5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

Thanks for the new tools…that I now have to have! I have two ” can’t craft without ” tools. I love my Misti and my Lawn Fawn stamp whammy!

  2. Mary Gilbert Nieb says:

I’ve been stamping for almost 20 years and my most valuable tool is the MISTI.

  3. Linda MacKinnon says:

I love having all the tools I need to do my paper crafting. But the most used tool for me is the Misti. A lot less waste of card stock now.

  4. Kathi says:

What great products! I love my adhesive remover

  5. Megan Niergarth says:

Sometimes I struggle with the quilled precision tip… I feel like a large amount of glue is left in the bottle and it’s just too hard to squeeze out. Is that just me?? Paper trimmer is still probably my favorite tool. I was a scrapbooker first, and worked in a scrapbook store many moons ago. That was always a tool I recommended people to get in the beginning. I can’t cut straight for the life of me! 🙂

  6. THERESA HOUCK says:

Thank you for sharing, I love the jewel picker and the Gina K boxes.

  7. Tracy says:

I would have to say my score board has been my most used and favorite along with my teflon bonefolder to make nice clean folds.

  8. Jennyet10 says:

I would love to win those! I’m sorry my favorite thing to recommend is not new to you, but to my friends and family who enjoy stamping it is new. I LOVE the MISTI and since getting it after I started to follow your blog last fall, I will never do stamping with out it. I love it!

  9. Barbara says:

Gonna have to do some ordering as I am not lucky enough to win. Thanks for sharing.

  10. kim k. says:

These products look amazing! One tool that I have started using because I saw you use it is the T-square ruler. It has really helped me line things up. I look forward to reading your blog. Thanks so much for sharing your terrific ideas.

  11. Denise Ward says:

If someone is new to paper crafting, the first thing I always recommend is a good paper trimmer! I don’t know how one would do crafts without them! Specifically for card-makers, I recommend a good pair of small scissors to do the fussy cutting around stamped images.

  12. I own the penblades and i also love them. i use to loose the caps on my regular blade and cut myself a few times reaching for them. With these I don’t anymore!! I do recommend for a Misti, I know is a little expensive but I tell you since i got it I stamp more and make better cards than ever before!

  13. Carole Phillips says:

    Again great ideas & suggestions.

  14. Pai says:

i get most of my tool tips from you so i don’t know if i have one to share…. i use an old phone book as scrap to glue on and to stamp on as it has some give and i just tear off each page as i use it up…

  15. Barbara-Jean says:

Sadly, I don’t have any tool tips to share. Did buy a fine tip glue bottle that doesn’t work and recently bought the Spellbinders Tool’n One, but it doesn’t work as well at home as it did in the workshop I took.! Maybe it’s the difference in the paper I used!

  16. Mary Schmidt says:

I like putting down a blank piece of magnet (from furnace vent covers) on my workspace near my Big Shot when I am die-cutting. After running the die through my Big Shot, I put the die on the magnet square so it doesn’t get lost until I can put it away .

  17. Carol says:

I recommend A metal edged craft ruler. I’ve wrecked so many acrylic rulers using them with my craft knife that this is a must. I am not sure if this is a bargain for USA but the online store Stuff4Crafts are offering them at half price ($7.42) at the moment.

  18. Janet Wilson says:

Yikes, I don’t think I have one – problem as I use a lot of your tips, LOL!
I didn’t even realize the mono eraser had two ends – oops!

    Thank you 🙂

  19. Rose says:

Thank you for the giveaway – my tip is that I have discovered Velcro storage bags – I love them!

  20. Diane says:

I love the MISTI tool. I can’t stamp without it!

  21. Bobbie Wilhite says:

I really do enjoy your videos. I don’t use a liquid adhesive because I haven’t been able to find a fine tipped nozzle. I would love to have the nozzles you used in this video. I do make all of our greeting cards for every occasion, and have learned so much from watching your videos. Oh, by the way, I just turned 80 years young in March, but God has blessed me with pretty good health and I really do enjoy crafting.
Thank you again and keep up the good work.
    May God Bless you

  22. Erica Loscalzo says:

I need some of there thing

  23. Janet D. says:

I can’t think of any tips at the moment. lol I love your tips though! Thanks for sharing.

  24. susan hatfield says:

I’m pretty simple and love my tweezers and Misti the most! Thanks for sharing your picks!

  25. Renee Thompson says:

Oh I’ve been wondering what that craft knife was I keep seeing in your videos!
One crafty tool I recommend is Tonic/Tim Holtz retractable craft pick, or as I call it, the pokey guy. I keep this in my crafting bag so I always have it for swaps etc. I prefer this tool because you can retract the pick for storage — so you don’t get poked reaching for it in your bag, but you don’t have to worry about losing a cap.

  26. Tess says:

I love all of your “must haves” and product advice! I’ve never been disappointed purchasing things you’ve recommended! One thing I’ve also found that I use A LOT is tweezers, like the EK Tweezers! For me that’s always a must have when dealing with small pieces!

  27. Cindy says:

I have the eraser because I saw it on an earlier video. I use it a lot. Thanks for these new tool tips.

  28. stephanie bauling says:

I use inexpensive baby wipes to clean off my stamps and clean off my craft sheet when crafting! Thanks for all your great tips and inspiration!!!!

  29. kswift says:

The tool I would recommend would have to be the jewrey pick. It makes using little belishment so much fun to use.

  30. Myra says:

I have a simple acrylic photo frame that I glued a piece of magnet to it. This keeps my dies in a safe place while they are out of their home. I also have a mat on my web site that will save your crafting surface, callalilycrafts.com. I have used this mat for years, and it will save your crafting table more than once. I would also love to give Jennifer’s family a 20% discount.

  31. Linda Johnson says:

My most valuable tool is my Ott light. It is bright and gives natural daylight lighting so I can craft all day/night long and my colors stay true.

  32. Kathy Mc says:

Love when you give us your honest opinions on favorite products after using them awhile, Jennifer. One of my favorite tools is the QuickStik, and you probably recommended it. Thanks for the chance at another great giveaway!

  33. Maria says:

I use the glue glidder pro tape runner always & my Ott-lite sits on my crafting table plugged & ready to be used!

  34. toni farkas says:

This would h help in making cards. i think i need these!

  35. Jessica S says:

I really like your videos like this. It’s nice to see what tools you’ve tested and approved. I always follow your advice and I’ve never been disappointed. Thanks for all the time and work you put into these great videos. One thing I have that I really like is a magnetic bowl that my husband picked up for me at Harbor Freight. It’s 6″ wide and it works great to hold my dies while I’m creating, It keeps me from losing the little ones in the mess on my desk.

  36. Miuku says:

    Sizzix die pick accessory

  37. Katina Hronas says:

I love my Teflon Ergo Square Non-Stick Bone Folder. It doesn’t leave a “shine” on paper like most other bone folders, and it’s great for anyone with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome…

  38. Carolynn says:

I could definitely use the jewel picker as I always have embellishments shooting everywhere, LOL! My favorite crafty tool is the EK tweezers. They are so useful for a multitude of projects! Thank you for all the creative ideas and inspiration!

  39. Kathy Ferguson says:

I highly recommend the Perfect Layer rulers that create mat around your photos. Once you’ve glued your photo to cardstock or paper you place the ruler at the edge of photo and cut a mat. The set comes with two rulers and it cuts mat widths starting with 1/16″ and going up to 1/2″. You can mount your picture crooked and the mat will come out rectangle. Great way to use up scraps. I also like the We R Memory envelope punch board for making my own envelopes. I make many of my cards on the Cricut and I can make a matching envelope to fit the card exactly.

  40. Annette Pearce says:

I couldn’t afford a Misti so chose to make a D.I.Y. version and it has been such a game changer for me. I do more stamping than ever before and now exploring/playing with copics. I have a Cricut Spatular (the original version) that I grab every time I need to lift and re-align elements on my cards/layouts ( bit of a perfectionist about getting things squared up). For anyone with weak hands I highly recommend Fiskars easy action micro tip scissors for fussy cutting. I have R.A. and find these the best scissors for fiddly bits, then use a pair of tim holtz for everything else.

  41. Nan Leiker says:

I also get my tool ideas from your recommendations! You test all of the new goodies for us and then we get to use the products in a cherry pick manner. Thank you Jennifer!

  42. Sandra says:

I must say that I really love the jewelry picker, Mono sand eraser and the exchanging of the tip ideas the best.

  43. Marie H says:

I love the Cutter Bee tweezers. They are awesome for placing small letters and sequins and rhinestones. I would like to try the Marvy Jewel Picker.

  44. ellen bench says:

My favorite tool is the Misti, I purchased the small one when it first came out. Now with the larger trending stamps I decided to buy the large Misti for my bigger projects. Well worth the investment.

  45. Jan D., FL says:

I have many tools I wouldn’t be without, but one of my newest that I will never ever be without is a Teflon bone folder. It truly does what they say…no shiny marks on my cardstock….and one end is squared off. They are a little pricey, but unless you were to lose it, I don’t think you’d ever have to buy but one…so cheap over a lifetime.

  46. Theresa says:

My favorite tool that I recommend to all new crafters is the ATG adhesive gun.
It’s my choice for dry adhesive.
Thanks for the chance to win.

  47. NancyW says:

So many wonderful tips! Can’t wait to try the Darice adhesive tip. I have used others in the past, but this looks like a great idea!

  48. lindajm says:

There are so many tools out there that I use daily…but an old favorite has to be my Score-Buddy. I never could draw a straight line or fold my paper and have it come out straight to save my life…with the Score-Buddy, or Score-Pal, take your pick….they are perfect for making all those perfectly measured score lines and aiding your project to come out just right.
Thank you for all your recommendations, I have many of them and they are all winners!

  49. Mary O'Neal says:

I guess I don’t have a favorite. Some tools work better than others. I like to try different tools when I can afford to.
