Video: Mirror Stamping + Giveaway!

Hello! I wanted to share with you a technique I have not done in a long time – mirror stamping. It seemed perfect for this cute deer stamp…

Mirror stamping is a technique stampers have been doing for years in many different ways. In this video, I shared my favorite way to get a mirror-image with heat embossing.

I simply stamped the adorable deer image from The Greeting Farm on a piece of clear transparency (acetate) with Versamark ink. I then pressed that down onto white cardstock to transfer the inked mirror image on to the cardstock. After adding gold powder and heat embossing it, I added soft color with Copic Markers. This results in a little deer that faces the opposite direction of what the stamp intended. Fun!

I added the deer to a cross-stitched-heart die cut from Memory Box and heat embossed the sentiment to match. To keep the card simple and soft, I used an ivory shimmer notecard. (I am a big fan of these shimmer cards!)

ADDITIONAL INSPIRATION

As I mentioned, there are many ways to do mirror stamping. One of the other best ways is to use the back of a clear stamp instead of a piece of acetate. To see this method in action, check out THIS video by my friend Chari Moss. (Thanks for letting me share your video, Chari.) I recommend that method if you want to use just a plain black ink instead of heat embossing. I will try to add this method into a future video, too.

In the video I also mentioned that my soft colors were inspired by one of my friends – Debby Hughes. I encourage you to check her out!

Finally, be sure to check out the newest release from The Greeting Farm. The little animals are adorable, easy to color and oh-so-happy! (The stamps are available at Simon Says Stamp HERE… or on The Greeting Farm website.)

  2. Thanks for the great video and technique! So many wonderful ideas and so little time to try them all. I don’t know about favorite technique for stamping, I’d have to say that I usually just do basic stamping onto card stock with black ink and then vary the kind of coloring that I do. I do love using embossing powders too, especially clear.

My favorite is to use a background stamp to emboss a background on water color paper, then use distress inks in different color to go over the page. Then mist with water to let the colors blend into each other. So pretty and colorful.

I LOVE to ombre a patterned stamp. I haven’t had a chance to try the new ombre ink pads by hero arts, but I just use the memento dew drop pads since they are tiny and create a rainbow or ombre pattern. It’s my favorite 🙂

My favourite technique is probably masking. I love the dimension it gives. My favourite ‘WOW’ technique to show a beginner is heat embossing, especially gold or silver. The effect as the powder melts is always awesome.

I am very new to stamping and card making so I don’t really know many stamping techniques. I really want to try the light stamping and then water coloring over it. Since, I am no artist, this will make it look like maybe I have some skills. 😀 I just usually stamp, emboss, and die cut then stick it on the card with some foam tape.:D

  31. Alex H says:

My favorite technique at the moment would probably have to be coloring on stamps with watercolor and just filling it in with water. I love watercoloring stamped images in, but the method of coloring on stamped images, with like distress markers, is much easier. I’ll have to try mirror stamping too, though! Thanks for the unique video and the generous giveaway! 🙂
