The holidays are approaching and I give a lot of gift cards as gifts. However, I like to present them in ways that are a fun, thoughtful, and different.

And isn’t this My Favorite Things Hot Cocoa Cups die set so fun? After using it to cut from cardstock, I applied color to the edges with a coordinating color of Distress Ink. I think it makes a big difference to add ink to the edges. However, for white die cuts (like the whip cream) I add a light gray Copic Marker (C0 or C00) to the edges. I also die cut a white square from the My Favorite Things Pierced Square die set and stamped a sentiment from the Toasty Greetings stamp set using black ink. After adhering the die cuts to the white square, I applied three strips of foam tape to the back, creating a pocket for the gift card to slip into.

I finished the card off by adhering some die cut marshmallows on top of the whip cream and adding Distress Stickles on top to resemble sugar. For the background, I used a We R Memory Keepers Next Level Embossing Folder with some Hero Arts kraft cardstock. I like to lightly swipe white pigment ink over the raised areas of embossed backgrounds to create highlights and intensify the dimension.

You could combine any die cuts together and form a pocket behind it to create a gift card holder. Great for the holidays!

CHALLENGE UPDATE

I plan to give this card to my mail lady as part of the Share Handmade Kindness Challenge. This week focuses on sharing kindness to those who work/serve in the community and I thought this card would be perfect for that. It’s a great way to show some appreciation.

Yes I give gift cards! My adult children and their spouses are IMPOSSIBLE to buy for. With a gift card they can get EXACTLY what they want!

  2. SarahC says:

Love the card so they have something to enjoy after using the gift card. I use both gift cards and real gifts depending on the person. If they are distant or hard to buy for I use a gift card. It just depends. For a lot of older folks who have all they need gift cards for meals or groceries are useful. Really like this Kindness Campaign. Keep up the good work.

I tend to avoid gift cards. It is easy for me as I don’t have children and all of my friends (short list) get personalized gifts. Now not to say that I have never given one I just think it is better to give a gift instead of giving them a card, I feel like it is almost like giving them another errand.

Hello, Jennifer! You are my new favorite card maker and blogger and teacher and inspiration! I’ve shared so many of your videos with my card making friends. I so appreciate all that you share. You are a blessing. I do give gift cards, but only really because my children and grandchildren live in Florida and I don’t know what size they are or what they’d like. I do make it creatively personal, though, by making a cute gift card holder out of card stock and my grandsons love them ! It warms my heart to think of the smiles they have when they open them. My 5 year old grandson even slept with the card and wallet I made him! Thanks again for sharing your talents and gifts with us.
