Surprise Slider Cards

Hello there! I am not sure there is anything more fun to create than a card with a surprise. Well… today I show how to create a surprise slider card…

Nothing is more fun than an interactive card! Especially when it includes a surprise. Today I used the new My Favorite Things Twice The Wishes Kit to create surprise slider cards, but you could create the elements by hand.

For the first card, I created a one-tier cake. But when you pull on the little tab on the top of the card, a second tier is revealed!

Isn’t that fun??

I created the cake using the dies in the My Favorite Things Twice The Wishes Kit, and heat embossed the sentiments from the kit’s stamp set. I decorated the cake with Nuvo White Crystal Dots and Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pens. (Those Nuvo White Crystal Dots are great for quick, inexpensive, dimensional accents!)

My second card is a variation of the first. This time, when you pull on the tab, a cute little bear pops out!

The bear is from the My Favorite Things Beary Special Birthday Stamp Set.

Be sure to watch the video to see how these were put together using the My Favorite Things Twice The Wishes Kit. However – again – you can make these elements on your own, but the kit does make it easy!

I made a pop-up card at a Scrapbook Convention. I bought the templet, but have never used it. I think the die would be much easier. Thanks for always telling us how to make the card without buying the kit. It’s nice to have different ways to accomplish these wonderful ideas.

  2. Yes, I’ve made one interactive card for my mom for Mother’s Day one year. It was a bouquet of flowers that pulled up out of a pot!

I just attempted my first butterfly spinner card. I’m not quite sure how I want to finish it off. I’m going to search through different ideas from all of the wonderful card makers like yourself to see how you all have done it.I have the hard part done. I’m not sure what sentiment to use for the card either. I will try the slider cards once I have a little more experience.

Very helpful to see how the slider cards are put together. I was disappointed, though, to see that the kit was sold out, and could not find the cake components separately. I’m sure there are other slider dies available, or like you said, use a craft knife to cut out your own slots.

I love this technique you showed with the “Interactive Birthday Cake Die-namics”. I would have never thought it would be that easy to make an interactive card. I once tried a butterfly spinner card and it didn’t come out as bad as I expected. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

  44. merryf says:

Wow, this is amazing! When I was a kid back in the mid-1970s Hallmark had pop-up hard-cover books that had sliders like this. I always tried to figure it out. Now I can make it myself! I’ve made interactive cards where you rip off a strip to reveal a sentiment underneath, and of course shaker cards, and now I’m really eager to try this. This tutorial is so very helpful, and I’m going to try to put something together with the supplies I have on hand. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

  45. Margaret says:

I’ve never tried making interactive cards before but I plan to make some soon. 😀
