The holidays are approaching and I give a lot of gift cards as gifts. However, I like to present them in ways that are a fun, thoughtful, and different.

And isn’t this My Favorite Things Hot Cocoa Cups die set so fun? After using it to cut from cardstock, I applied color to the edges with a coordinating color of Distress Ink. I think it makes a big difference to add ink to the edges. However, for white die cuts (like the whip cream) I add a light gray Copic Marker (C0 or C00) to the edges. I also die cut a white square from the My Favorite Things Pierced Square die set and stamped a sentiment from the Toasty Greetings stamp set using black ink. After adhering the die cuts to the white square, I applied three strips of foam tape to the back, creating a pocket for the gift card to slip into.

I finished the card off by adhering some die cut marshmallows on top of the whip cream and adding Distress Stickles on top to resemble sugar. For the background, I used a We R Memory Keepers Next Level Embossing Folder with some Hero Arts kraft cardstock. I like to lightly swipe white pigment ink over the raised areas of embossed backgrounds to create highlights and intensify the dimension.

You could combine any die cuts together and form a pocket behind it to create a gift card holder. Great for the holidays!

CHALLENGE UPDATE

I plan to give this card to my mail lady as part of the Share Handmade Kindness Challenge. This week focuses on sharing kindness to those who work/serve in the community and I thought this card would be perfect for that. It’s a great way to show some appreciation.

  1. I love this set of die and stamps for gift cards. I do use them for gifts for the nurses who work with me (I’m a school nurse).

  2. I love gifts especially when you have no idea what to get tat person. Gift cards are great! Love the card as well.
Ps I also love to receive gift cards as well, for craft stores or Starbucks. They make me happy.

  3. I love to give gift cards. Some people prefer to receive them. I know others don’t like them, but being so far away from family, we prefer gift cards. This way everyone can choose to use it on something they want instead of going through the hassle of exchanging/returning gifts they would never use. Of course, if we know for sure they want something then we buy the item instead of the gift card.

  4. I like giving gift cards to a favorite coffee shop for example as a thank you and also like to package it with a nice card. Then it’s a bit more special than just giving a gift card and the recipient seems to like it.

  5. It really depends on the person. I like to give gift cards to people I don’t know that well and to people who seem to have everything.

  6. This is just Aaahhh-mazing !!! If we have your tips and tricks why we will avoid sending gift cards ? !! 😀
I am soon gonna try this !! I would love to win this giveaway !!

  7. I used to stay far, far away from gift cards but, now that my grandchildren are in their 20’s, I have to do gift cards because they are impossible to buy a REAL gift for them!

  8. I love getting money as a gift, as well as giving it. The gift card holder is an amazingly grand touch, making it perfect for any card!

  9. I like to give gift cards like an Amazon card so the person can get what they really want and it will be something that they use.

  10. I definitely give gift cards, especially when I know someone has a favourite store to buy things from! there seems to be stigma that not much thought goes into gift cards, but there is ~ and making a sweet little holder card would give it that personal (and thoughtful) touch. Thanks for the video!

  11. Both my hubby and I work for the post office so I just love love love that you’ve recognized this hard working person in your community! Last year my guy (a letter carrier), got over 40 Christmas cards from his customers also many gifts, gift cards & treats! But only rarely does a letter carrier get recognized outside of Christmas time. Recently my guy had a customer call the depot to tell a supervisor what a good job he does. He was shocked but really proud! I love this whole campaign! Thanks Jennifer!

  12. Yes, I give gift cards. One will be for my boss this Christmas, as I got her name for Secret Santa. Thanks for such a great tutorial.

  13. What a cozy card! I do give gift cards since they are great and easy gifts from groups at the workplace.

Thanks for the giveaway and have a great weekend!

  14. Wow! I’m speechless! This card is amazin! Yes, absolutely! I love to give gift cards to my friends and parents!

  15. I love giftcards as sometimes its really hard to know what to buy and Im disorganised and then dont have time to shop 🙁 …love the card 🙂

  16. I prefer to give items as gifts. However, I LOVE making gift card holders so to put them to good use I may have to work them into my gift giving! I love the idea of opening a card to find a useful surprise!

  17. Oh my gosh Jennifer you are amazingly talented, and I love seeing your projects. Love, love, love all the products used, especially the cup dies and stamps. I love giving gift cards and I will certainly case your project idea by using some of the items I already owe while I can get to ordering the featured ones.

  18. What a timely card. I love how you linked the die cuts with the card you inserted. I’ll have to put on my thinking cap!

  19. I have mixed feelings about gift cards. Sometimes I include small value cards as a stocking stuffer, but they are great for teachers, nurses etc. For family I do not like giving a gift card as the main gift because i feel it is a bit impersonal. I love this card you made. I’m a huge MFT fan and absolutely adore their stamps and dies!

  20. Wasnt very common in my family, but this year we kinda started the trend of gift cards, it comes very handy especially since you can buy something to your taste, or you can get a nice “date” out etc.
Also since I just started to craft, I said whole family to give me gift cards for supply pages, which is great gift for me and I can make happy more people with them 🙂

  21. I definitely give gift cards – especially to teenagers. I always put in a little note to ask them to let me know what they bought with it, and they usually do!

  22. Gift cards are fine with me as long as I doll them up either by making a card like the one in the video or including it in a gift basket. Not a huge fan of just handing it over or tucking them into a big card for some reason, but they’re all very useful and appreciated when I receive them lol!

  23. Again …Wowza! You inspire me so much 🙂 I love this idea!! I LOVE getting and giving gift cards 🙂 I am always looking for fun ways to incorporate a nice gift card presentation. This one is added to the list. Thank you!

  24. I do give gift cards for birthdays and Christmas as grand kids like to do their own shopping! A gift holder would be a nice way to give the card…in the past I just put in a homemade card! Thank you for the chance to win!

  25. I give gift cards. I hate giving gifts that someone doesn’t want and sometimes that means letting them pick it themselves.

  26. I try to avoid gift cards unless they are an accessory to the gift, like a nice mug and a gift card to purchase tea or coffee. Other than that, if you receive a gift card from me it’s usually a very last minute gift. 🙂

  27. honestly I never give away gift cards, they seem like the type of gift you would give someone that you didn’t really know very well.

  28. Love this card! Simple, colorful and practical. I think gift cards are super: not expensive so you can give to people without an enormous financial drain . . but just enough to say “I’m thinking of you” or “thanks for a great job.” I also do this for a game of mini-golf after a goof report card in the spring or for teacher appreciation day at our local elementary school. Thanks for a great idea!

  29. I try not to give gift cards unless the person asks for one. I try to get an actual gift for the person. Gift giving is kind of a sport for me so I like to think of something that I know the person wants/will love.

  30. I feel gift cards are great for someone who seems to have everything or for the person you just don’t know what to get them! Love the card with those cups…….too cute!

  31. I give gift cards to my adult children in addition to their regular gifts. They seem to really like them. I give them to friends occasionally too. Those coffee cups are terrific.

  32. My grandson and his wife are so hard to buy for–so particular–and they both love shopping, so gift cards are
    a perfect choice for them.

  33. My husband and I love giving Starbucks gift cards out to people so they can take a break and have a cup of coffee on us. I use a stamp and die set to make coffee cups and attach the gift card at the top, back of the cups. Everyone loves the presentation. 🙂

  34. I love giving gifts cards especially to my little one teachers and ece as well as to my mail woman and newspaper delivery guy. This gift card you made is a great idea! Would love to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.
