Hello! Today I thought I would share how to make slider and pull tab cards with hidden tracks. It makes for a fun surprise!

I have been wanting to try to make a slider card for some time now. However, I wanted to do so without seeing the slider “track” element. After playing around I was able to figure it out!

But please – if you have never done a slider card, I encourage you to check out the first several minutes of THIS fabulous video by Kelly Marie Alvarez of Lawn Fawn. She is the expert at these designs and the video makes it very easy to understand. I am taking those instructions and stepping them up a bit to hide the track.

I just had to use the new  Lawn Fawn Bicycle Built For You Stamp Set since Kelly said the little girl reminded her of Lila. 🙂 I agree! I stamped, copic-colored, and die cut the bike, girl, and dog elements and glued them together to be one piece. You can’t see in the photo, but I used a trick to make the bike slide without seeing the slider track. Be sure to watch the video to see how! The Lawn Fawn Slide On Over die set is fantastically helpful in creating slider tracks, but you could also cut your own track with a craft knife.

By tilting the card, the bike moves left to right. And you can’t see the track!

The clouds are from the older Lawn Fawn Yay Kites Stamp Set… and I used the gorgeous new Lawn Fawn Minty Fresh Dye Ink. (More on that below.) I die cut the grass with the Lawn Fawn Grassy Border Die.

For a variation of the same idea, I created a pull-tab card. Honestly, I prefer the pull-tab as it is clearer to the recipient how it works and you can add a hidden sentiment.

And when you pull the tab…

I couldn’t get over how cute the new Lawn Fawn Out of This World Stamp Set is so I had to make a card with it, too. I did a very similar design but put the slider at an angle. I also used a piece of acetate to help move the spaceboy side to side without see the track. It worked great!

The acetate piece allows the boy to look like he is floating.

INK SWATCH DOWNLOAD

I am a fan of Lawn Fawn’s Dye Inks. They dry quickly and smooth out a bit to give a solid image after some time. And they really don’t stain stamps much! They have recently added a few more colors (Minty Fresh, Ballet Slippers, Grape Soda, Peachy Keen, and Bubblegum) and now have 38 colored inks (plus the Yeti White Pigment Ink and the Jet Black Copic-friendly ink). Many are available now in cubes, too. For a closer look at the colors and how they compare, check out the video above. I find this is better than showing photos here.

In the video I also show my Ink Swatch Book. For the free Ink Swatch Download for the Lawn Fawn Inks – just click HERE. (You can find the Lawn Fawn inks HERE and learn more about them in THIS video.)

I’ve not done a slider card as of yet. I’m truly not sure that any of the folks I make cards for would appreciate the effort. Oh, they appreciate the cards, they just have no concept of the work that goes into them, and they’re not the kind of folks who even keep the cards. When I find someone who would appreciate a masterpiece, I will try a slider card 😉 LOL

Yes I did make a slider card once of a golf cart running into a lake for an avid golfers birthday! I watched the video by Kelly and was so inspired ! I then watched her cute video for the new ‘How you bean?’ stamp set. & thought they would be cute for Easter cards. I placed the order for stamp & dies & pretty plaid paper pads & completely forgot the slider die set.. Sure wish they offered free shipping on orders over $50. It would be wonderful to win a stamp set, I have 2 great grandsons with birthdays coming up in June & August that would get a kick out of the little space guy in “Out of This World” ! Thank You so much for your videos, so much fun to watch & create confidence that “I can do it too!”

All three cards are AMAZING! I once did a pull-tab card (hidden mushroom unders the leaves) and it was tough because I was doing it using just scissors and a slight understanding how it should work 😀 but I enjoyed it for sure! ^.^

  48. Lisa says:

I have made a few sliders before, during OCC Wild Card :). I have now finally got the border dies that match the slider dies so that I can make more. And I have a bunch of images to colour in the 30 day colouring challenge that I will use to make them! Love it when it comes together (it’s not often haha). Great video, I also like the hidden mechanism, I felt sometimes seeing the slider tracks could spoil the look of a card a little…

  49. Kim says:

I’ve made a few pull tab cards – love to make interactive cards. I feel that they are mote “bang for the buck” since I am taking the time to hand make a card, might as well make a cool, unique one!

Wow! Lovely interactive cards! I’ve recently tried my hands on slider by making a slider and spinner ATC 🙂 You cards inspire me to make more of such cute ones 🙂 Thank you for the video and the giveaway, would love to win!
