I have been wanting to try to make a slider card for some time now. However, I wanted to do so without seeing the slider “track” element. After playing around I was able to figure it out!

But please – if you have never done a slider card, I encourage you to check out the first several minutes of THIS fabulous video by Kelly Marie Alvarez of Lawn Fawn. She is the expert at these designs and the video makes it very easy to understand. I am taking those instructions and stepping them up a bit to hide the track.

I just had to use the newย  Lawn Fawn Bicycle Built For You Stamp Set since Kelly said the little girl reminded her of Lila. ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree! I stamped, copic-colored, and die cut the bike, girl, and dog elements and glued them together to be one piece. You can’t see in the photo, but I used a trick to make the bike slide without seeing the slider track. Be sure to watch the video to see how! The Lawn Fawn Slide On Over die set is fantastically helpful in creating slider tracks, but you could also cut your own track with a craft knife.

By tilting the card, the bike moves left to right. And you can’t see the track!

The clouds are from the older Lawn Fawn Yay Kites Stamp Set… and I used the gorgeous new Lawn Fawn Minty Fresh Dye Ink. (More on that below.) I die cut the grass with the Lawn Fawn Grassy Border Die.

For a variation of the same idea, I created a pull-tab card. Honestly, I prefer the pull-tab as it is clearer to the recipient how it works and you can add a hidden sentiment.

And when you pull the tab…

I couldn’t get over how cute the new Lawn Fawn Out of This World Stamp Set is so I had to make a card with it, too. I did a very similar design but put the slider at an angle. I also used a piece of acetate to help move the spaceboy side to side without see the track. It worked great!

The acetate piece allows the boy to look like he is floating.

INK SWATCH DOWNLOAD

I am a fan of Lawn Fawn’s Dye Inks. They dry quickly and smooth out a bit to give a solid image after some time. And they really don’t stain stamps much! They have recently added a few more colors (Minty Fresh,ย Ballet Slippers,ย Grape Soda, Peachy Keen, and Bubblegum) and now have 38 colored inks (plus the Yeti White Pigment Ink and the Jet Black Copic-friendly ink). Many are available now in cubes, too. For a closer look at the colors and how they compare, check out the video above. I find this is better than showing photos here.

In the video I also show my Ink Swatch Book. For the free Ink Swatch Download for the Lawn Fawn Inks โ€“ just click HERE. (You can find the Lawn Fawn inks HERE and learn more about them in THIS video.)

I have a couple of plain slider dies, and love the results. For the card that I made, I used a dinosaur as the sliding element for a 7 year old who delighted in receiving his card. The dino slid out from a palm tree!! Unfortunately, I lost most of my 2016 files when I switched to a new computer, so am unable to show how cute the card was!! Thank you for so many tips and hints on how to make better sliders! Love the “stilt” idea!!

  20. Karen Ramos says:

I like these interactive cards. They seem so fussy to make but you make it look so simple, of course the dies will surely help! I’ve made a few pull tabs, double pull tabs, and sliders before. I usually make them for birthdays for kids, they really really enjoy it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for featuring the stamps, the Out of This World stamp and die set is my favorite!

  21. karenladd says:

Wow Jennifer, these cards are so fun!! I’ll have to watch the video more carefully to see how you tweaked this slider element but this is something I need to try some day. I’ve never made a slider card, and don’t usually make interactive designs…but these are the BEST!

Hi Jennifer! Thank you for sharing card ideas, tips & techniques.
Yes, I have made a few slider cards- but like you I wasn’t a fan of seeing the slide – so I was delighted to see your tutorial ๐Ÿ™‚
Love lawn fawn & would be fun to win!
    Enjoy your day!
    Darlene ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. NANCY DONAYRE-PUN says:

Beautiful cards! No, I haven’t made a slider card or a pull -tab for that matter :0. It is kind of intimidating yet even though you make it look so easy ๐Ÿ™‚ But, I will try and see how that comes out.

  34. Lisa Silver says:

Adorable cards! I have made a slider card, but I think a pull tab may be in my future!

  35. Karen S. says:

I’ve made slider cards in the past, straight and circular. I like the curves die, and so much easier than trying to cut them neatly. Great idea of the girl riding the bike with the dog in the basket.

  36. Mombart says:

I have made slider cards but not as nice as yours. Gorgeous cards!

  37. Heather Levi says:

Aww these are so cute! I have never made a slider or pull card yet. They always seemed intimidating, but not so much after this video! Thank you.

  38. Such a great idea to hide the track! Love the cards you pulled together here, too. I made a penny slider card for my sister-in-law’s birthday last year. I had the hardest timeafter she opened it trying to explain to her how to make the balloon slide! It slid from top to bottom, so I’m not sure if that made it less apparent. She finally got it working, and then kept at it. LOL I think I like the idea of a pull card better, though, especially since you can write “Pull” on the end of the tab and give some direction that way. Plus, it’s cheaper, since you don’t need to use a coin! (That’s my Scottish blood talking. LOL) Thanks so much for sharing these, Jennifer, and the great giveaway! ๐Ÿ™‚ ~ Andrea

  39. leeanne says:

Such fun and adorable cards! I have made a slider card with LF penguins sledding down a hill, but haven’t made a slider card where an image slides behind something. Very cool! And what a clever idea to use acetate! You are brilliant! Thanks for sharing your creativity!

  40. Barbara says:

Don’t recall making a slider but maybe a pull tab. Cute cards and thanks for sharing technique.

  41. Tanja Gross says:

Those cards are amazing. I have not done a slider or pullout card yet. After watching your video it didn’t seem so intimidating.

  42. susie sonnier says:

I have made both, but you are GENIUS! Love the idea of hiding the track!

  43. barbara lassiter says:

Very cute, Jennifer. I have made one slider card and one pull tab card way in the past! Maybe i need to repeat the process! ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. Brenda says:

I’ve never made a slider card, but I’m thinking I need to try. I have some cute farm animal stamps that would be really fun…and I have the grass die…hmmm

  45. Sybrina K says:

Jennifer, What a great idea to use acetate with the little space man! Yes, I played with sliders and pull cards during the OCC Wild Card Class. Think I need to make a few more of these for my next SAS4Kids box of cards. ๐Ÿ™‚

  46. jlt301 says:

I love making slider cards and have several slider dies from MFT and Lawn Fawn. Your video takes it up a notch! Thanks!

  47. JaMiro says:

I have made a slider type spinner card–it didn’t spin; it just slid across. And I may have made a pull tab type card a long time ago….don’t remember. (I have a hard enough time just coming up with a design and time to do it without over complicating the process. Lol)

  48. Patty Eifert says:

Awesome video Jennifer!! Slider card elements can be very confusing.,..but you show & explain the whole process so well! I won’t say that I would be able to create a slider card just by watching your video once without fail…but after watching it several times & having all the components in front of me…I might be able to pull it off! And I would definitely want to hide the slider elements like you do! I would probably only try this for a special someone, as trying to recreate this for a caring card drive or charity with multiple card needs would only slow me down!! Thank you so much for the very detailed explanation !!

  49. Teresa Doyle says:

These are so adorable. I love making inter active cards, sliders, pull-tabs, spinners, magic cards & tear away’s. It seems the more challenging, the more inspired I am! LOL

  50. Cindy Reynoso says:

Hi! I have made slider cards before, but using the acetate to make the astronaut look like he’s floating is such a great idea. You are always thinking outside the box! Love that! Thank you, once again, for more inspiration and another great video!
