5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

Thanks Jennifer for the tool update. Your opinion counts because there are so many tools out there.

  2. Karen says:

Love your recommendations. My favorite crafty-time tool is a little bowl of Hershey Kisses. Does this make crafting time better? I think so.

  3. Cynthia Cole says:

My favorite crafting tool is definitely the MIsti!

  4. Colleen F says:

Thanks for the tips, I especially love the tool for placing sequins and I need to have it! My favorite crafting tool is my craft mat, I like just slapping ink, glue, water on it and know it’ll wipe right up and my desk stays clean.

  5. I just got a new tool by Spellbinders that I think will be fun & useful. It’s the Tool N’ One. I tried it for the first time yesterday to remove all the little pieces from an intricate die cut and it worked really well.

  6. MargotNowicke says:

I *love* Dritz’s little folding scissors and use them everywhere. I had a pair that I used for years. They are TSA approved but were taken away from me at the Paris airport. I swear the woman wanted them for herself! Lol! When I finally found them again I bought like 10 pair. I have one in a mug of frequently used tools by my family room chair, one with knitting, one with cross-stitch, one by the sewing machine, . . . I’ve given several away as gifts to crafty friends. They have a little hole at the top so I’ve attached my knitting one to a retractable measuring tape and the FR one is on a sentimental key fob.

  7. Carolyn4723 says:

Thanks, Jennifer, for all that you do for us. One of my favorite tools is my Misti. It has made my stamping life so much easier. I could never restamp with success..now with the Misti, I can!

  8. Elizabeth Blankenship says:

Thank you for the information! I love all of your videos.

  9. Dear Jennifer, I am addicted to your recommendations and it is not always easy to get them in Mexico. My favorite tools are OLFA cutter and the 1-2-3 punch board of WeR.
    Thank you for the opportunity

  10. Maxine M says:

My “can’t live without” craft tool is EK Success Craft tweezers. I have nails and can’t maneuver small items or hold onto items to place them where I want them. Even when I can, using the tweezers just gets my fingers out of the picture for perfect placement. TIP – I wonder if a coat of clear nail polish on the colored pins would keep them from leaching the color into the glue?

  11. Amy Vitriani says:

Thanks Jennifer for the amazing recommendations!! I am going to pick up a couple of these. Do you think the Darice applicator tips will fit in the nuvo drops? Mine get clogged a lot. My favorite tool is probably my misti, I don’t know what I’d do without it. ?

  12. Lisa Tilson says:

Another great and useful video Jennifer! We are lucky to have so many useful tools at our disposal. The sand eraser has been great for me as I am always making little boo boos. Love my misti too, but tweezers are my most useful tool I think as I use them to place die cuts, adhere die cuts together, take tape off the back of adhesive tape etc. I couldn’t live without them!!!

  13. Lisa Sackett says:

Love the Gina K storage idea for new projects!! I have the Crystal Katana and love it – but if it wasn’t a gift I’d prefer the better price point of the newly mentioned pickup tool. I just bought the mono eraser at SSS Create event and LOVE it (you were amazing by the way – all were amazing in fact!!). I don’t use blade very often, but if I did, I’d definitely invest in the pen blades – they look pretty cool and the reviews are all good! I do want to buy the bottle set for the glue though – I love that idea for so many things. Thank you, Jennifer, for your kind heart and sharing your great finds!!

  14. Karen H says:

My favorite tool is the EK Tools tweezers. They are my “third” hand when tying a bow, picking up small die cuts, and placing small items on my projects.

  15. Robyn I says:

Thanks for the recommendations! My current favorite crafty tool is my MISTI — I can’t seem to make a card without it, and it has helped me avoid a lot of mistakes and ruining cards.

  16. Pat says:

Wow, super informative video on the five tools. Checking out the prices , they are within my range and thank you for your showing us these awesome tools that a good crafter should have. I plan to purchase a few of them soon.

  22. BunnyD says:

I love your recommendations and I use then when I’m buying something all the time! I fussy cut my images out so my EK Success Cutter Bee scissors are in constant use. The Teflon coated ones are my favourite. I have to admit I have not tried Tim’s newest smaller scissors. I love his medium ones for thicker chipboard! Those serrations are fabulous!

  23. Maureen Reiss says:

Awesome info!!! I couldn’t live without my MISTI!!!

  24. Thanks for all this great info. One crafty tool that I recommend are the Perfect Layers Tool, they are rulers that make cutting mats simple, you get an even cut every time. They are from Perfect Paper Crafting. I have a few sets of them so I always have them handy no matter where I’m crafting.

  25. Geri Clark says:

I have enjoyed all your videos and tips . My best tool is and can’t craft with out it is my MISTI.

  26. Andrea says:

My Misti tool has been a game changer!

  27. Stefanie White says:

My Stamping tool and my heat gun are the 2 tools I can’t live without as I addicted to embossing. For handheld items, I’ve been eyeing that jewel tool as I have thick fingers when I glue, haha!

  28. Phyllis Godin says:

Thank you for the new crafy tool tips. I can’t wait to purchase the Jewel picker an the Darice tips. My glue is always drying up. My favorite tools are my Big Shot and/or Cuttlebug and the Spellbinders Tool in One. I also saw your t-ruler which I want to purchase. What a great inspiration you are. Very helpful.

  29. Kay says:

My newest fave is Chameleon Pens. OMG! They are so incredible. Having been enchanted with watercolor forever, I’ve tried several methods to produce images—mostly without success (watercolor paints, watercolor markers, watercolor crayons, water brush). I was set to try alcohol ink markers when I discovered Chameleons, with a totally different concept. In no time at all I was finally able to make my images look the way I’ve always imagined.
BTW, I’ve been looking for suitable storage for my works-in-progress, so I’m going to check out Gina K’s. Thanks for the tip!

  30. Beverly A says:

Boy it is hard to pick one favorite tool but my newest favorite is my MISTI, I love it!

  31. kim smart says:

Thanks for these great tips! One thing I love is my Misti stamp tool! It truly is a game changer in my stamping!!

  32. Terry B. says:

I recommend the MISTI! I also use my Scor-Pal alot.
Thanks for the chance to win! I would love to try out some of your “must-haves”!

  33. Pat from sd says:

Thanks for sharing. I love my Fiskars paper trimmer; I use it every time I craft.

  34. Ann says:

It’s hard to just choose one favorite tool but I must say my Teflon bone folder is a keeper.

  35. Krissie says:

Just love your videos. So informative. I have a lot of favorite tools but I think my most used ones are my tape runner and bone folder.

  36. Patty says:

LOVE my t ruler and MISTI for most of my projects. Thanks for sharing more recommendations.

  37. Sharon Hensen says:

Thanks for the list of must haves. It appears I am slacking in that area as I don’t seem to have any of these items.
Thanks for the chance to win some.

  38. Janet says:

My favorite is Rangers Multimedium Matte because it doesn’t leave a big shiny blob when I put too much glue on teeny weeny die cuts! Jennifer, you’re the one who told me about this product. I like seeing the new things you’ve found. Thanks!

  39. Ellen says:

I appreciate these inspiring and informative tips so thank you Jennifer. My favorite crafting tool would be the Misti.

  40. Janet says:

I must have the Jewel Picker. It’s brilliant.

  41. Linda L. says:

I’ve had problems with other fine-tip applicators. I need to exert so much pressure to squeeze out the glue that my hand shakes and tires. I’m going to give this a try and hope for the best. The jewel picker seems like a great tool and won’t take up a lot of space, so I’m going to add that to my collection. Thank you for all your suggestions, I regularly purchase your recommendations with happy results!

  42. thank you for taking the time to help us with crafting tools and use them before to see if they are good for us thanks again

  43. Maureen Chandler says:

Your crafty tips are wonderful and I added everything to my continuing wish list! I love the Misti and also my We R Memory Keepers envelope maker – so much fun and a wonderful use of the tons of patterned paper I tend to hoard! Thanks so much for your blog and all that you share!

  44. Jennifer Hovermale says:

Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful tools to make crafting easier. I have two. The first is a magnifying ruler. I got it at Dollar General for about $2. It allows for much more precise measuring and marking. My measurements are all exact and there’s no more guessing or averaging. The ruler is only about 1-2″ longer than a non magnifying ruler. I love my Cricut tweezers!!! For those times when you need an extra hand, these work beautifully!! Many other tweezers I found don’t close the whole way, but I have had these for about 2 years and they still work like they did on day one. I have many different awesome storage must haves, but that’s not what you asked for. Thank you for your generosity always!!!

  45. pvvillemarJMG17 says:

I just ordered 3 of the 5 crafty tools that you suggested, and am looking forward to using them. I have a pick up stick but it is not easy to pick up sequins or small embellishments onto anything. Your posts and videos have helped me tremendously. I watch your videos all of the time, and although it takes me several attempts I usually come a little close to the appearance of your cards.

I very much like the Gina K storage box, and hopefully I will order them soon. I am way over budget for “crafty things” this month. I am looking for a clear blue, thin (1-3/4″) storage satchel that I use for my wooden stamps. I bought one at Texas Art Supply, but I have since moved from the Houston area, and I don’t see it on their website. I haven’t heard back from Texas Art Supply after writing to them and inquiring about the product.

In the meantime, I am storing my wooden stamps in the zippered plastic, new pillow case packages.. I make a sturdy little, no lid, 3-sided box and slip it in the package and store the wooden stamps face up so that I can see them. I will keep looking for that super slim 12-1/4″x10″x1-3/4″ plastic satchel.

  46. Mary Davis says:

My favorite tool is the little bowl (your recommendation from some of your videos) to keep up with your small die cuts.

  47. SJ says:

So many tools that I love. I have *many* 2″ wide 1/4″ grid quilt rulers that I use all the time. So easy to center and line things up. Recently purchased the mono sand and that saves me on a regular basis.

  48. Monica says:

I must have the Jewel Picker ASAP! Thanks for sharing it!

  49. Colleen Howell says:

Thanks for the new tools, my favorite tool is the Misti, I do not make as many boo boos on my stamping using this tool, I love it!

  50. TamiB says:

Thank you so much for your recommendations and the reasoning behind your choices. For me —- gotta have a paper cutter that cuts straight. I really like my Fiskars!
