5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

That jewel picker looks amazing! Thanks for a chance to win one. I previously bought the sand eraser (on your recommendation) and I love it! Thanks for all the informative videos you give us.

  2. Dyna L. says:

one of my fave crafting tools would have to be the MISTI

  3. Kaye says:

I love, love , love my trimmer. I use it everyday and I would be lost without it. It was pricey but has never become dull. I love the glue tip idea you used and am excited about trying it.

  4. Denise Freeman says:

Hi Jennifer! Great tools. I will be trying each. Thanks so much for the tips. Denise

  5. Denise Freeman says:

Hello again!! I forgot to mention my favorite tool ever. I have to say multi matte medium – and you know, I have the precision tips and the pins – but never thought to store it that way. So thanks, Denise

  6. Meredith says:

My most used paper crafting tool is the Tonic Guillotine cutter! Cuts perfectly every time.

  7. Rufus says:

Oh there are so many tools, but if I were to be stranded on a deserted island I guess the one tool that I’d want the most would be my Tonic Guillotine paper trimmer, but I’d want both my big and little ones! The jewel picker looks fantastic as does the sand eraser and a quick retractable craft knife would be great. Reached in the jar for something the other day and jabbed myself with my craft knife blade, ouch! A four pack of the tips, huh…sign me up! LOL Thanks for doing these you’ve introduced me to new products and saved me money!

  8. Barbara Sandison says:

I use a corsage pin to peel back double sided tape and I just love my Misti stamp positioner
Thanks for all your locveky posts Barbara from South Africa

    1. Barbara Sandison says:

I use a corsage oun to peel back my double sided tape thank you so much for sharing your lively ides

  9. Nicole says:

I actually reach for a weird little tool that I think was originally for cleaning your keyboard. One end has a pointed silicone tip and the other has a retractable brush. It’s perfect for picking up oozing glue, holding this that are being heat set and many other things. I have no idea where it came from, but I’m glad it’s on my desk. Lol

  10. Barbara Woodard says:

Thanks for this post. I am going to add the tool for sequins ASAP!! I struggle with them every time I use them. My fav tool is by far my Misti!! It has changed my life and makes my cardmaking so much more satisfying. I don’t know how I did without it.

  11. Hanh says:

Thank you so much for another great video. I have a few favorite “go to” tools. First is the Hampton Art Stamp Perfect. I couldn’t afford the MISTI and the HA Stamp Perfect was very reasonably priced when it was available. It has completely changed my stamping. No longer scared of stamping. No longer tossing out a whole bunch of mistakes. My tweezer is also always by my side when crafting. It helps me pick up all of the small things as well as handle all of the pieces that I just put liquid adhesive on. It has become an extension of me … my extra long and skinny fingers! ? But by far my most favorite “tool” is the computer that has given me access to incredibly talented crafters like you, who have demystified techniques, informed me of super helpful tips/tricks/tools and most of all inspired me to try new things and just be creative. You have truly changed my world! Thank you! ❤️?

  12. Marcia McAllister says:

Thank you for doing the leg work for us. With so many products to choose from on the market, it is nice to have demonstrations to help us narrow things down. Two tools that I find indispensable are my Fiskars paper cutter and my ATG adhesive.

  13. Kim Maxwell says:

I hate to sound repetitive but I could not live without my Fiskars paper trimmer (the same one you use), the wire guide makes precise trimming so easy and I also love my stamp perfect positioning tool (It’s very similar to the Misti, just a little cheaper in cost). I had one of the jewel pickers and absolutely LOVED it. I think my 3 year old son got a hold of it and now there is NO telling where that thing is. Lol!! I would love to get a replacement!! I am most definitely going to be purchasing the pen blades. I don’t have a good craft knife. Thank you so much for sharing. You are simply amazing!!

  14. Mary says:

It’s really important that the pin in that Darice bottle is stainless steel. I am assuming the one that comes with it is otherwise the pin rusts and turns your glue brown and becomes hard to remove. I’ve been buying these identical looking metal tips for a long time through a quilting shop and if you lose the pin you need to replace it with a stainless steel one. These types of tips are my favorite and work better for me than any others. Great post.

  15. Gayle A says:

Love the jewel picker and pen blades. Gina K boxes look perfect to help me organise

  16. Jean marmo says:

I love these tools. It is nice to see what you think. I guess my favorite tool would be my paper trimmer.

  17. Michelle says:

The Gina K Designs boxes! These would definitely help keep me organized while crafting.

  18. Nana711 says:

I don’t feel that I use many unique tools, but I always use my stamp positioner, paper cutter, scoreboard, and ATG Gun.

  19. Toni says:

I still love my glue dots!

  20. Wendy S says:

My favorite tool is my stamp positioner. I would really like to try the sand eraser. What a gem 🙂

  21. I have mostly what other crafters have. I guess my most used is my Xacto knife. I would love to win this prize for the Pen Blades alone…lol!

  22. val says:

some items are now available outside USA… sigh…

  23. shylaashree says:

    Hi jennifer,
Thanks for always sharing great tips and for being so generous. All the tools which showcased are must for a crafter. Since i don’t have any great tools, i recommend Mono Sand eraser & Penblades knife set for crafters like me

  24. Sheri Elmont says:

I don’t have any of these, but have heard about the sand erasers. My favorite tools are my MISTI and Corner Chomper. Hmmm, I could list a whole bunch of faves!

  25. Toni C says:

Yes please! I love all the usual tools (mentioned by others) but a bit of a non crafty tool used in my craft room is a metal rack that is usually used in a drawer to hold frying pans and other kitchen stuff upright. I have my trimmer, Misti and stamp scrubber sitting in it to give me more table top space.

  26. Magee Dudley says:

My must have is a small pointed to the tip scissors. The Martha Stewart one is great. I need a gem pick up tool.

  27. Bonnie Thrasher says:

My go to craft tools are my trimmer, score board and Misti. I really like the tools that you have shown and love organization.

  28. Susan G. says:

I love my Spellbinders tool that has a brush on one end and the other can have various interchangeable tools. I usually keep the pick end in for getting those bits of paper that refuse to let go.
I am going to check out your recommendations. I have never used a sand eraser and I have been looking for a good project keeper option. The Jewel picker looks like a handy tool as well. I already use a fine tip for my adhesive.
    Thank you Jennifer.

  29. justMarie says:

I saw you using the knifes on one of your videos and thought it was so handy I had to order one. I can’t wait to try them out. My favorite tools are my paper trimer and MISTI

  30. Dayle S says:

Thanks for sharing… I need to get the sand eraser for my boo boos. Hmmm…. I’m a bit of a tool junkie, so I have way too much stuff, and always getting more. I suppose my favorite tool now is my craft mat that is non-stick silicon on one side, and non-skid material on the other. It beats the other mats because it never slides on the table, but still has the easy clean up of other mats. Love it!

  31. Gail says:

These look like great tools. I love my Misti. Makes stamping so much easier.

  32. Lauri Bacalzo says:

I love my Marvy jewel picker!
I don’t know what I would do without it!
But I could use another one because I always forget where I put down the one I have lol

  33. Cindy Brooks says:

My favorite crafty tool has to be my Silhouette Cameo!

  34. karen says:

Love theses tools!! My current favorite tool is the misti!

  35. Marion Jones says:

My favorite tool is a real scalpel with a number 11 blade. The blades are sharper and thinner than any other blades I have found.
Thanks for all your great tips and videos. Just tried the Glad Peel and Stick. It works great!

  36. My recommendation is to adhere tack’n peel to a stamping tool’s lid so it can be used with unmounted rubber stamps.

  37. michal meiri says:

I love these tools. It is so nice to reed what you think! My favorite tool would be my Fisckars paper trimmer, and ATG gun..

  38. Marcela I. Alvarez says:

I really like the tools you have shared! I must try them! I think that a great tool also is the misti!

  39. Ronda says:

Thanks for sharing the tools. I think my favorite tool in my MISTI.

  40. Michelle Brown says:

First of all, I just have to say thank you SO much for your blog and especially for your video tutorials. They are wonderful. Funny short, and true story. I was just recently looking into getting a Minc machine and was doing some research into cost/performance comparisons between it and a regular laminator. I came down on the side of the Minc after watching your video, and was making my case to my husband. I said, “let me show you a video.” His response was, “let me guess, Jennifer McGuire.” Needless to say, I talk about your videos, often. Lol. So, one of my go to craft tools right now is Quick Release Die Paper by Ultimate Crafts. I got it from Simon Says Stamps. I used to be terrified to use delicate, intricate dies {until watching so many of your videos and got the confidence I needed to try one}. I remember seeing on a couple of other blogs the conflicting info about using household wax paper in your dies, some say DO and some say DON’T. So I decided to try this. I don’t think there is any wax in it. It feels like a thin parchment paper, and it works like a charm. It actually has a darling print on it, and I keep all of the cutouts of the paper itself to use one day on some mixed media tags or boxes.

  41. Marianne says:

Thanks for the new overview, Jennifer. My current favourite tool is the Misti. I have recently ordered the Misti creative corners as well and am anxious to pick them up at the post office today, along with some other new supplies, and try them out. I haven’t had much luck with my fine tip applicator, so I’m still looking for a better option. I have had a couple of Cropper Hopper Stufftainer boxes for many years and have used the thickest size for storing my mini ink cubes before I moved them to a shallow drawer of a desktop drawer unit. I really like your idea of repurposing them for project organisation.

  42. Alice Hu says:

Besides the Misti (which is a wonder tool), my Japanese screw punch is my favorite paper arts tool. It has 9 different bits (from 1.0 – 5.0 mm), which allows you to manually drill through leather, chipboard or 5 sheets of card stock with ease!

  43. Kathy Hen says:

Thank you for the information about the Darice tip applicator. I have tried several and I still struggle to get an ultrfine application.

  44. My favourite tool is my bone folder, I have a real bone folder for making crisp fold lines but I also have a teflon folder I got from Volcano Arts which fits nicely in the hand

  45. Gunilla says:

I recommend the Misiti. Just got mine and I LOVE it!
Thanks for the chance to win.
    Have a lovely day/Gunilla

  46. Andrea says:

My favorite tool is my Fiskars rotary trimmer. Need to use it all the time cuz I don’t have rectangle frame dies. Other favorite tools are the little pink scissors from the dollar store. It’s small, sharp, durable, pointy, and the blades don’t have much overlap so I can snip with the tip without bending the paper. And then there’s that small handy acrylic from Tim Holtz alcohol ink kit. It’s so small and thin it fits in my tiny craft box yet it’s large enough to work with most of my stamps.

  47. HeleneHelen says:

awesome products, I would love to win these helpful products, rather hard to find in Europe, and the postage costs more than the products themselves… my favorite tool at the moment is the MISTI, love it !! thanks for a chance to win,

  48. Marise Nyberg says:

Hi Jennifer, My new favourite tool is the Tim Holtz stamping platform. I love how you’re not limited when it comes to the size of your paper, scrapbook pages can even be accommodated. What did we do before stamping platforms?
Love the look of the Marvy jewel picker, I could certainly use one of these.

  49. Joanne L says:

Thank you for the very helpful information. I love the Sizzix Precision Base Plate for intricate background dies. Can’t do without it.

  50. TAMAR says:

Love all of your posts! I dont have any of the tools you wrote about, but I’m sure they ara great, because you recommended them. My special tool is the self healling cutting mut. Thanks for the sharing .
