Video: Ink Organization + Storage + DISCOUNT CODES + GIVEAWAY

Hi there. Today’s video is an update on my ink organization and storage.

I’ve shared many ink videos in the past, but I’ve added a few things to my system and wanted to share.

COLOR CODING

First, let’s talk about color identification. There are a few things I found helpful:

  • Ink Swatch Book – I find this essential when creating. It saves me so much time in matching inks and creating color combos. I have a free download of the swatches HERE, along with a video on how to create your own.
  • Brother Label Maker – I print out a label for each side of my ink pads. I like that the labels are durable and hold up nicely over time. (Many of the ones you print on your computer get messy quickly and fall off.)
  • Ink Dots – This is something I’ve recently started doing and I really find it helpful to see the true color of the ink pad at first glance. I stamp the color on top of two dots sandwiched together and adhere it next to the label. I encourage you to get your kids involved in helping. (A big shout out to Colin and my friend/right-hand-stamper Heather for helping me create all these dots!)

Note: I don’t think it is necessary to do all three of the systems above. It just depends on how many inks you have, how you work, etc. Maybe one would do the trick for you. I find all three helpful since I have a lot of inks for my job. (By the way, it is completely unnecessary to own as many inks as I do. This is my job and that is the only reason I have so many. Inks are like shoes – we all need and want something different, so you just need to pick what suites you. I show lots of inks in my videos to help you pick.)

INK STORAGE

I have a few ways I store my inks:

  • Organize More – I am a huge fan of Organize More… both the people and the products. I have several of their ink units in my craft room and cannot recommend them enough. They are amazing. You can get a closer look at these storage units in THIS video.

The kind people at Organize More are offering a 10% off code for my readers. Just use the code “MCGUIRE715” now thru 7/25/15. (And see below for a big giveaway!)

  • Stampin’ Up Ink Caddy – This option is great if you have a small desktop space for ink storage. I’ve placed a couple of these in a deep cabinet and have been happy with them. I like that each unit holds 48 ink pads and swivels for easy access. There is also a storage area on top to hold re-inkers.

If you’d like to get one of these caddies, just click HERE to shop with my friend Lydia Fiedler. If you use hostess code FEBAUNEW (enter this after clicking to view your shopping bag) you will go into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to her store. Lydia is awesome. If there was a unicorn made out of glitter it couldn’t be more awesome than she is. 😉

Here is one of my Organize More units. It is just a thing of beauty…

And here is a look at how the inks fit into the Stampin’ Up Caddy. I do like how this baby spins around easily…

  1. Pat says:

Mine are stuck in a draw, but I did adopt your swatch method which I take with me shopping also.

  2. MonicaB says:

My most used inks are in a box on my desk. My less used inks are in a decorative suitcase on a shelf.

  3. Sylvia says:

I already own a stamp pad holder for my SU ink pads from Organize More. I’ve owned this for 3 or 4 years and it’s still like brand new. I’m in the market for a distress pad holder now.

  4. Mary in Wausau WI says:

Distress inks are stored in one place with the distress markers…majority of pads are in a container – and the current “must use on every project” colors/pads are in a small holder on my desktop. Oh to have one big rack to see all the pretty preciousness…

  5. Teresa Cherka says:

I am just starting out paper crafting so I am storing my ink pads in a shelf that I made myself from foam board. In the city where I live the selection of organization items is very limited so I am always looking for ideas and inspiration on different craft websites. I enjoy watching your video posts for inspiration. Thanks.

  6. Melanie Amaya says:

For ink storage I have a wooden spinning one a friend made years ago. I also have one of those cassette holders and a SU spinner. It would be nice to be able to store them all in organized places.

  7. Evelyn B says:

I store my inks in the Stamp and Storage unit and in a unit that is a lot like your 48 swivel one. Together they are all right at my finger tips. Store the Ranger inks in a metal box for them. Really great to look at the colors and then decide which you really want to use.

  8. Denise Bryant says:

Awesome storage ideas! I store my ink pads in drawers, like kinds together. I have Iris carts. But I find that I don’t always put them away, then who knows where I might find a stray or two…

  9. Rosie S says:

My ink pads are in drawers…not an efficient way to store and use them. I love your organization videos.

  10. Gabriella says:

I store my inks in a desk drawer for distress and all others in a box

  11. Amy s K. says:

I store my inks in three boxes and a couple small drawers.

  12. Judy Humphrey says:

My inks are stored in little storage baskets. Probably not the best way to store them, but it works.

  13. Jean McCurry says:

I store all of my Stampin Up! ink in the Stampin Up swivel unit, however, until I saw your post today, I did not realize, I could use it to store other brands as well, so now I can take my other brands out of the drawers and have them all at my fingertips. Thanks Jennifer!

  14. janet Wilson says:

I have most of my inks on wall racks. I recently bought the Altenew cubes and I am keeping those in a TH mini DI tin – perfect 🙂

  15. Lee MacAdam says:

Thanks for the great tips Jennifer. They are always helpful.

  16. Peggy Lamb says:

Thank you for all the tips. The way I store my ink pads right now is not good and I really need to reorganize them.

  17. Nancy Richards says:

Currently I have my inks in an antique metal mailbox unit. My work station is an old 200 slot post office desk (mid century). I absolutely LOVE these pieces! However, I am always in need of storage inside of storage 😉 Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  18. Randee S says:

I store my inks in a plastic cassette holder, but am looking to upgrade. Thanks for sharing how you store yours.

  19. Susan Pezza says:

Love your storage videos! I purchased a unit from Stamp n Storage from their scratch and dent section, but it’s full and and now have inks on top and in an Alex drawer. I also have Distress inks in the metals tins for the minis or the full size in a Fridge Binz.

  20. kay says:

I use three-drawer plastic shelves. The organize more one are really nice.

  21. Carol says:

I store my inks in a Stanley parts organizer. It has a handle on it so I can easily take to another room to stamp. My other distress inks are in a drawer in a plastic container. I own the old Stampin Up inks with only a few of the New bigger design inks.

  22. Sandy says:

I store my inks in two “pieces and parts” plastic organizer that is 6 drawers high and 3 drawers across. I can get 3 ink pads in each drawer. I bought it, very reasonably priced, in the hardware section of a Meijer store. They are free-standing on a shelf or can be attached to the wall.

  23. Kathy W says:

The inks I use everyday – black dye, pigment and Stazon – are always on my desk. All my others are in a box I got at Ikea — not very handy, but works in the space I have available.

  24. cindy m says:

I use 2 ink racks from stamp ‘n storage + th tins for my minis

  25. Samantha Grey says:

i have my ink pads stored in two old cassette tape holders that i painted…..they work fine for S.U. and CTMH ink pads (which i rarely use) but my favorites…SSS, LF, MFT’s & Distress Inks dont fit well at all so its not a great solution

  26. I store various inks in various places. My Distress Inks are stacked in rainbow color in a deep drawer with all of the matching markers. That’s the only drawer that doesn’t work because all 48 ink pads plus all the ones released this year are there. My Stampin’ Up Inks are in the Stampin’ Up spinning ink pad holder. My Pigment inks along with Stazon are in a drawer together, as are my Memento Dew Drops, Memento Luxe, and the matching markers. My Lawn Fawn, My Favorite Things and Kaleidacolor inks are together. It works in the small space I have and I can put my hands on anything I need, so I’m happy with it. Not that I wouldn’t be happy to upgrade with the Organize More gift certificate!

  27. Terry B. says:

I have my inks stored in a clear plastic drawer, I’ve had it so long, I don’t even know who made it or what it’s called, lol. There are two drawers in a black plastic frame, and they hold quite a bit of “stuff”. 🙂

Thanks for the chance to win.

  28. Casey Richard says:

I store my stamps in the ikea Raskog rolling cart! It’s not ideal, but it has worked for me, I am currently in the hunt for a new system that allows for my expanding ink collection!

  29. Ally Victor says:

I store my stamps in a three tier cart by brand name. Not the easiest to rifle through, lol. Thanks for the chance to win!

  30. Quyen says:

I seriously need an ink pad storage. Thanks for the chance to win.

  31. VikkiCH says:

I stack my Distress Inks by color family with labels on the side. My other colored inks are on their sides in clear plastic shoeboxes. My basic blacks/white on my desk top.

  32. karenladd says:

I store my most-used ink pads in an old wooden cassette that I have mounted on the wall and the excess ones in a bin under my desk, Oh, and even more extras in boxes on shelves throughout the house. My Distress inks are in drawers in my rolling Iris cart. I label the sides of each ink pad and try to have a color dot as well so I can see the colors at a glance. I NEED more ink pad storage because pulling out my bins and drawers, and running all over the house to find what I need is not very efficient!

  33. Sue D says:

Some of my ink pads are in drawers and some are in cassette holders.

  34. Nancy K says:

I’m just getting into stamping so don’t have a lot of ink pads. Right now they are in a drawer and I wade my way through. Not very efficient 🙂 Love your videos!

  35. Laura says:

Mine are stored in a some drawers, but the drawers are getting full. Thanks for the chance to revamp my ink storage!

  36. Natalie Godfrey says:

Currently I have my ink pads stored in one of my kitchen cabinets that is located over the kitchen desk.

  37. Tami says:

I have an Organize More storage shelf for my inks hanging on my studio wall. Love it! Thanks for sharing your ink organizing ideas!

  38. Robin B. says:

Thanks for sharing some fun storage ideas. I have my inks in a caddy but I am looking for a different, prettier way to store them.

  39. Katfish says:

I currently store my inks stacked on top of each other in a narrow wooden crate. Have been eyeing the Organize More units for a while. Would love to have the opportunity to get some. Thanks for all the great tips and ideas.

  40. Anh L says:

I currently have all of my Stampin Up ink in their ink caddies. The rest of my other inks are stored in an Ikea drawer system at the moment.

  41. JodyT says:

My dad made me a wooden, spinning unit to hold my inks. Its a little like the StampinUp unit. I love it.

  42. Mary R says:

I like your idea of adding a color dot on the ink pad-that way you get an idea of the shade very quickly. I don’t have anything nice for storing my inks. I have 10 pads sacked per cardboard box. I have 3 boxes of pads. The re-inkers are in cardboard boxes too. I have
really outgrown my system (I have acquired some Distress inks and refills, but have no storage box for them yet. I like your spinning stamp holder (wouldn’t take up much space).

  43. Rhonda Frerichs says:

I store my inks in the refrigerator and freezer storage bins, I think the name is Interdesign. I appreciate the opportunity or a chance to win!!

  44. Gwen says:

I store my ink pads in a small plastic basket, in an old cassette tape spinny thing and on my desk. Clearly I’m in need of some organization!

  45. Jennifer Palmer says:

I store my ink pads in a long, clear, narrow plastic bin.

  46. Elizabeth says:

I store my inks in a plastic storage box and it sucks big time

  47. Amanda W. says:

Do you store dye inks upside down and pigment inks right side up? Have you heard of that?

  48. Eva says:

My daughter and myself(she uses me as backup) love listening to what you say as everything you is very educational. You’re a wonderful teacher.

  49. ChrisM says:

I store mine in a box.

  50. Charlene M. says:

My distress inks are in a one of the Organize more units. I have just recently started adding a few other inks to my collection and I’m looking for another one of these units. I’d love to win one though!
    Thank you for the chance!
