5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

My T square ruler, I can’t get anything straight without it. MISTI is definitely a close runner up.

  2. Melissa Richardson says:

I LOVE Post-it tape. I use it for so many things, crafting and otherwise.

  3. Cyndi Morris says:

Wish I could be more original, but, as many of the previous comments, my Misti is my most used tool. I was late to the party on this one — didn’t think I needed it, but I finally bought a Mini Misti on sale. Now I can’t imagine how I managed without it. I’m saving up for a full size Misti so I can use the new positioning tools.

  4. Kathy S.... says:

Not very commercial, but one of my favorites are toothpicks.

  5. Kathy says:

Like so many others, most of the must-have tools I’ve purchased recently have been trialed by your good self. Thanks for the informative videos Jennifer. Not sure which is my absolute best buy, but I would definitely recommend the Misti.

  6. Leanne in Cali says:

I have to say that pretty much all of my crafty tools that I use and love have been recommended by you! You never let us down. Some of my favorite tools are the MISTI, the snips to get dies apart, micro pore tape and stick it—all recommended by you. Thanks for your great video. I hope you have a fabulous weekend!!

  7. Annette S says:

I have the number 11 penblade and absolutely love it!

  8. christi says:

love reading all of these comments. I can find new things I didn’t even know that I need. my fav tool is my misti. i’m a rocker and I can’t rock my misti!

  9. Maria M Fortunato says:

I really like Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators as well. They are great for glues that need to be placed in
a small area or even paint in a very thin line. Great products.

  10. Cheryl L. says:

Thanks for the tips! I recommend an adhesive eraser..it is my crafting best friend!

  11. Christine Patch says:

One product I would not be without is Grimeboss. I think they are the best wet wipes on the market – each one lasts a long time, smells wonderful and the fact that it has two sides, one slightly more ‘abrasive’ than the other, enables it to clean up so many products effortlessly. Thank you for your generous offer and wonderful videos.

  12. Mary Maley says:

Oh I really could use those jewel pickers. The tweezers I am using are useless. And the ultra tip glue bottles sound great. I have been using the quilling glue bottle but the new ones sound so much better. I have a sanding tool that I have for several years and it has been a great help when the card stock has a rough edge. It’s about worn out though. I would dearly love to win these awesome tools. Jennifer, I appreciate all of your videos, tips and ideas.

  13. Lynnea Berr says:

Thanks for the recommendations! I have actually been using the same or similar plastic boxes for years to hold wood mount stamps, purchased first from Archivers and most recently from Catan’s (known for Darice brands). They are called Stufftainers by Stampendous and come in Thin, Thick and Thicker. The Thicker ones house my wood mount stamps. I have them organized by theme (Valentines, Christmas, etc.) I have taken the boxes to my office supply store, put the entire box on the copier, and have a 3″ D-ring binder with a visual record of my stamps. I did buy a P-touch to label the sides of the boxes.
I loved the paper organization video and am working on 12×12″ papers. They are currently in an enamel 30″ kitchen type cabinet. Top and bottom shelves are all 12×12″ paper storage! Great job for a rainy day in NE Ohio!

i had one of those jewel picker-uppers by quikkutz. But once the glue ran out could never find it again. So the jewel picker upper would be great to win., And the sander – I make lots of mistakes – that would be a life saver. I always have ink on my fingers and seem to smudge it onto a card even when I am not trying. Klutz is my middle name but I craft anyway as I love to craft making cards and scrapbooking. Thanks for a chance to win.

  15. Kilcha says:

I’ve been watching your more recent videos noticing a different tip on your RMMM and wondering when you’d mention the new applicator tip. 🙂 I really like the price point of the new Darice ones, and also that it seems like a shorter distance for the adhesive to travel; therefore much less squeezing than with the QC prevision tip. I had terrible results with the Fineline applicator bottles, so I’m very happy to have another alternative!

I’ll admit that most of your MUST HAVE recommendations have found their way to my stash! Can’t live without my MISTI! Game changer for sure!

  16. Lori Hamilton says:

I love my Big Shot and all my thin wafer dies. Also my ATG tape gun!

  17. Michele Fosnacht says:

I can’t live without my perfect layer rulers for both card making and srcapbooking. Perfect mats every time!
Didn’t even know the sand eraser existed, but I sure could use one!

  18. Carol Godfrey says:

Love these ideas you always give the best tips! Would love to win!!

  19. Isabelle Messier says:

First one is glossy accent and JEWEL PICKER …I’m struggleing with finetip clogging…

  20. Nan says:

This is all new to me so you have been a tremendous help. Your tips have saved me money and time. The ek tools tweesers have been very helpful holding all the tiny die cuts. Thanks for all you do!

  21. Avra says:

I’ve been struggling (and spending too much) on different fine tip adhesive tips. I”m hoping I can clean them out and they’ll work well again. My problem is though, that I wold prefer to buy a large jar of Multi Matte Medium, and refill the smaller bottles, but I have not found a good way to do that. Any suggestions? I feel like I go through the small bottles so quickly that it is not very economical.

  22. Isabel Z says:

I have so many tools and love them all but I couldn’t do without my MISTI which gets the most use.

  23. Michelle michael says:

A craft tool that I use so many times are Sticky Notes & now that they come in different sizes & on a roll they are even more versatile

  24. The MISTI of course and my fiscar trimmer!!

  25. Oh I use the Gina K Boxes for storing my mini inks. Distress, altenew, ginaK, hero – all fit in there beautifully. and I make horizontal dividers out of cardstock. It has worked out great for me.

  26. Linda g says:

Love to read your recommendations! Always very helpful and I know you thoroughly test them before giving your opinions. I use versions of the items you suggested and am not completely happy with tips or the Quicker Poker Picker Upper, so will probably try the new items. Money spent on tools that work is money well spent! The tool I use most is probably the Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer….it’s always out! Thanks for the chance to win!

  27. AnnB says:

Thanks for another great video Jennifer, and the chance to win all those crafty tools! I find my Precision Press the most helpful tool I’ve bought so far, it makes placement of stamps so easy 🙂

  28. shirley says:

I have been looking for a good eraser and this eraser is just the one I need also, the tips for my glue containers is another item I need. Winning any of the products would be wonderful!!!

  29. Kendra says:

Thanks for all the ideas. I’ve recently discovered EmbelliJelli (no idea how to spell it). It’s been great for picking up sequins.

  30. Oksana Nakul says:

Thank you Jennifer for sharing this video…. I just beginner in scrapbooking and all of your videos really help me. I liked the mono sand eraser. My favorite craft tool is MISTI.

  31. Jean Purpura says:

Thanks for sharing your ideas on what is helpful…I learn so much from watching your videos….A tool I use every time I am stamping is my Misti! No more trying to reposition my stamp and failing…Love it!

  32. MargieD says:

Love the look of those pen blades – hope we can get them in the UK. My favourite tool is my Tim Holtz tiny attacher, don’t know what I’d do without it. Thanks for the chance to win.

  33. Veronica Allen says:

I highly recommend the Cutter Bee scissors. The cutting precision is amazing. Thanks for the information and chance to win.

  34. Diane says:

Always like to see your favorite products. My favorite is the Misti. Thanks for the chance to win.

  35. Isabelle says:

Thank you for this very useful video !
A tool which has changed my life is the MISTI. I had given up with stamping as I could never get an impression good enough (did I mention I’m some kind of a perfectionist ?). Since I’ve got my MISTI, stamping is a pleasure again. BUT, I still have to get some training, specially with the multi layering stamps, LOL !

  36. Chibibibi says:

I like to use sandpaper! I know it sounds crazy but you can make very textured backgrounds. I also like using salt (not table salt) for watercolour, just sprinkle some over for background or trees for awesome effects

  37. Deni says:

I do a lot with colored pencils so I keep my T’GAAL adjustable pencil sharpener handy. I can get a fine point if needed or adjust to a more blendable and less breakable blunt tip.

  38. Cheryl H says:

My favorites are my Misti (never thought I’d use it as much as I do) and my double sided tape.
Thanks for the video and the new stuff to add to my wish list 😀

  39. Velvet Pearson says:

I really could not get along without my Cutterbee scissors and my Tim Holtz scissors.

  40. Kimberlee Zimmerman says:

I love my T-Square ruler. Makes getting stuff straight so much easier!

  41. Bobby says:

This isn’t actually a tool but instead of buying the small bottles of matte medium, I buy the larger size ($9.47 for 8 oz on Amazon) and then refill the bottle that works well for me

  42. Teresa Doyle says:

Another fantastic crafty tool video! Love these to help keep me up to date (even if it takes me a while to afford it all! LOL)
My fave “tool” has recently become a cheap emery board! Not that the Mono eraser isn’t awesome but my budget does not allow for those extras. So I just use the coarse side of an emery board, lightly rubbing in a circular motion, then flipping it over to the buffing side and doing the same to remove the unwanted ink spots. Works like a charm and saves me money for those things I “MUST have”!

  43. Josiane says:

My MISTI has been a revolutionary tool for me. I mass produce cards so the MISTI really speeds up the process for me. I have more confidence in trying stamping more than ever with it.

I have bought a multi-pack of the sand erasers based on your recommendation. Can’t wait to try them out.

Thanks for the recommendations and have a lovely weekend!

  44. Pam HammarlundPam HammarlundPam Hammarlund says:

I love the idea of the Gina K storage boxes!!! I order stamps, dies, paper, ink, etc. after I watch your crafty videos. Sometimes I wait quite a while for a sale, so I get the items so much later after I’ve watched the videos. More time goes by until I can find time to be crafty. Then I look at the stamps, etc. and try to figure out what I was going to make with them.
I love the idea of the dry erase marker.
I am going to add one more thing – I copy off a print from the email I receive from your blog, so I remember what I had intended to create. So I would add that print to the Gina K storage boxes as well.

  45. Ang says:

I love my Misti and I can’t do without double sided adhesive tape, so handy.

  46. Pam Richter says:

I have used the Darice double-sided adhesive sheets for intricate diecuts. Works great and a time-saver!

  47. TK Garrett says:

Just one of my many essential tools is my silicone craft mat. It protect my craft table from adhesives, I can spray water onto a card safely with the overspray landing on the mat which wipes right up and I can roll it up and take it with me when I travel. Thanks for this contest!

  48. Roseann Boyle says:

I have a 6″ clear ruler that I use almost every time I create a card. Would love to try all the tools you recommend.

  49. mmdemars says:

Hi Jennifer! Of the items above, I think the jewel picker looks fabulous! I don’t have one… yet! But my other favorite crafty tool is the Glad Press n Seal – per your recommendation!

  50. jenia Rabinovitz says:

    Thanks for the tips!
My favorite tool is the mini Tim Holtz Scissors.
