Surprise Slider Cards

Hello there! I am not sure there is anything more fun to create than a card with a surprise. Well… today I show how to create a surprise slider card…

Nothing is more fun than an interactive card! Especially when it includes a surprise. Today I used the new My Favorite Things Twice The Wishes Kit to create surprise slider cards, but you could create the elements by hand.

For the first card, I created a one-tier cake. But when you pull on the little tab on the top of the card, a second tier is revealed!

Isn’t that fun??

I created the cake using the dies in the My Favorite Things Twice The Wishes Kit, and heat embossed the sentiments from the kit’s stamp set. I decorated the cake with Nuvo White Crystal Dots and Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pens. (Those Nuvo White Crystal Dots are great for quick, inexpensive, dimensional accents!)

My second card is a variation of the first. This time, when you pull on the tab, a cute little bear pops out!

The bear is from the My Favorite Things Beary Special Birthday Stamp Set.

Be sure to watch the video to see how these were put together using the My Favorite Things Twice The Wishes Kit. However – again – you can make these elements on your own, but the kit does make it easy!

I’ve only done 3 -4 interactive card. They’re a lot of fun, but I just don’t think to make them that often. I actually have not made a slider card….I keep procrastinating on buying the die pieces to make them.

to get away from a plain square card.

I’ve done many interactive cards over the year and they always get great reactions! I taught an interactive card class at a local store years ago and while it was the best received card I taught, it was also the most challenging one from a teaching point of view because there are many important measurements and steps in order for the card to work properly – and most importantly, adhesive has to be applied in just the right spots! Not easy to get it right on the very first try, but the look of pure glee on the participants’ face once they were done and their cards were working was worth the extra effort. 🙂

  15. Amy O says:

I did a spinner card once upon a time 🙂

I love making interactive cards!! However, I’ve only made simple slider cards. Your card is absolutely darling!! MFT has come up with such an innovative kit!! I’m bummed that the kit is already sold out. I’ll just have to wait for the individual release to get the dies. 🙂

  24. Jan Elmore says:

The most interactive I’ve ever gotten to is a gate fold card with confetti that falls on the floor! I need to step it up!

  25. Jennifer, your cards are always adorable and unique. It seems so easy to make how you explain, but i know it would take like 2 hrs to put it together still 🙂 i want to try this slider card even without the kit (which sold out unfortunately in12hrs i guess). Thanks for the continuous inspiration you provide for us! You are simply the best! Hugs from Hungary, Zsofi

  26. Judie Fralick says:

Love both of the cards! I have been stamping and making cards for over 20 years and have never made a slider card. I think I always thought it would be hard to do, but you made it look SO easy. I really love the cake kit. Thank you for a wonderful video.

  35. Angelique Vela says:

Love your cards and, yes I have created interactive cards and continue to do so when it strikes my fancy!

  36. Sibylle Jäkel says:

    Hi,Jennifer,
    Ilove your interactive cards.
I only made a few doubleslider cards, but this is a great idea.
I also tried to make two sliders to come together when pulling instead of going in different directions(if you know what I mean..) just like a window which can open and close its wings in front of a card, not hidden…

  37. Monika/buzsy says:

Fantastic slider cards Jennifer. Especially love the little bear coming out of the cake. SWEET! Love the slider dies… they make it so much easier to make an interactive card. Thanks for the video!

  38. smlittler says:

I love making interactive cards for kids. I just made two spinner cards recently and I’m going to make a slider card soon!

  39. Since most of my cards go to charity I haven’t done an interactive card. Believe me I would love to. I have started shakers for family. One day all my crafting dreams/goals will come true.

  40. Terri C. says:

These cards are adorable! I have only attempted spinner cards – which I had never tried until I saw Jennifer’s video on how she made them – the Christmas Tree one!

  41. Mutzy Mia says:

Yes I have created interactive cards…a few, but was always rewarding when they were done. It is so helpful to have the dies specific for the interactive card. You make it look so easy. I should do it more so it becomes easy for me too. Thanks for sharing and darling cards.

  42. Mary Ann P. says:

I’ve made a shaker card (not sure if that counts as interactive). It was a little baby that “danced” (rocked back & forth) when you shook the card. I love this pop-up action card – can’t wait to try it!

  43. Jennifer Hovermale says:

These are absolutely adorable!! What a great way to use MFT dies!! Very ingenious!!! Yes, I have made several interactive cards. I made on that flipped around vertically. It was attached to a skewer, so you see both sides. I have also made different Fancy Fold cards that popped up or slide. I made another one which folded out. I enjoy making them for my very close family, because many are very time-consuming, as well as bulky for mailing. Most times, I end up hand delivering.

  44. The only interactive cards I’ve made are shaker cards. These slider cards intimidate me a bit but I might just be inspired now to try one out, thank you!!

  45. Marta says:

Neat cards! I always learn something new in your videos. I have yet to make an interactive card…

  46. WANDA C. says:

These are very sweet. Though the dies obviously make it easier, I like that you mentioned that it could be done without dies. I have not yet made an interactive card, but this inspires me to do so. Love your videos, Jennifer. Thanks.

  47. Jo Ann D. says:

The only interactive cards that I have made are the spinner cards. I also made a slide card when Kelly taught it to us as the Simon Says Stamp classes last October.

  48. Carolee McCaslin says:

Yes I love to make interactive cards but this kit makes it so easy:) Wish it wasn’t already sold out:(

  49. Caitlin Rebecca says:

Love your cards!!! Interactive cards are so fun to make and always put a smile on my face:)

  50. Ashlee Diane says:

Oh yes I really like making interactive cards and especially seeing the persons face when they open up my card:)
