Video: Glitter Die Cuts

Hello, stampers. Today’s card shows how fast and not-so-messy creating glitter die cuts can be. Yes – you heard me right. 🙂

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post.]

Yes, it is possible to easily create a subtle, smooth glittery card without creating a mess! Just grab a piece of double sided tape (my favorite is Be Creative) and add it to a piece of white cardstock. Grab any die – those with lots of detail and cut-out areas work best, such as this SSS Butterfly Drift die. Put the die face down on the adhesive-covered cardstock and run it through any die cut machine as normal. Next, start to peel away the die cut release paper – one area at a time. Add a bit of your favorite glitter (my favorite is Glitter Ritz since it is subtle, smooth, and velvety) and burnish it in place with a bone folder.

At this point, glitter may be everywhere! No worries. Just cut a small piece from a Swiffer Dusting Cloth (disposable and inexpensive) and wipe it all away. It works magically. Continue to remove additional areas of release paper and add more glitter, cleaning each time. Once done, add the piece to your card and heat emboss a “thinking of you” message with Liquid Platinum embossing powder. Done!

ENABLING

In my videos I use the Big Shot for my die cutting. In real life, I use the Vagabond because it is amazing and cuts through things like butter. I love it. In fact, I love it so much that it is built in to my cabinet, and therefore isn’t in my videos. I recently saw that Amazon has a great deal on the Vagabond so I thought I would give you the heads up. It is only $149! And shipping is free if you have Prime. Great deal!

Enjoy!

  1. You are magic! Another great instructional video. Have to wait now for SSS to get that die back in. I knew it would be sold out as you used it awhile ago. I’m sure the whole paper crafting world follows you and looks forward to your tuts. You are so clear and make it look so achievable!

  2. That video from Sandy was hilarious – so glad you shared it!

Gorgeous, glittery butterflies! Leave to your clever brain to come up with the swiffer dusting cloth for glitter clean-up – love it!

  3. you make it look so easy, Jennifer, love the wonderful glitter butterflies. I want to try this but I’m still a bit apprehensive, lol. Excuse me, I think I’ll go search for my courage ……

  4. Wow this is fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing your techniques! 🙂 I can’t wait to give this a go. Whoo!

  5. Very pretty card! I love how you tamed the glitter! LOL! I did check out Sandy’s video too…very funny!

  6. Beautiful, adds such pizazz to the card but keeps it;s elegance 🙂
I keep thinking of “procuring” the Vagabond – maybe now’s the time – LOL

    Thank you 🙂

  7. Jennifer, this card is gorgeous. I agree, the Swiffer cloths work like a charm to clean up the inevitable mess of glitter and embossing powders. The colored glitters are gorgeous but I am limited by storage and budget issues. Frequently, I use clear or white glitter (Glitter Ritz White and Transparents are my favorites) and color it with my Copics. Lucky for me, I purchased those before retiring! 🙂

  8. Lovely card! Love this technique and how you pulled up each piece of adhesive separately to use multiple glitter colors – pretty!

  9. Really beautiful! Loved the video too. Thanks for the great ideas. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

  10. The card turned out beautifully. I think you could be an Aussie…… when you write ‘No worries’….. just need to add ‘mate’ on the end. Love your videos, but also your written instructions are great too.

  11. Love your card and the technique. Was wondering if you realized that emails for your blog posts have ended? They have for most of the blogs I follow and only a couple of others have switched to another provider. Hope I’m not missing much!

  12. Beautiful card! I love how there’s an outline to the butterflies. Such a beautiful way to use the die.

  13. Jen, your a jewel !! Can always count on you and love the technique on this card. Videos that you do are always so perfect. Thank You ! Also, I want to thank you (if you read this) for mentioning why you do not show use of Vagabond. I have been wondering why most of the professionals always show using the Big Shot. I have both, but use Vagabond and so far no problems ever. Thanks again! Blessings to you and your family!

  14. Love your card and thanks for the video and tips. Thanks for the tip about the Swiffer cloth. I would much rather use it for this type of clean up as opposed to it’s intended purpose!!!! 🙂

  15. GORGEOUS card and FABULOUS video – THANK YOU!!!
I LOVE glitter and you have given me yet another, and even more beautiful, way to create with it 🙂

  16. This card is beautiful! I love butterflies and the glitter really adds to them. The color combination is just perfect. Thanks for the video so you can see the process.

  17. Jennifer Thank you for so much inspiration I have a friend that loves butterflies and every year I try to come up with different ideas for her birthday cards.
Could you please let me know how do you get that fine edge to peal away to make the glitter edge?
I have all the craft supplies to make and hopefully look as beautiful as yours.
To one Christian from another. God Bless you
