5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

I couln’t live without my ‘pokeytool’, i use it mostly for picking up jewels with a sticky backing to them.
And anothing i just love is my papertrimmer with a cuttingblade ánd a scoringblade. Live is so much easier with those two things ??

Love al your videos and blogposts btw!! You have a lovely voice to listen to?

  2. Nancy says:

  3. Kym says:

I couldn’t survive without an anti-static powder tool and a heat gun!

  4. Lindsey says:

I can’t live without my stamp positioning tool it’s really made me more confident with stamping.

  5. Milla says:

Ooo, that jewel picker is definitely something I need! My absolutely favourite tool is my Misti, I use it all the time and cannot stamp without it.

  6. TracyM #6773 says:

Ooh – the Jewel Picker and Liquid Adhesive Tips sound EXCITING! I confess I struggle with my tweezers for sequins & gems and I did try the quilled precision tip but found that I can’t squeeze it hard enough to get the adhesive out.
THANK YOU for sharing with us Jennifer, I always appreciate your honest feedback and recommendations.
PS – my favourite tool is the Fiskars Self Healing Craft Mat but I can’t find a link in the SSS store to share it with you. It is part of every project I make, even using the reverse side with applying liquid adhesives or ink blending. The 2nd tool on my list is the Fiskars large stamping press – https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product/Fiskars-Easy-LARGE-STAMPING-PRESS-Stamp-Entire-Project-at-Once-08849-39231?currency=USD
The COOL thing about it is that it doesn’t matter what size your project is, you can stamp evenly anywhere.

  7. Annie says:

My favorite tool is my heat gun. Thanks for the chance to win!

  8. Arianna Barbara says:

    Great tools, Jennifer!!!
My current favorite tool is my heat gun!!!

  9. Annie Marquis says:

Thank you for this post! I hadn’t heard of a couple of those tools! Can’t wait to try the eraser and the clear boxes! My favorite tool is my humble Scor-Buddy. It’s the smaller sister to the Scor-Pal. This makes it quite portable, yet it still meets most of my needs. The built-in bone folder is clever. I reach for it all.the.time!

  10. Nicole Jones says:

Totally live Ranger Multi Medium Adhesive!

  11. Theresa says:

My favorite tool is the Misti! Love all your videos!!!

  12. Tracy Kaufman says:

I just bought a MISTI and it has been a game-changer for me. I hesitated in the past due to the price. Now I know it’s worth every penny!

  13. Kara says:

I cannot live without me clear Tim Holtz ruler.

  14. Cristina says:

Cool suggestions! I recommend a good stamp cleaner…my life is changed since I used it with a cleaning towel like yours…

  15. Theresa G. says:

That jewel picker is a MUST HAVE (I think)!! I am absolutely wild about my Teflon bone folder. I can’t live without it!!!

  16. Maureen Hampshire says:

I would take my Misti to the four corners of the earth!!!

  17. These are all such useful tools. I especially like the jewel picker. Does that work for removing dies cuts from dies as well? I have some dies that don’t have release holes and the cuts are sometimes difficult to remove. Anyway, you’re suggestions are always so helpful. I currently use the EK Success Precision tip tweezers to pick up sequins and such. The jewel picker seems like it would do the job nicely. Thanks for the chance to win!

  18. Marie says:

Great finds, Jennifer! My two most used tools are my Big Shot machine and my new Misti and my Martha Stewart mini score board. I don’t think I make anything without at least one of those. Thanks as always, for the chance to win and all you do to inspire us! Blessings, Marie

  19. Denise Lupardo Lowe says:

Hi Jennifer !! Thank you for all of your wonderful ideas and videos !!! I can’t tell you how helpful they have been to me in SO many ways….including helping me find my own ways of doing things differently !! So, hopefully I can pass a helpful crafty tool on to you !! As a Goldsmith and Metalsmith by trade, I cannot LIVE without my AA tweezers !! These are usually the very pointed ones, but some manufacturers make them differently. The ones I love have a very delicate feel….in other words, you do not need to press hard on them to close, as well as a very graduated fine point. I cannot do anything without them !! Hugs to you and have a great day !!!

  20. Theresa P says:

Great tools! Thanks for sharing. Love my Misti and Big Shot that I use all the time.

  21. Linda says:

I love tools that make my crafting life easier! Thanks for using and recommending to us the ones you find best for you!

  22. Holly Fictum says:

I’ve been seeing those pen knives and was wondering how they were. I may have to give them a try. I like the jewel picker too. My favorite tools are my Misti and my huge collection of dies… you can NEVER have enough dies!

Thanks Jennifer, have a super day!!!

  23. My ery favorite tool is my MISTI, I don’t know how I ever stamped without it.

  24. bette says:

My fave tool that is not on your list yet is Topro Stainless Straight Extra Fine Point Tweezers Jewelers Tool With Protective Plastic Sleeve. I use it to pick up sequins but because of the fine tip, it’ll also poke those little holes in the dies so that I don’t need to run for a needle or picker. 🙂 Love my sand eraser that you recommended last year. You seem to have a better latest greatest version now with the white erasable end but your other video said to grab an eraser to smooth out the paper. I just order a jewel pick and laughed with I saw this as one of your fave’s now. I have the pick-me-up but am forever adjusting the putty so am looking forward to just picking and plopping, not reforming my pencil shape every other minute.

  25. Maril says:

As always, your tool tips were very helpful. I appreciate being steered towards products that provide real value. Favorite tools of mine are glossy accents and the MISTI. Glossy accents add great dimension and”Wow” to projects. Recently have used the Misti for adding an image to newly mounted rubber stamps. Katzelkraft stamps come as bare rubber, so I back them with adhesive fun foam (instead of hugely expensive EZ Mount) and add a window cling layer with a Stazon-stamped image. Using the MISTI, I can create a perfectly centered image on the cling material. Check out Topflight Stamps for darling Katzelkraft stamps!

  26. Anita R says:

Right now the Misti is my favorite tool. I love these tips!! So useful. I’ve got to get that sand eraser…one for me and one for my calligrapher husband who does the envelopes for my cards! TFS

My email address is showing up incorrectly. How do I change it?

  27. cindy yost says:

I love the jewel picker. What a great idea! Thank you for sharing some of these useful tools. Can’t wait to try them.
You can never have enough tools.

  28. Amanda Waugh says:

I have been looking for something to use for sequins as the tool I use now isn’t very effective. The tool I like the most in my stash right now is my retrackable craft knife. I like that I don’t have to worry about losing the lid. Thanks for the great information.

  29. Jane Manzey says:

Acrylic stamping blocks. They make it Easy to place your image correctly and see exactly what you are doing.

  30. Brenda Douglas says:

Thanks for sharing these awesome products. Can’t wait to try them.

  31. Sstills says:

    Hi Jennifer,
I recently discovered you! I love your videos! I have totally re organizated my crafts. Thank you!! I am loving the misty. At the moment that is my favorite. I must have the jewel picker, that may be my next favorite thing. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. ??

  32. Tess Vogts says:

I don’t think i could live without my superfine needle tipped tweezers, they’re great for so many things across most of my hobbies!

  33. CathyL says:

Thanks for sharing some more of your favorites. The jewel picker and the sand eraser look like great ideas!

  34. Maggie says:

Stampin Ups paper piercing tool is a multiuse tool. It is good for positioning jewels, straightening up crooked paper pieces and helping remove paper images from cutting dies. I couldn’t make it without this tool.

  35. Donna Gagnon says:

Love all the items shown especially the pen blades, watched quite a few videos there you have used this item and I could not find it to purchase. Now I can thanks… I have a lot of favourite tools I simply can’t do with out. It is hard to pick just one. I guess the one I really could not do without is my cutting machine by cut’n’boss by Teresa Collins.
It is electric and great for those crafters who have medical issues with their arms or hands. And it is a resonable price.

  36. jbatik2000 says:

I can’t do without my MISTI. I think I might have to get the jewel picker. Thanks for the suggestions.

  37. Sandy Nyhus says:

I love my misti for stamping- and I am anxiously waiting for the misti carry bag to be released.
Thank you for sharing your favorites- Many of which I end up purchasing 🙂

  38. Marlow Dorner says:

A bone folder is a must.

  39. Vanessa says:

Good Morning Jennifer and readers, I have been wanting to share this tool with anyone who loves crafting as much as I do. The tool I am talking about is the Precision Cutter by Slice. (Disclaimer: I want to start by saying that I am not in any way affiliated with Slice, and I am not being paid to by them or recieving any benefits.). “The Slice Precision Cutter blade uses 100 percent zirconium oxide—much harder than steel—and can handle any material typically cut by craft knives. It’s finger-friendly edge stays sharp 11x longer than steel blades, and never rusts.” https://www.sliceproducts.com/product/precision-cutter
An extra added bonus is that, “TJ Scimone founded Slice as a way to help fund long-term care for his autistic son. One percent of all Slice sales are donated to autism research.”
Another option by Slice, that I haven’t tried yet, is the Craft Knife. The nice part about this tool is that unlike the precision cutter, you can actually change out the blades if needed. Give it a try and let me know if you like it as much as I do. Thanks.

  40. Keiren says:

My favorite tool is definitely my stamp positioner! Also my Perfect Layers! Thanks for the tips, I will be definitely trying some of these items.

  41. Laura Greig says:

I have to say my favorite tool at this point is my Misti, but all these look wonderful, thank you for the video!

  42. Terri Stiefel says:

    Hello!
A tool that I would recommend that I use often is twizzers! I scrapbook and make cards and it helps to pick up those little pieces of paper!
    Have a great day!

  43. LEANA HODGE says:

I use the Creative Memories “Multi-purpose” tool ALL the time! I am anal about things being straight and I often don’t adhere things straight, so this tool comes in very handy to help lift up the crooked item and put it down in a new place. I couldn’t survive without my multi purpose tool! Thank you for your recommendations, I’ll be getting a couple of those items now 🙂

  44. Thank you so very much Jennifer for another fabulous video on crafty tips!!!
My most top 2 favorites I think I would have to say is my Misti and my Brother Scan N Cut. I love the Misti because you get perfect stamping every time and with my Brother Scan N Cut I don’t have to buy the dies if I don’t won’t to to all the stamp sets that I buy, even though I still I love to have the matching dies. Which by the way is a very good thing for me since my younger daughter swiped my Brother Scan N Cut and is refusing to return it to me.

  45. Sue in Grapevine says:

I just love my MISTI — so much less ruined cardstock since I can double stamp w ease & precision.

  46. Maxine says:

I like many tools when crafting but my favorite is my low heat glue gun and a unused pencil. I am somewhat new to this so I’m still learning and love your tips.

  47. Marie O says:

Thanks for the update, Jennifer. I have been having lots of issues with the quilling tip. Look forward to trying something new. I love the mono sand eraser and the jewel picker. My favorite craft tool is a thin metal palette knife. When layers are crooked I just slide the palette knife between the layers so that I can reposition them.

  48. Paula says:

I love my MISTI but can’t wait to use the jewel picker and the fine tip applicators.

  49. Sherry Bleach says:

I am addicted to new tools that make my crafting easier. One of my new favorites is the Spellbinders Tool ‘N One to use with intricate dies.

  50. Brenda in IN says:

I always love your tips and have tried many of the things you reccomended. Every single thing has worked great. I would love to win the Darice product as I have tried so many times to get them and they are always sold out!
