Video: Mirror Stamping + Giveaway!

Hello! I wanted to share with you a technique I have not done in a long time – mirror stamping. It seemed perfect for this cute deer stamp…

Mirror stamping is a technique stampers have been doing for years in many different ways. In this video, I shared my favorite way to get a mirror-image with heat embossing.

I simply stamped the adorable deer image from The Greeting Farm on a piece of clear transparency (acetate) with Versamark ink. I then pressed that down onto white cardstock to transfer the inked mirror image on to the cardstock. After adding gold powder and heat embossing it, I added soft color with Copic Markers. This results in a little deer that faces the opposite direction of what the stamp intended. Fun!

I added the deer to a cross-stitched-heart die cut from Memory Box and heat embossed the sentiment to match. To keep the card simple and soft, I used an ivory shimmer notecard. (I am a big fan of these shimmer cards!)

ADDITIONAL INSPIRATION

As I mentioned, there are many ways to do mirror stamping. One of the other best ways is to use the back of a clear stamp instead of a piece of acetate. To see this method in action, check out THIS video by my friend Chari Moss. (Thanks for letting me share your video, Chari.) I recommend that method if you want to use just a plain black ink instead of heat embossing. I will try to add this method into a future video, too.

In the video I also mentioned that my soft colors were inspired by one of my friends – Debby Hughes. I encourage you to check her out!

Finally, be sure to check out the newest release from The Greeting Farm. The little animals are adorable, easy to color and oh-so-happy! (The stamps are available at Simon Says Stamp HERE… or on The Greeting Farm website.)

Hmmm – I think stamping and embossing is probably my favourite technique – or at least the one I use the most 🙂
Thanks for the opportunity to enter the draw.
    Blessings
    Maxine

  2. Tina Kloepfer says:

I’m going to try mirror stamping very soon because your card is so cute!
What is my fav stamping technique? Currently, it’s no line coloring with Copics. The one where you stamp off on scratch paper then stamp on your card to give enough of an outline to follow when coloring/shading, so when you’re finished the image looks drawn instead of stamped.

  3. terrie says:

masking so it looks like a perspective scene. thanks for chance to win

  4. Chris E says:

My favorite stamping technique is possibly masking … or just stamping and then coloring 🙂 I also love paper piecing!! I love your mirror image. I will try the acetate/versa Mark cuz that is the bomb 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. Sundy says:

I don’t have a favorite technique yet, I’m still trying to find a style I like. My style for cards is just simple, die cut and a stamp. I want to get some sequins to add touches to them 🙂

  6. Marty says:

  7. Stephanie says:

Currently, I like to stamp the image, color it with Copics, and die cut them out. I am loving Mama Elephant stamps – they are so so cute.

  11. Mary K. Parker says:

How clever, I never would have thought about using acetate for this. I love those Tweety Pie stamps thanks for another great video and chance to win. Oh and right now my fav method would be ANY.

Last year we gutted my kitchen and remodeled it, went on a dre land/sea vacation to Alaska. I forgot about being allergic to grasses and trees, came home with pneumonia in both lungs.

This year after seeing your storage info and friends using the Avery Elle storage envies, I started re-organizing my craft room to make more room and arrange my clear/UM stamps in subject order. I’m finished except for Papertrey. I want to make an inventory list of them before mixing them in with the others.

Then I’m thinking I’ll send my husband away somewhere and call a few friends over for a few pj days of just stamping!

  12. Jo says:

  15. Marina says:

Hi, great idea, thanks for sharing! Why didn’t I think of this mirror stamping idea?

My favourite stamping technique? At the moment I am into water coloring, so stamping (sometimes emboss it) and then watercoloring it is.

  16. jennifer, thanks for showing this technique, can’t wait to try it!

  17. Yolanda says:

I love color with my copics. I love the GF stamps

  18. Charlotte C says:

I love stamping, period, because it gives me an opportunity to color an image, whether it’s with alcohol markers, water based markers, Distress Markers – doesn’t matter. And now with my MISTI I can stamp on my die cut image perfectly, so I’m a very happy camper. I’ve learned so much from you that I’m only glad you didn’t ask what’s my favorite overall card-making technique because that would be impossible to answer.

  19. KathyinMN says:

My favorite technique? Done. I like done. LOL. I would say I’m a simple stamping, I’m usually so short on time I’m only stamping ‘normally’. But this? This technique is genius. And the pen fixing the embossing? WOW.

  20. Richell says:

Thank you for the tip on mirror stamping! Can’t wait to try it. Lawn Fawn has many stamp images that would work beautifully with this technique! Thanks for showing!

  21. Jan G says:

I don’t have a favorite technique, but I like watercoloring after stamping, whether it is with distress markers, ink or water colors.

  22. Randee S says:

Cute card. Will have to try this technique. My favorite technique is dry embossing. TFS

  23. Terry B. says:

Cute card! I actually used a similar image with mirroring, and had his image reflecting in the water, (but my “water” wasn’t too good, LOL.
My favorite technique is using my CB with embossing folders to add a little extra interest to my cards.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  24. Sharri Harri says:

i love your work. I am still learning stamping and have a long way to go before perfecting, but I love doing heat embossing. I love how my stamps pop with that method.

  25. Thank you for reminding me about the mirror stamping. I tried a long time ago and I will definitely have to give it a go again! Your card is so adorable and so is the fawn and birds!!
Thank you for the chance to win!!

  26. I’m so sorry I forgot to post my favorite technique in stamping. Right now It is heat embossing and just stamping so I can color the image in.

  27. Olive M says:

I do quite a bit of masking. I love when you peel the mask off and you have instant perspective. I want to try no line stamping with watercoloring, but think it might just be a big blob if there are no lines. Lol. Thanks for the opportunity to win and thank you for sharing these great ideas and techniques with us.

  28. Jeanette Wilde says:

Such a cute card. Thanks for sharing the technique.

  29. Gina McClellan says:

One of my favorite techniques is to color the stamp lines with stamp brush markers. Great detail & perfect for when I just want the lines colorful & don’t intend to color inside the image.

In case anyone sees this, Big Shots are currently only $79.99 at Joann Fabric, not sure when the sale ends. All of their other die cut machines are on sale as well!

  35. Bev says:

My favorite technique isn’t much of a technique – just stamping and then coloring with copics. For some reason, coloring is so much fun!

  36. Marla P. says:
