Coloring Challenge + Surprise Spinner Card

Hi! I am back again with some fun sparkle coloring and surprise spinner cards. I am also participating in The 30 Day Coloring Challenge – more info on that below.

I really enjoy stamping a bunch of images and then taking them (along with markers and scissors) on the go. This is a great way to make the best use of my time. Today I used some of those on-the-go-colored-images to create surprise spinner cards.

I got carried away with these cards! I stamped a bunch of adorable Clearly Besotted images and went to town. Clearly Besotted has some of easiest-to-color images in any theme you can imagine. Also, there are many images in a set that can be used together for fun scenes or for simple cards. (I used the Trouble in a Tutu, You’re Purrfect, Cheering for You, Best Friends, Some Birdie Loves You, Cool Dude, Jump for Joy, and Out of This World stamp sets.)

Be sure to watch the video to see all the examples I created. Each card has a simple stamped panel on the front… colored with various colors of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens. (I really like the shimmer of these pens. They are fun to take on the go because you can blend them and get watercolor-like coloring. I will have a color chart for you soon!)

In addition to the cheerleading pandas, I also really like the dancing hippos from the new Clearly Besotted Trouble in a Tutu stamp set. Isn’t she cute?

When you open it up, a ballerina pops up and spins. I created this spinning element by stamping, coloring, and cutting two images and gluing them back-to-back with string between. The string is stretched from the front of the card to the back of the card. So easy! However, to have the two images to put back-to-back, the images need to be mirror images of each other. Therefore I did a mirror stamping technique to get the two hippos. But keep in mind – if an image is symmetrical (like the panda above), you don’t need to do mirror stamping – just stamp it twice.

And for all my kitty-loving friends…

The Clearly Besotted You’re Purrfect Stamp Set is so cute! And this jumping/spinning kitten even warms the heart of this dog-lover. 🙂

Again, be sure to watch the whole video to see all the card examples I created. These are addictive! Oh – and HERE is another video with a similar spinning feature.

As for coloring on the go, I don’t do it much, except when I had surgery and when I go on a trip. I usually read when I’m waiting for something on the go. Thanks for the video and the chance to win.

I watched you clean off that ink so easily and I wondered why mine, using the same ink, is now permanent on my clear stamp? Probably user error LOL! I have taken many of the Online Classes, but there are still some I haven’t done and I would love to win another of those classes. They are the BEST!

  28. Nessy says:

I don’t color on the go at all. I get too distracted with people watching, or conversation. Your spinner cards are the most surprising and fun cards I’ve seen in a long time. Super job.

What sweet, colorful spinner cards. They are all so sweet. I don’t color on the go because I don’t go anywhere.

  43. Isabelle says:

Your cards are lovely. I couldn’t say which one I prefer, they are all adorables.
I don’t do coloring “on the go”. I’ve got two dogs and they come everywhere with me. One of them is an Old English Bulldog, she’s 4 years old (at least on the paper, but she’s thinking she’s only 1) : you can imagine that she requires all my attention. I do my crafting after lunch and at night, when the “little ones” are sleeping. Rainy days are also a great opportunity as they are sure to be in sugar : walking under the rain would be far too dangerous !

  44. Terry B. says:

Cute cards! I don’t color too much on the go, although I took stuff with me to color Christmas cards when I went to stay with my mom this past Christmas.
Thanks for the chance to win an OCC class!

  45. Kelly Kreuer says:

Love this idea of making a spin card. This gives me new eyes at looking at my stamps to figure out which ones I can use to make my own unique spinner card. Thanks for demonstrating these cards. Love them!

  46. Kari V. says:

I love that twirling hippo! I sometimes color on the go, especially if I’m going to be away from my craft room for a while. I take only a few items and I have a mini watercolor traveling set I like.

  47. Irene Grau says:

What cute images! I colored a bunch of things last challenge too, although it took me a while to actually use them on cards (was able to make a bunch of mini-cards for a small class I was teaching — serendipitously, I had images such that I could personalize most of the cards for each student without having to start from scratch for most!) Thanks for the giveaway!

  48. Adorable, I am a cat lover and of course that one speaks to me. I so look forward to Kathy’s challenges as it reminds me to do something I love. I think most people love to color and this just gives you permission…
I bet you get loads of people interested when they see you coloring. Thanks for sharing.

  49. Patty says:

Wow, I just love your cards. Super cute. I don’t usually color on the go.

  50. Candy B says:

I rarely color on the go these days, probably because my kids are all grown up and gone now. But I love to work on something while watching TV at night.
The spinner cards are just so cute. No need to apologize for your video, your videos are always informative and very easy to follow. Love how you like to always teach a technique!
