5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

Hi, my very often used crafting tool is my “Fiskars Paper Trimmer”. My trimmer has an extended arm to measure up to 12″. It makes straight cutting so easy. I love it.

  2. Lagene says:

I recommend Sizzix Precision Base plate. It is a must have in my craft room. intricate dies cut so much better with it! Thanks for the chance to win… Oh yes and I use corsage pins also. I just nip the points off with my jewelry nippers. That also gives a blunt surface to better push out the media in the tube.

  3. Tanya Suresh says:

Thanks to your suggestions, I’ve been using a portion of my paycheck to gather little things here and there. Thank you for these too – I struggled so much with adhering sequins and hope the jewel picked will work!
I don’t know if this is considered a tool, but stamp-n-storage’s awesome magnetic sheets with a carboard backing has really come in handy for storing my dies! I only got a pack because of the expense, but hope to buy more as I get dies eventually. They don’t stick together and are quite sturdy!

  4. Barb macaskill says:

I use and LOVE the Mono Eraser from Tombow. Never thought to use it to erase my card boo boos though. Thanks for the tip!
I have wanted to get my hands on the pen knives since I first saw them!
A few of my favorite crafty tools are the micropore tape from Simon Says Stamp, ColorBox stamp cleaning pad and Stampendous’s Stufftainers. They come in three sizes, from thin to thick and thicker so they are great for all of my 8 1/2 X 11 papers, resin pieces that need to be painted and lots of other things. I can’t forget Interdesign Organizers that come in many different sizes so they are helpful for storing anything and everything! TFS!

  5. Bev B says:

Oh WOW. I thought I had all I needed for my crafting but once again you have shown some tools I would LOVE to have. The craft knives are super and the Tombow Mono sand eraser would help when I get extra ink on my clear blocks and it touches the card stock. The Jewel Picker is awesome and would help getting my embellishments to my card much more easily. You have shown so many things that have and will make our cardmaking easier and neater. Thank you and I love your videos.

  6. Patricia Ladd says:

I use a pokey tool all the time to release paper from dies. I also use blending stumps when using colored pencils to get a nice finish.

  7. Sheri K says:

These tools seem quite helpful! My favorite crafty tool is my Pazzles die cut machine and software, even if I don’t cut or draw anything, I use the software to lay out projects, try different papers/colors for my layout. My other most used tool is one I sort of “concocted”–using the Ranger craft mat, a very study piece of thick cardboard (packaging with a duvet cover), and quilters stencil plastic. I securely taped a smaller craft mat to one side of the cardboard and the quilters grid stencil plastic on the other side. I use the craft mat for gluing, drying or as paint palette for inks, paints, and the grid size for assembling my cards, to get things straight. I liked it so much, I had hubby cut me a piece of board the exact size of the larger craft mat, put that securely on one side, the flip side I used an old Pazzles cutting mat first, and laid the grid quilting stencil plastic over it, since they were different sizes. That way if I need to use it like a cutting board, I can do that on one side and use the grid for assembly. I can easily carry both boards from my craft table to my kitchen table.

Thanks for all these recommendations! I can’t think of any tools I use that haven’t already been mentioned.

  9. beth myers says:

I have been using the Lawn Fawn stamp shammy for a few months now. I like that I am not wasting $ on baby wipes or paper towels. I usually keep a bottle of water in the craft room to rewet the cloth until I end up having to rinse it out.

  10. I love the Art Glitter Glue I use with a fine tip nozzle. I can use this wet glue in tiny books and even if it seeps out a little, it dries totally clear!

  11. Janet Sisk says:

I also love the Stamp Shammy by Lawn Fawn. I keep mine in a ziplock baggie to keep it moist. I rinse it out when needed and back in the baggie it goes. I also can’t go without my clear blocks for stamping by CTMH. They are thicker with grooves that make it easier to hold onto when stamping. Thanks for the chance to win all those goodies! 😀

  12. Diane Bakehouse says:

I would recommend an adhesive eraser. I tend to get glue on my cards, on the back, inside, on the front. The adhesive eraser is great for saving many of my projects. I already have the Mono sand eraser, and it is a must-have tool.

  13. Roz R. says:

I need/want them all. The fine tips look amazing. The eraser would be a Life Saver for me. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Berina Febin says:

These tools look very helpful. Thanks for sharing. I love my scortape, changed the way I make cards.

  15. Laura says:

My favorite tool is my Misti

  16. Linda D says:

I love the absorber cloth for cleaning stamps – I love the sand eraser and the Gina K boxes too!

  17. Laurie B says:

I love the idea of organizing my upcoming projects in the clear boxes and labeling them!!! I also like the iris 12×12 plastic containers-perfect if you have scrapbook page projects!!!

  18. Mary Dykes says:

I love my poor old bent craft knife, i use it for everything! I would LOVE all of the giveaways, and i am so excited about the fine tip bottles and eraser too!

  19. Carlos Haun says:

These sound super! How have I lived without them? I would LOVE to win these products!

  20. Char Borgmann says:

I found using liguid glue and a small sponge is great to attach vellum without seeing it. Thanks for all your tips Jennifer.

  21. Dolores VanGilder says:

My favorite tool is the MISTI. I use to make a lot of mistakes and now I can stamp with ease. I also love the magnetic bowls. I can’t wait to get the Jewel Picker and the Pen Blades.

  22. Mary says:

  23. Pat says:

I will get the Jewel picker. My favorite tool is the Misti. Once you use one, you never want to be without it.

  24. Diane Phillips says:

The one tool that I feel has been worth it’s weight in gold would be the misty stamping tool.

  25. Cindy Solly says:

There are so many great tools, but one that is overlooked is the Lift-Off. Don’t use it often, but when I need it, I know it’s there for me.

  26. SRJ says:

I think my most used tool would be my Fiskars paper trimmer – it gets used for every card I make, as well as most other crafting that I do.

  27. Jeanie Puckett says:

Not really a crafting tool, but a crafting asset. I have a stool that has adjustable height. I love it for when I need to be a little higher to get more “on top” of a project if I need a better view of things.

  28. Jayell says:

My favourite tool by far is the MISTI. I’m always messing up on my stamping which was frustrating but now it’s so much easier with the MISTI

  29. Ann Lee says:

I love my EK Craft Tweezers!

  30. Cheryl says:

I love my Creative Memories mini trimmer! It works great to trim smaller projects and is easy to travel with.

  31. Terry Eggen says:

One of my favorite tools is my SPELLBINDERS MAIN ATTRACTION MAGNETIC TOOL. It keeps my work area clean and I don’t loose my dies either by putting them somewhere they don’t belong or throw them away accidentally. Thank you for the chance to win~

  32. jayne C says:

My favorite tool is my WE R Memory Keepers Envelope punch board. I use it every week for my cards, and for my pocket letters. The gift card envelope size fits perfectly in the pocket letter pocket. Love making my own envelopes to match cards.

  33. Shanna says:

I love all of your tool choices!

  34. Debbie Fall says:

I will have to get me the mono eraser. Had never heard of them before. I use the fine glue tips and love them. I also need those blades knives too. Another great video. Thanks Jennifer!

  35. trimont says:

Thanks for sharing these, Jennifer! I’m not sure this will fall into the “tool” category.. but the thing(s) I’ve found most useful for inspiration and execution is anything/everything Jennifer McGuire. I’ve enjoyed your blog, videos, DVDs, online classes… your fave lists.. and on and on. Love your style of cardmaking, too.

  36. cris hamilton says:

right now I really like my Lawn Fawn Stamp Shammy. Thanks for sharing that with us!

  37. Nancy Frusco says:

Can’t live without my Misti! I have both sizes and would not be able to do the things I do without them!

  38. Terrie says:

One of my favorite tools is my paper piercer. It’s very handy when removing the back side of double-stick tape. It makes a “sticky” job much quicker!

  39. Linda says:

I love the MISTI Tool !
Many times when I stamp there seems to be a small area that didn’t quite get enough ink or pressure. So I am able
to re-ink and stamp again over the image with perfect results!

  40. Amy McCue says:

Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions!

  41. Brooke Berger says:

If you use stainless steel pins you won’t have a rust problem. Joann’s carries them although you have to look carefully because most of the straight pins are not stainless steel. Love the craft knife and the picker-upper…sorry, just what I will call it. Already have a mono eraser, Gina K boxes and glue top, lol.

  42. Patti L. Barber says:

Hi Jennifer thanks so much for sharing your favourites I do not have any of these items in my stash! thanks for the opportunity to win!

  43. Janine Mendez says:

After watching one of your videos- I ordered the fridge containers to organized my stamps. It has made a world of difference. It is so easy to see and use my stamps. I also have purchased a fine tip bottle for my ranger glue and that is awesome. Misty is also one of my favorites.

  44. Autumn B. says:

Stampin’ Up! Blender Pens take my projects to the next level. My craft wish list can’t take a Copic marker obsession, so I’ve been dipping the blender pens in my ink pads and blending with beautiful results. Thanks for the giveaway and the opportunity to read all these helpful tips!

  45. erica8 says:

Love the video! The tool I use a lot is the misti 🙂

  46. Jeanne Smoker says:

Thank you for your Must Havs Tool video. My favorite tool is difficult to say because I have not been stamping very long and I am always looking for that sort of thing. I don’t know if you consider this a tool but I love the magnetic storage cards from StampnStorage. I am a Stamping Up Demonstrator ( for myself so far) and when I buy my stamps or bundles with the die set they come on a piece of paper and they are very difficult to get off without bending the die or tearing the paper. I know this company is not alone in this problem. But when I get my sets I use one of the magnetic cards to keep my die set on and keep it together with my stamp set in the box the stamp set comes in. It’s very handy that way. Hope I win!!?

  47. Gerrina says:

I like to make scenes and one of the things I couldn’t do without is my stamping tool! A Misti or other prescision stamper is not always the best way, because I use wood mounted and rubber unmounted stamps too!
    And ofcourse my maskingtape!
    Have a colourful week!

  48. smfh25 says:

I don’t know if this counts as a tool, but it is crafty. I love my silhouette cameo.

  49. My go to tool all the time is the Misty! Just makes card making life so much easier!!

  50. Just ordered the darice! I love my magnetic bowl from harbor freight tools. It’s great for holding my dies until I’m ready to put them away.
