sam mini lap desk. When I travel, it’s perfect for doing projects on the go. It also has a handle for easy carrying. Highly recommend if you craft anywhere & everywhere.

  28. Meghan P. says:

Thanks so much for this update! I may have to get the jewel pin, it looks perfect! The tools I can’t live without are my MISTI, storage bins for the fridge that you recommended for my stamps and dies, my BigKick, my paper piercer and ranger matte adhesive. For storing my finished cards and card bases and envelopes however, I found a nice cheap option from Ikea called the Tjena Box that’s just the perfect width for cards and envelopes for standard sizes, and it’s only $2 per box. They are made out of cardboard and paper, but they’re super sturdy even when really full.

  29. Villa Steeves says:

I am loving the MISTI I got for Christmas. I’m always looking for new ways to use it, but I love that I can ink twice on the exact spot if there wasn’t enough ink on the stamp. I love all of your posts & have learned a lot from you!

  30. dancingcat says:

I recommend the Linus Divided Turntable Clear, I have all my re-inkers in one, I put coffee cups in another and keep my tools in them on my work table. They are also good for copics if you have a lot of them. Thanks for the chance to win.

  31. Nancy C says:

I’d have to say my adhesive eraser is my most used and loved tool. I really like the jewel picker and must get one soon. I also like the sand eraser that I purchased recently–it saves a lot of cards. Thanks for all you do.

  32. Alyce says:

I wish I had found this much earlier than I did. It’s probably the least expensive tool I use ~ an adhesive eraser.

  33. Debbie says:

Thank you, Jennifer, for carefully testing and recommending your favorite crafty tools. I’ve purchased many of the crafty tools and organizational items you’ve recommended and I’ve never been disappointed! My favorite tool is the MISTI.

  34. Beth Hansen says:

You always have the ‘latest and greatest’ tools to make crafting so much easier. I appreciate your advice. I have used the crystal katana and love it. The pen blades look fabulous – the finger one I have been using is awkward for me to handle. When you suggested the Misti, I went out and got one immediately and have used it constantly ever since. Thanks again for your ideas and helpful hints.

  35. Sherry says:

I have many tools, but love my 10 second bow maker and my Misti. Gave my Katana away-will try the jewel picker!

  36. Linda Cherry says:

You always have great ideas, I thank you for sharing them. I personally use an Omnigrip 4×12 ruler, it is great for trimming small pieces and leaves a clean edge on your paper. It is also super accurate to precise cuts, even to the 1/8th of the inch. Once you use them, you will be able to get down to a 16th. I have used a rotary cutter (small one for paper crafting) for years. I also have a 24×36″ omnigrid mat as my work surface. I have it face down and it cleans up wonderfully and I use it to cut on. The pen blades would work great with both of these products. These came out of my quilting supplies but work great with all my paper crafting. I think I am going to try the mono eraser because I only get smudges on my card when it is nearly completed….grr!! Sometimes there are no creative ways to cover up the smudge!

  37. Barbara Baxter says:

I love my new t-ruler that you had suggested. I also love my original-sized Misti. It is one tool that I put to use immediately. I live near Quilled Creations and have their narrow nosed bottles that I love. My greatest tool? Your videos! Thank you, thank you!

  38. Deepa Lakshman says:

I love all the tips you have given here. I always get my ideas from you. I like the adhesive eraser.

  39. Gilda (McStamper) says:

Thanks for the video. Would love to try the Darice applicators. A tool I use a lot is my We R Memory Keepers
Brad Setter and Piercing Tool. The piercing end is great for getting little bits out of my intricate dies.

  40. Darlene says:

Great give a way! All those tools are so useful. Thank you for the opportunity!

  41. Mary Hernandez says:

I craft on a budget ,and REALLY appreciate all your suggestions and tips. I try to use items commonly found in the home (like the coffee filters and Swiffer Dusters you suggested a while back for embossing… make the process so much easier). I keep an open mind for items that I can reuse in the craft space; recently discovered Tic Tac boxes for sequins storage and it’s a great alternative; they look super neat, perfect size, and very easy to handle. Also, I use plastic clear boxes found at local hardware stores for around $4 for storage, they fit from ink cubes to all sort of trinkets and tools.
Thank you for all the hard work and dedication!

  42. Susan King says:

It would have to be the Gina care boxes! How wonderful. They would be so useful for many applications! Thank you for sharing!

  43. Joyce Batty says:

The pen blades look phenomenal. My go-to tool are tweezers. Invaluable. Keep some yarn tied to them so I don’t lose them. Maybe I’ll have better luck with the fine tip adhesive top now.

  44. sheron egolf says:

I always enjoy your videos and all the great advice. I couldn’t survive without my Tombow glue. It will hold anything.

  45. Susie says:

Love these types of videos. i use mythirtyone travel bags , https://www.mythirtyone.com/stephanieelisehowell/product/8161 , that you previously recommended. I have one for each type of medium, zigs, colored pencils and dye ink markers

  46. Kim Szurnicki says:

I really recommend the EK Success Powder Tool for heat embossing. It’s super affordable. Best part is even though the powder it comes with seems to last forever, it can be refilled when it eventually does run out with whatever anti-static powder you like. I also like that it can be used to remove any stickiness from foam tape and any static on acetate when making shaker cards so shaker bits move freely.

  47. Gemma says:

    These tools look amazing!
I think the Teflon bone folder has been one of my best tool buys. More expensive than the other kinds of bone folders, but well worth the money for not leaving marks on cardstock.

  48. MaryAnn Weber says:

I love the eraser but would like to try the jewel picker. I truly enjoy your videos. You show your work and I can follow along. It’s nice to see who is conducting the video and the scrap room BUT I really need to see the project as you work on it. Thanks again for your great videos.

  49. bevkoz says:

I am always looking for new and better tools to use for my papercrafting. Thanks for these recommendations, Jennifer. I have the Tombow sand eraser, and it really comes in handy for my little booboos!

  50. Bernie F says:

Thank you for the reviews! I need to get these guys! My favorite tool is probably my MISTI! I use it all the time! Ya just never know when you need to stamp more than once. Plus it’s great when using the same stamps more than once. I’m always eager to see what you have for us next!
