5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

Thank you so much for posting this! I must give the Jewel Picker a try. My favorite tools include the MISTI, blending tools and scoreboard. I use these tools on almost all of my projects. Another tool that is a must-have for me is the Dremel Rotary Tool to file down the tiny metal on dies that come connected. It takes just seconds to file down the wire and make it smooth so that you don’t poke yourself. 🙂

  2. Barb in kazoo says:

Nice suggestions. My tool that I love is my misti. It changed my stamping and my cards are so much better.

  3. mandy Salazar says:

I absolutely love my huge Tim Holtz scissors!!! How did I ever live without them!! LOL

  4. Darlene Walters says:

I think one of my favorite tools is the Spillbinders Tool’n One. It is great to use on all the delicate dies. I would spend so much time trying to get all those little pieces out of my dies but now that I have the Tool’n one it is so much easier.

  5. Judy M says:

I love my Fiskars scissors. The micro tip and the extra long blades that are great for fabric. I also love my Martha Stewart scoring board. That is indispensable because I enjoy making boxes using 12×12 paper.

  6. Lauryne says:

I love the Lawn Fawn Stamp Shammy and the Precision Press. Thank you for informing us about the Mono Sand Eraser! I could have used it a few days ago (darn!) so I have that on order and I can’t wait to try it out. I would love to win the pen blades! Thank you for all your videos; I really look forward to them each week!

  7. Charlotte says:

Hello Jennifer, I really enjoy all of your videos on card making, you really explain things very well and make your cards interesting and apealing. Keep the videos coming!

  8. ShellyK67 says:

i recently got my MISTI and haven’t used it enough yet, but loving it so far!

  9. Carrie Purkis says:

I can’t wait to get my hands on the sand eraser. I’ve always used an ultra fine sandpaper.

  10. Michelle T says:

All I can say is the Misti changed my life. My stamping is so much better. I will have to try the jewelry picker. Thanks.

  11. vivien lee says:

I love the tim holtz scissors. One of the best tools!

  12. Kathy says:

I LOVE the mini Martha Stewart scoreboard! So easy to bring everywhere and works for 75% of my projects.!!
I love the boxes!! I’m using project envelopes for now as they seem to take less space though. The jewelry picker is intriguing!!

  13. Robyn says:

Hi, thanks for your post! I will be trying the jewel picker and the mono sand eraser for sure. I would recommend the MISTI to everyone, I think it’s a must have with a very reasonable price point. I use it for all of my cards now.

  14. joy says:

    Hello, beautiful and talented crafter!!!
I don’t know about fav, but one of my go-to tools is my metal nail file (no, not the one I use weekly, but one just like it).
I am a newbie paper crafter for about a year now, and with absolutely no funds to buy the tools I need (no job), I use my metal nail file against a metal ruler, and voila – instant scoring.
Thanks for all your tips and tricks, and, of course, the giveaways, Jennifer!
    His,
    joy

  15. Janae Pickett says:

I have struggled with stamping but the MISTI has solved most of my issues. It’s fun now. I have used the Pen Blades and also recommend them. For months my eye has been on the Crystal Katana but the price has been scaring me away. So excited to see the jewel picker!

  16. Thank you so much for this post! I love it when we get to hear product reviews from people who have been using the products and the products have been effective for a couple of months or years. I have the sand eraser and it’s a lifesaver whenever I get ink smudges. But the tool I would recommend which I use ALL the time is the EK Success tweezers. I use them to glue everything in place, without having to stick my fingers in the way. Thanks!

  17. pam lewis says:

only have a few things, but it would be my misti, would love all the above, will try and get them soon,
Cheers from down under love your work.

  18. Gail Plaskiewicz says:

My favorite crafting tool, well, that’s a hard one. I guess my scissors that cut backing for stamp rubber. I bought some stamps from someone that didn’t have backing on them so I bought a sheet of backing. It’s very sticky and ruined my scissors. The person I bought the stamps from told me how to get the glue off of my scissors and gave me a pair of scissors that she had that were very sharp. I can’t locate them right now to tell you the name of them but they were expensive for a not to big pair of scissors and this person has a customer for life because she did that. I’ve seen something like the jewel picker in a Fire Mountain Gems catalog. They sell flat back rhinestones and I want one because I have some of those. This tool would be a big help. Oh yeah, I forgot I love my clear mounting blocks for my unmounted stamps. A friend gave them to me and I bless her for giving me all those different sizes. I didn’t have to buy any and that saved me some money. I also love my Marvy Paper Trimmer. I can’t cut a straight line and someone told me it’s because of my astigmatism. This does it for me! Love it!
I’m ready to win, are you ready to let me win? LOL

  19. Nicole says:

My favorite tool is of course the MISTI, but for it I found the magnet bar that Jennifer recommended makes SUCH a difference. The two little magnets that I had just didn’t help keep my card stock where it needed to stay, but with the bar I don’t have to worry about my card stock trying to move. As for the 5 tools you recommended I want to get the pen blades and the jewel picker the most. Though the eraser could help me as well.

  20. Trina Chaska says:

I love my Misti right now.

  21. Stephanee Oberer says:

Thank you, I love the craft tool videos. So helpful. The tool I love is my Misti.

  22. Michelle says:

Very nice selection! My favorite tool? The misti. I’m still waiting for my tim holtz stamp thing-y, they’ve put it off until June 🙁
Thank you for a chance to win!!

  23. julie m says:

i like the reverse tweezers that hold on to items while i heat them or whatever.

  24. Stacy V says:

I love that mono sand eraser too! My go=to tool is probably my stamp scrubber. Zip, zip and your stamp is clean!!

  25. Amy O says:

I like using a stamp shammy. But instead of pay the high price for just one, I paid about the same amount for a shammy from the auto department that’s 6 or 8 times the size! It is easy to cut into stamp-size versions.

  26. Donna K says:

I need to try all 5 – I know I would use all of them very often. Something I use all the time is a set of Tim Holtz acrylic blocks. They are very thin and in a ton of different sizes. Seemed expensive at the time but I have used them a ton – worth every penny.

  27. SaBrina Bradley says:

    Hi, there Ms. J
My craft tool would be the absorber!!! It does a great job cleaning the stamps.

  28. Pam G. says:

Apparently most of us agree that the MISTI has made us happier and more competent stampers. Can’t count how many things I threw out before I could get a great impression every time! Not having the jewel picker I’ve been using some nice tweezers I got from SSS to pick up sequins, etc. but I’m eager to have a tool designed for that specifically.

  29. Carol b says:

I love my tools and gadgets! I do like using my heavy duty guillotine cutter. It makes quick work of cutting cardstock when I’m making lots of cards.

  31. Loly Borda says:

Besides the Misti another favorite tool is the Spellbinders – Tool N One very useful with intricate dies. Thank you for showing these! Some are new to me!

  32. Ann Kulseth says:

I love my MISTI – and my Martha Stewart score board (both sizes). But there are so many other wonderful tools on my desk that I couldn’t craft without!

  33. Kathy Aguilar says:

  34. Stacey L says:

Thank you for this post! I love the price point on the jewel picker and will have to give it a try. My must have tool is the MISTI. It has totally changed the way I stamp. I love it!

  35. Carolyn Gilbert says:

One of my favorite must haves is baby powder. Undo anything sticky or even turn a sticker into a pop up using baby power.

  36. Alma Dirpaul says:

Thank yiu for this great infirmation. I recommend a scoring tool, ATG adhesive, aTim Holtz ruler

  37. Laura S says:

My ATG gun is one of my favorite tools when crafting!

  38. Diane Zureski says:

Thanks for providing a review of these products… I think the sand eraser is a must have for me. I’m always getting ink where I don’t want it and I’ve often resorted to stamp cleaner to remove it. My favorite tool is my Misti. It has saved me so many times when a don’t get a clear image the first time.

  39. Megan says:

So many amazing tools nowadays it is hard to pick… I would have to say I love my Martha Stewart scoring board and the MISTI of course. Just bought the MISTI corners so we will see how fabulous they are. Thanks for the great recommendations.

  40. Karen B says:

    The Darice bottles look great!

  41. Jill Rauenhorst says:

Just yesterday I was wanting an eraser for ink! I would love to win the eraser and I’ve also been using alot of sequins, which can be challenging. Love your blog!!!

  42. Nancy V says:

I love my MISTI’s !!! I have had an original MISTI for over a year now and use it constantly. I started making cards for the assisted living/memory care facility my son’s girlfriend started working for when she graduated from nursing school. I try to make cards for most of the holidays for around 50 residents there and I could not do it without the MISTI. I recently purchased the MISTI for use with 12×12 paper for scrapbooking but have not had the opportunity to use it yet but I am sure it will be very helpful. I find all of your videos/tips/techniques very helpful in all that I do and appreciate so much your dedication to helping all those from beginner to pro. I believe we can all help each other no matter our level of skill.

  43. Bonnie Ditto says:

Your posts on tools are so helpful. Always good recommendations. Thanks.

  44. Janine says:

Probably fav is MISTI. I also like the crystal kantana when dealing with sequins. I never had luck with a previous tool I had tried so kantana seemed like magic. She makes a cheaper version too the I keep in my tool box of supplies when crafting on the go as it takes up less room than kantana in its case

  45. Sandra Colebank says:

Thanks for the recommendations. I’ve had trouble with fine tip applicators clogging. I like my Score pal for scoring my card bases.

  46. SuzanD says:

My favourite crafting tool is a tip I got from one of your favourite crafty videos. It a magnetic bowl to hold my dies. There are so many teeny tiny dies and by having the dies in a magnet bowl, these dies are not disappearing while I create. Thank you for this tip.

  47. Helen says:

I believe that you already mentioned all tools that have helped me. I love my MISTI, anti sttatic powder tool and lawn fawn stamp shammy. One thing that I can mention for my unplanned grab n go projects is my Quickie glue pen. It has helped me do quick touches whenever I needed it. As always, thank you for the useful information!

  48. Phyllis Freese says:

It’s hard to limit it to one, but I’d have to say the MISTI. I didn’t really think I needed it at first, but once I got used to using it, it’s the one tool I constantly grab to aid in my stamping. I love that I can make the images really dark & can stamp over the black outline if the coloring seems to overpower the outline.

  49. TJ says:

I love my paper trimmer. I have had it for over 20 years, long before I started card making 18 months ago. In fact I moved countries and it was the only craft supply I brought with me.

  50. Jo Clemmons says:

Hi Jennifer. You are so talented and I love it when I’m using a tool you recommend.! I have been using the boxes when I first started stamping. At the time I didn’t have room to store all of my clear stamps and I originally bought mine from Archivers. I also use them for paper. Stampendus is the company who made them but I haven’t been able to buy any since Archivers closed. I’m very glad to see where I can continue to buy them. .I buy the white storage dividers from Ellen Hutson. I can fit 2 in a box and get several stamp sets on each page. I store them in a deep three drawer storage container by themes. I also use a small size(thin)and only use 1 white card. I like the jewel picker better than any of the others! The only thing I didn’t already have are the Darcie fine tip applicators. I don’t like the others because it’s so hard to press the glue out of the bottle. I have been a stamper for thirty years!! I love your videos, and have learned so much more from them. Thanks.
