I really enjoy stamping a bunch of images and then taking them (along with markers and scissors) on the go. This is a great way to make the best use of my time. Today I used some of those on-the-go-colored-images to create surprise spinner cards.

I got carried away with these cards! I stamped a bunch of adorable Clearly Besotted images and went to town. Clearly Besotted has some of easiest-to-color images in any theme you can imagine. Also, there are many images in a set that can be used together for fun scenes or for simple cards. (I used the Trouble in a Tutu, You’re Purrfect, Cheering for You, Best Friends, Some Birdie Loves You, Cool Dude, Jump for Joy, and Out of This World stamp sets.)

Be sure to watch the video to see all the examples I created. Each card has a simple stamped panel on the front… colored with various colors of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens. (I really like the shimmer of these pens. They are fun to take on the go because you can blend them and get watercolor-like coloring. I will have a color chart for you soon!)

In addition to the cheerleading pandas, I also really like the dancing hippos from the new Clearly Besotted Trouble in a Tutu stamp set. Isn’t she cute?

When you open it up, a ballerina pops up and spins. I created this spinning element by stamping, coloring, and cutting two images and gluing them back-to-back with string between. The string is stretched from the front of the card to the back of the card. So easy! However, to have the two images to put back-to-back, the images need to be mirror images of each other. Therefore I did a mirror stamping technique to get the two hippos. But keep in mind – if an image is symmetrical (like the panda above), you don’t need to do mirror stamping – just stamp it twice.

And for all my kitty-loving friends…

The Clearly Besotted You’re Purrfect Stamp Set is so cute! And this jumping/spinning kitten even warms the heart of this dog-lover. 🙂

Again, be sure to watch the whole video to see all the card examples I created. These are addictive! Oh – and HERE is another video with a similar spinning feature.

  1. I love these! Clearly Besotted makes the sweetest images! Thanks for the chance to win!

  2. The video was great. You always do such a great job! Give yourself a pat on the back for accomplishing this! Your work is so inspiring! – and I don’t mean that in an ethereal, metaphorical way. I mean that watching you work actually brings life to my artistic creation and I find myself being more creative for having watched your videos. Thanks for staying positive!

This was a great video!! I think I need to get me some Spectrum Noir Shimmer pens and some cute stamps like the ones you used from Clearly Besotted!! These were great cards!!

  4. Sandy M says:

Such adorable cards, sure to make someone smile! Yes I always bring some crafty items on vacation. For my last trip I brought an adult coloring book, some stamped images, and my Prismacolor pencils.

  5. D.Ann C says:

    These are too stinkin’ cute!
I have to confess something: I used to bookmark your posts in my fav card techniques to try folder – but I had to stop. Now I just know that if I want to try something fun I can just come here and scroll down as every post is something I want to try! Thanks for all the fab inspiration! So many projects, so little time!!!

  6. Becky Partan says:

I color on the go when time allows. But my favorite time to color is when I’m in the backyard, letting my chickens hunt for bugs. I have to supervise them, so I take my coloring supplies and sit at the picnic table. Sometimes they hop up on the bench to check it out. Very relaxing for me. I love all the cards you made, but the hippo is my favorite. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Jeanette says:

I love spinner cards, but I’ve always done them inside of a cutout circle. I will have to try this technique, it looks fun. TFS ☺

  8. Avra says:

My kids are grown, so I don’t have the opportunity to color at dance class, ball games, etc. But I am planning to take supplies with me to color on our Michigan cottage vacation in August, and hope that my daughter will join me!

  9. Deneen says:

Such fun happy cards. Yes I color on the go too. Recently we went camping and I took some pre stamped images and zig markers with me and it worked out great.

  10. Debbie S. says:

No, my child is all grown up. I wish I would have done this when I was in the carpool line.

No, I do not color on the go. Usually have to many things on the go.
    Those cards are so cute.

  12. Jo Ann D. says:

I am an table tray, airplane colorer, like Kathy. I usually take watercolors and pre stamped cardstock because they tend to take up the least amount of space in my carryon luggage. I use the overhead air vent to help speed dry each section. I have been known to accidentally clean my paintbrush in my diet coke on more than one occasion!!! 🙂

  13. Judy Schaub says:

Absolutely adorable! Perfect for kids of all ages.

  14. Teddra says:

I have colored and created on the go years ago when I had to be away for long business trips but not recently. It’s a great idea I should use more often!

Your cards are so cute Jennifer. I have not done any coloring on the go yet I think I might have to give it a try.

  24. Michelle O. says:

Coloring on the go is a GREAT idea! I also tend to do it on evenings, as things are calming down. Great way to “zone out” at the end of the day 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!!

I bring stuff to color on my breaks at lunch, and when catching up on myDVR Shows I grab what I need from my scraproom and color away, that way when Binge watching a Netflix series I feel like I did not totally wate those hours away! Cute idea for cards going to try the spinners for kids birthdays

  42. Susan Lang says:

I have not colored on the go. Being retired, I seem to have time to do this at my desk and when I am on the go, I have fun with just that! Love the spinning cards . . .

  43. Donna Grundhausr says:

I do work anytime there is a few minutes-I have a small plastic folder and have coloring and zentangle in it along with a few pens. It doesn’t take extra room in my purse and I love how it lets me relax !!

  44. Amante del Papel says:

look so funny and so pretty, love it!!!

  45. Hi! I color on the go in the car during my lunch at work. I work in retail and need that alone time! Question: has anyone else had the white Nuvo drops turn yellow on their card? I tried the shadow ink technique (with dark red) you posted yesterday. Don’t know if it’s humidity, the dye or unicorn white ink or what. I tried my shimmer pen instead of perfect pearls, because I only have pearl ex, which I am guessing won’t stick…. Beware, that pen reactivates the pigment ink! Anyway, dropped on some tiny drops and they turned yellow! Fortunately, I was able to pick off with a craft knife. I heatset the normal way too, Anyone else have this happen???? Thanks!

  46. Mary Webster says:

I like to be able to take things on the go. Time is valuable, so it pays to make the most of it. Great work!
