5 New Must-Have Crafty Tools + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Back in November, I shared My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016. Many of these still hold true today! However, I recently found several new must-have tools that I can’t get enough of. I think you will like them! Today I share five.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used at no cost to you. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

Here are five inexpensive tools that I have found very helpful in the craft room lately…

#1: Jewel Picker

Sequins and such are very popular right now, but can be tricky to pick up and place in just the right spot. Until recently, I was using the Crystal Ninja Katana Pick Up Tool. It worked well, but one of my blog readers told me about the Jewel Picker. And boy is it amazing! You can use either end to pick up small embellishments and put them exactly where you want them. And the price is great!

#2: Darice Liquid Adhesive Tips

Last year I shared a video on several fine-tip, anti-clogging, liquid-adhesive tips. (You can see the video HERE.) I really liked using the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle and never had problems, but I know many people still had issues with it. So I revisited my options and found the Darice Ultrafine Tip Applicators works well with small Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy Accents bottles.

One thing I found helpful: I replace the color-topped pins with plain pins. I found the colored ones would bleed and change the product color. Corsage Pins work great.

Please be careful when using this due to the sharp point. I have not had problems with rust or anything and have used it for 4 months. So far, so great! Also, if you have the Quilled Precision Tip Glue Bottle, you can always use a pin in it, too, instead of the attached lid.

#3: Mono Sand Eraser

I shared this in My Favorite Crafty Tools of 2016, but I had to share it again. The Tombow Mono Sand Eraser is a must-have for every card I make. I often get ink boo-boos on my cards but never want to start over. I can easily sand and erase away many boo-boos with the Tombow Mono Sand Eraser. Get it. You won’t be sorry! (The one I link to is a bit different – it has the sand on both ends. I show THIS one in the video but use both. But tools work great!)

#4: Pen Blades

I have been using the PenBlades craft knives for quite some time and am very happy with them. I like that they are very sharp, have three tip options, and retract for safety. Another must-have.

#5: Gina K Clear Boxes

Oh. My. Goodness. These boxes are SO helpful! I used to keep my upcoming projects in pouches but they were hard to stack and label. The Gina K Storage Boxes are the perfect solution! There is enough room inside for 8.5×11 cardstock, embellishments, inks, stamps, etc. If you are a project planner like me, you must give them a try. I have 12 boxes with planned projects stacked up! You can also use them for storage. Oh – use a dry erase pens to label them and erase when done. Boom!

I hope these tool ideas are helpful. I have a few more that I will share in another video soon.

I use the larger end of an embossing tool to score the folds in my cards. I have had issues using a scoring board with my fold line always being crooked, so now I use my paper trimmer and the embossing tool and have great success!

  2. Jeanie Mundy says:

I am very grateful for the demo of new products. You help me find solutions to problems j might be having. Thank you!

  4. Linda Meunier says:

I LOVE your videos! My favorite crafty tool would have to be my clear wink of Stella pen. It adds shine and sparkle to any thing!

  5. Mindy R says:

Hi Jennifer! Like a lot of others, I don’t have a recommendation. I use a lot of the supplies you recommend. I always love them! Thank you for always sharing! I a saw the PenBlades on Amy Rysavy’s blog and she mentioned that your recommended these 🙂 . I would love to have these, the Jewel Picker & Darice applicator.

  6. Kathlen says:

Still love the paper piecer or what I like to call the “pokey tool”. Its one of those items that has many uses. Poke a hole, unclog a tip, pick up tiny objects in a pinch.

  7. Annie D says:

I found, in the new Mrs. Sparkle line at Jo-Ann, a wide roll of double-sided tape for 1.99. With a coupon it is half that. One roll lasts longer than any of my tape runner refills, and the tape is an inch wide so I even slice a piece in half long-ways to get double the use!

  8. Stacey Kowbel says:

Thanks for the helpful tool tips! I’ve seen the glue applicator in use recently and that is on my list! The one thing that I love having is the zyron sticker maker. I have a smaller one but would love to get a larger one for some of those delicate embellishments.

  9. Jan Elmore says:

My crafty tool suggestion is a ‘well lit space’. Give yourself a nice work area with lots of light!
Oh…and storage for all our crafting goodies & tools.

  10. Dori says:

My recommendation would be to have some kind of easily accessible craft tool caddy. It doesn’t have to be fancy; but as a crafter, there are a lot of pens, tweezers, craft knives, paper piercers, stylus etc that come with crafting. Having easy access to all those tools can really make a difference!

  11. MelanieS says:

My crafty tool suggestion for organization and storage are re-purposed clear acetate boxes from Organic Mixes in the produce isle. These handy boxes have removable lids with grooves that make them perfect for stacking on a shelf while leaving you a clear view of the contents. I use mine for everything from paints and dyes to markers and pencils. You can also keep all those scrap leftovers from card stocks, papers and foils.

  15. Jody B says:

I always look forward to your tips. Always have my ipad/iPhone close by for inspiration! And I love the stackable embellishment holders, I have one for flowers, one for ribbon and one for embellishments (gems, rhinestones). Makes them easy to find!

I am always amazed at the new products available

I love my Tim Holtz Tonic Scissors, comfortable grip and I don’t worry about using them on plastic or other tough materials, which keeps my other scissors sharp for cutting paper and ribbons. Thanks for the chance to win!

  18. Noreen' says:

I find a stylus is really handy for embossing and scoring, among other things. The Jewelry Picker looks like a really useful tool.

  19. Cyndee says:

I use my Spellbinders brush tool (not sure if that is what it is called) all the time when I diecut to remove the paper from the die and to get rid of the scraps in the die. I really like that it has a pointed tip at the other end and room for more tools inside the barrel.

  20. jmarienelson53 says:

As I am new to card making, I just found out about the burnishing tool to put your ink on and gently rub ink on the edge of the card or edge of flowers, Love it.

  22. Susan Little says:

Thank you for these great ideas. I always wondered which craft knife you were using.

  23. Lesley says:

I would love the jewel picker. My crafty tool is a big roll of paper. I cut it to cover my entire desk. I can write on it any notes whilst watching crafting videos. Ideas I have whilst crafting , testing stamps etc on, markers, paint and ink colors and when it’s full take it off and toss it. You can get huge rolls cheaply at the big box stores. Thanks for the chance to win!

  24. Daria Zender says:

Thanks for a chance to win! Most of my crafty tools are ones that you’ve suggested, so I don’t think I can suggest anything that others haven’t already heard about from you. 😉

  25. Patriciaa says:

I love the mono sand eraser. This is such a godsend to get rid of my ink boo boos. I’m sending my cousin one too. I haven’t tried the pick me upper, but it’s on my to get list. I have tried the Gina K”s storage boxes and love them also. I use them to keep my leftovers from projects I plan to make again.

  26. Sherried says:

My favorite tool are the perfect layer rulers.

  27. Anne says:

Toothpicks! Great for adding a dab of glue and eating chocolates when your hands are too inky to pick them up….

  28. Dolores James says:

I love all of your must haves. I use the EK tweezers for most of my embellishment. I would LOVE the Jewel Picker, it looks so much easier to pick up small embellishments that sometimes my tweezers can’t. Thank you for all you do.

  29. Pamela Ratcliff says:

I think you make have already talked about this but I LOVE the tweezers where you squeeze them to let go. The ones I have have a sharp tip that is very nice for precision grabbing

  30. Bernice James says:

I use the A2 dies from Diaz is to layer my cards. I also must have a sparkle gel pens from sakura.

  31. Sue LD says:

Thanks for sharing more must have tools. I always like your suggestions. I like my Misti and my creative corners.

  32. Kateri says:

Hi Jennifer, I’m not sure I commented before but making sure I did now. I have been wanting the Mono eraser since I saw you use it in a video. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  33. Sheila Weber says:

I use a medium size craft caddy from AMM before the caddies with a magnetic bag came out. So I went to Walmart and purchased a spinner made for spices in a kitchen cabinet and voila I had a spinning craft caddy. It sits right next to my work space and is invaluable. Love your tool tips. Thank you.

  34. Melissa Herndon says:

My favorite tool is my magnetic craft mat. When I am working on card or page layouts, I can see exactly what it is going to look like and i can move pictures and embellishments around. Also, if I get interrupted, I know that my work isn’t going to get blown all over the craft room.

  35. Gail Spence says:

I use so many tools…love yours. I love the MISTI, the Lawn Fawn Chamois cloth to clean stamps, the paper piecer, the Brush tool to remove die cuts from dies, and a big silicone mat.

  36. Joyace says:

There are so many great ideas in this post. I don’t have anything to add but have sure learned a lot. What fantastic ideas.

  37. Elise says:

A must have for me is a fine tip liquid glue and my big pink tape runner! The other must have is the adhesive remover! Wouldn’t leave home without it for any crops!

  38. Rita Wright says:

I love these ideas! I swear half my craft room is Jennifer-inspired. I’m always finding new tools or storage ideas here. I appreciate that you share so much to make our lives more organized and fun. 🙂

  39. Tricia Barber says:

My reverse tweezers are one thing that I could not do without! I just bought a backup pair today. Mine looked a little worn for the wear and I wanted a back up just in a case!

  40. Kim Padan says:

My room is a mess! But I would say my Big Shot, and now my MISTI are used on most of my cards. These tiny “basics” are things I haven’t really used. Time to change that.
I love that jewel picker! I avoid sequence due to some poor fine motor skills. I knew there had to be something that could help. I also like those craft knives…the retraction button is genius!

  41. Deb Pereira says:

I must have my Tim Holtz scissors…always!

  42. Lou says:

I get many of my tool ideas from you but 3 of my “can’t live without” tools are the MISTI, CTMH tweeters and the Ergonomic Teflon Square Bone Folder that I ordered from MFT. Thanks for all your videos Jennifer, I’ve learned so much from you! ?

  43. Karen Page says:

Frustrated with the Clarity Stencil Brushes being sold out all the time when they first came out, I tried economical makeup brushes from Eco Tools on Amazon. At the time I ordered, they were about $1 each. I tried 3 to start; got great results, then got one for every color! They’re now $5.99 each, but still far cheaper than Clarity’s and all the brush sizes are the same, they’re smaller and easier to store, and I like the way they feel in my hand and I have an autoimmune disease that hurts my hands. Also love my non-stick reverse grip tweezers… for bow making, keeping hands glue and ink free, and lining things up without my hands in the way.

  44. Rachelle Arcaro says:

Hi Jennifer! I adore my Misti – that’s the number one crafty tool that I would recommend to anyone.
    Thanks and Blessings,
    Rachelle.

  45. Catherine Dimick says:

I really like my reverse tweezers and I think I really would like a tool like the jewel picker you recommended in this post.

    1. Ruth says:

I really like my tweezers that I saw in your videos. Got one and love it! Makes things easier for me. I would just love these other goodies you are offering. They sound like “stuff” we all need.

  46. Mary Q says:

The Ultrafine Tip applicator seems like just the ticket for applying products to tiny pieces!

  47. C Gee says:

Thanks for the great new tool suggestions.

My favorite tool that I use is the teflon bone folder. It’s not inexpensive, but it is really worth the expense because all my folds are perfect. This doesn’t leave any shiny spots on the fold.

  48. Lindsey L says:

Immediately added almost all of these to my wish list. Especially the eraser…I am forever getting a tiny ink smudgevhere or there usuallybit seems just as I’m completing a project. I always come to you for product recommendations and revisit your lists many times when money allows. The Hero Arts Precision Heat tool you’ve recommended has been a game changer for me. I love it!

  49. Shari says:

There are so many crafting tools I really like, but one of my favorites is the Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Retractable Craft Pick. The teflon bone folder also works so well — so thank you for recommending that in a previous post. Finally, I love the Umbrella Crafts Perfect Clear Stamping Blocks, because the scalloped edges are easy to hold, the etched grid lines are wonderful for aligning the stamped images, and best of all, the 3/4″ thickness makes the blocks so much easier to work with.

  50. Nothing helps me buy a product more than hearing how much other people like it, so thank you so much for this!! My favourite crafty tool would be my small Fiskars scissors. I love them for fussy cutting which I do so much more of now I have these ones!!
