Cardmaking With Felt

Hello. My name is Jennifer and I am a felt addict. I can’t get enough of it! I normally use it to stitch fun flowers and such, but decided to use it for card making today.

Felt is inexpensive and has wonderful texture. So why not use it on cards? In my video I share tips for die cutting felt and using it for creating cute critters. I created this video weeks ago… glad to finally share it!

I started by creating this card for my favorite friend, Kristina. (She has two grey kitties.) Aren’t they the cutest? I started by adding Stick It Adhesive to the back of all of my felt pieces. Before I die cut them, I smooched the adhesive onto the felt by running it through my die cut machine. I then die cut all the kitty pieces with the Paper Smooches Cat and Dog Card Die Set. Such a clever product!

I added stitching for the whiskers, touches of Copic Marker for shading, Your Next Stamp Black Licorice Glittered Gumdrops for eyes, and a Paper Smooches Huge Hugs 2 Stamp Set sentiment. After it was all placed together, I again squished it with my die cut machine. This guarantees the adhesive holds tight!

I really like hand stitching. So I added simple stitching to this felt bunny before adding it to the card. I created the bunny with the Paper Smooches Bunny Card Die Set and stamped the inside with “you are somebunny special” from the Paper Smooches Critter Card Puns Stamp Set. The card’s background was stamped with the beautiful Simon Says Stamp Flora Stamp.

That bunny just melts me! If you don’t have felt, you could also create this card with other fabric or cardstock.

A winking pig? Yes, please!

I also added stitching to the pig I created with the Paper Smooches Cat and Dog Card and Paper Smooches Bear Frog Card Die Sets. I love that you can use these die sets for pigs, cats, dogs, owls, frogs, and more! The sentiment on this card is from the Paper Smooches Critter Card Puns Stamp Set.

And finally, I created a mini card held by a panda! This card features the _Paper Smooches Bear Frog Card Die Set and Paper Smooches Huge Hugs 2 Stamp Set.

Hope you have a good week!

  1. Thank you for your video–the adorable felt cards and the tips for using the felt. I think you are right–I tried various sheet adhesives and the Stick It works wonders for the felt. I ordered the cat/dog die and am in the middle of making cat cards for my little ones. Such a fun project! I do have one comment about the dies, though. The Paper Smooches cat/dog die was extremely hard to separate, especially the eye pieces. I used a snip tool designed for cutting wire, but it was hard to get the snip tool into the tiny spaces, and of course the eye shapes would not bend. I am not in favor of these dies with all the sticky, poky parts you have to cut. I would pay a lot more for dies that were already separated and had smooth edges. Otherwise, I really love the project. You have done a super job! Thank you for your creativity.

  2. Oh my goodness – I just love these adorable felt animal cards. What a fun idea to die cut some of these with my cutting machine for my kids’ friends’ birthday parties! They will love them. Thanks for the great ideas here.

  3. I love working with felt too! Finger puppets, hand puppets, Christmas ornaments etc but I have never thought of putting it on my cards. My nieces would love the texture of these gorgeous animals. You could sew garlands and sequins on a Christmas tree! Thanks for the great idea! Also it will use up more of my felt stash. Bonus
