Video: Double Die Cutting + BIG Giveaway!

Good morning! Yesterday, I shared on Instagram a photo of Thanksgiving place settings I made as a gift. Many people asked if I had a video showing them, so here it is! I think you might like the double die cutting technique…

So a teacher at my son’s school asked me for ideas for making place settings for her Thanksgiving dinner of 40. Me – being who I am – I decided to make them for her as a gift. I think teachers do SO much and get too little recognition. So if this makes her feel appreciated, then the time spent making them was well worth it!

I used the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Grand Maple Die to cut 80 total leaves from Gina K Fresh Asparagus, Honey Mustard, and Cranberry Tart cardstocks… and wood paper. I then double die cut half of the leaves to make them smaller/shorter… simply by shifting the die slightly and cutting again. This is a great technique for getting the most out of your die cuts.

I then gold-glitter heat embossed a mix of sentiments on the smaller leaves. (I used sentiments from the Winnie and Walter Happiest of Holidays, Reverse Confetti Walk by Faith, Lil Inker Designs Leafy Greetings, and Hero Arts Joyful Thanksgiving sets.) The MISTI stamping tool is very helpful when doing this! Finally, I used an Ink Blending Tool to quickly add a bit of matching Distress Ink to the edges.

I also used the MISTI and it’s magnets to hold the leaves while I added a twine and ribbon bow. Worked like a charm!

My favorite was a tag that opened to a star ornament a few years ago…now that you reminded me gonna create a few this holiday to add a special touch to my gifts. Excited for chance to win, thanks

    thanks for the tip.
    The leaves are beautiful.
I’m sure the teacher was thrilled with her gift.

I have made decorations for holiday parties and other parties as well. One year I made 120 die cut teacups to use as the favors for the Civic Club High Tea. I’m often asked to make favors for different events that require favors. I enjoy doing it.

Making decorations are a large part of my holiday preparations. It goes back to when my son was small and we did something special for each holiday. He has carried on the tradition with his own son.

  8. I Love watching your videos. How kind of you to make these for the teacher. You helped me reawaken my creative spirit when I was laid off in January and I have followed you ever since. I now thinkI might modify this a bit and use these as a card, just write a little note on the back. Great idea.
