Real Color Brush Pens + Gift Card Pockets

Hello! Today I am sharing a bit of coloring with real color brush pens… along with a few gift card pocket card designs.

Awhile back, I shared a few videos showing a closer look at Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens (SSS | EH | AZ) and the many ways you could use them. (Find the videos HERE.) I received many requests to do a follow up video, but this time I thought I would again use the Arteza Watecolor Real Brush Pens (SSS | AZ). (I also used them in THIS video.) These markers are similar in many ways but have a lower price point. In the video I share more info on this. Both are great products and the colors compliment each other nicely!

My first card example shows using the Arteza Watecolor Real Brush Pens (SSS | AZ) and an Arteza Water Brush Pen (SSS | AZ) to watercolor a Pink and Main Christmas Mug (SSS | P&M) image. I have found that I like to watercolor images that are heat embossed, so I decided to clear heat emboss on Koh-i-noor Bristol Cardstock. You can use Arteza Watecolor Real Brush Pens (SSS | AZ) on a variety of cardstocks, but I find the color moves best on watercolor paper or Bristol Cardstock, which I used today. In the past I would get frustrated that most bristol cardstocks are not white, but I found that the Koh-i-noor Bristol Cardstock is! So that is what I used today for the cup of hot chocolate.

For the background of my card, I layered the die cut layers of the Pink and Main Layered Stripes Dies (SSS | P&M). I skipped the adhesive in some areas so I could create a pocket for a gift card! Works perfectly. I added a sentiment strip with a greeting from the Pretty Pink Posh Holiday Greetings Stamp Set (SSS | EH).

My next card also shows another way to create a card that holds a gift card. All you need is a cardstock piece and foam tape! Works great. (Check the video for the how-to.) This cute cup is also from the Pink and Main Christmas Mugs Stamp Set (SSS | P&M). This time I blended the Arteza Watecolor Real Brush Pens (SSS | AZ) with a Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen instead of water. This gives it lots of shine. The sentiment is again from the Pretty Pink Posh Holiday Greetings Stamp Set (SSS | EH) and I used the leftover background pieces from the first card to create this background.

My next card also holds a gift card… but this time tucked behind a circle die cut.

I can’t get enough of the Pink and Main Layered Stripes Dies (SSS | P&M)! Here is used it with white cardstock and silver shimmer cardstock. So pretty! And the sentiment is from the Pretty Pink Posh Winter Wonderland Stamp Set (SSS | EH).

These next two cards showcase images from the Pink and Main Nice List (SSS | P&M) and Warm Hugs Stamp Sets (SSS | P&M).

I added Black Nuvo Drops to the eyes of this cutie penguin. The sentiment is from the Pink Posh Winter Wonderland Stamp Set (SSS | EH). That background is fun in red and white!

I can’t get over how cute that Santa from the Pink and Main Nice List Stamp Set (SSS | P&M) is! The sentiment is from Pretty Pink Posh Holiday Greetings Stamp Set (SSS | EH) and I added Honey Bee Snowballs to his hat. 🙂

I also made a few tags using the Pink and Main Winter Portraits Stamp Set (SSS | P&M) and Studio Katia Dotted Shaker Tag Die. Lila and I had fun coloring these and adding shimmer with the Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pens. The first tag also has a glitter bow made with the Pink and Main Small Bow Die (SSS | P&M).

I really like how unique all of these Pink and Main sets are! And finally, a cutie penguin from the Pink and Main Warm Hugs Stamp Set (SSS | P&M) with Honey Bee Snowballs on her ear muffs…

  1. I think these cards are great. I like your ideas a lot . I plan to do some tags for gifts. Adds a personal touch to any gift.

  2. Your are one of my favourite paper artists I follow and I think your videos are so well done. These cards and tags are outstanding as usual with the bonus that the cards can also be made for gift cards.

  3. You are one of the best card makers on the planet! God gave you a talent and boy are you using it.
I love what you made for a gift card! That would work if you just wanted to put money in the card too. My mom was looking for something like that but I don’t have a die cutter so I can’t make any of your cards. She was complaining that gift cards are so expensive, that you put money or a gift card in them, you don’t want to spend a lot of money on the card too. I’d like to make tags for my gifts but we have so many store bought tags that I kind of want to use them up first. Thanks for showing us your cards. I love them all!

  4. So much great information. These markers need to go onto my wish list for sure. I love the gift card holder ideas, I’m always looking for different ways of giving gift cards. Thanks for another fun and informative video.

  5. The snowballs on Santa’s hat are the tiniest and cutest I’ve seen. I finally finished and mailed off 50 hand made cards, and will now take time to play with some of your recent ideas. TY so much for inspiring us.

  6. There is now a 96 color set, and the pens have color names and numbers on them. Just got my 96 set yesterday.

  7. Hi Jennifer – love the video on these pens. I bought the 24 pack from Amazon and each pen does have the color name and number on it. The back of the box also lists the names and numbers. Weird that the 48 pack doesn’t.
Really enjoy your posts and videos!

  8. Hi Jennifer, I hope this post is not too old for you to see my comment. i put it under Zig Real Brush pens because my question relates. I have found almost nothing on the net that talks about the (new?) “Zig Brushables”. These are the zig markers that are similar to the chameleon pencils, that you have demo’d in the past. They have a real brush on both ends. One end contains a full strength color, the other end contains a 50% tint
Do you think you could do a video on using these for coloring? they are quite intriguing and yet I’ve seen very little online that talks about more than color comparison

obviously I am a huge fan and I hope to hear from you either directly or through your blog.
    Be well!

  10. Love your videos on the Zig real color brush pens. I do have a couple of questions. !) if the brush end gets damaged can you buy replacements? 2) I have seen Zig Real brush pens and Zig Real brush markers – are they different items and how are they different? Thank you.
