Video: Mirror Stamping + Giveaway!

Hello! I wanted to share with you a technique I have not done in a long time – mirror stamping. It seemed perfect for this cute deer stamp…

Mirror stamping is a technique stampers have been doing for years in many different ways. In this video, I shared my favorite way to get a mirror-image with heat embossing.

I simply stamped the adorable deer image from The Greeting Farm on a piece of clear transparency (acetate) with Versamark ink. I then pressed that down onto white cardstock to transfer the inked mirror image on to the cardstock. After adding gold powder and heat embossing it, I added soft color with Copic Markers. This results in a little deer that faces the opposite direction of what the stamp intended. Fun!

I added the deer to a cross-stitched-heart die cut from Memory Box and heat embossed the sentiment to match. To keep the card simple and soft, I used an ivory shimmer notecard. (I am a big fan of these shimmer cards!)

ADDITIONAL INSPIRATION

As I mentioned, there are many ways to do mirror stamping. One of the other best ways is to use the back of a clear stamp instead of a piece of acetate. To see this method in action, check out THIS video by my friend Chari Moss. (Thanks for letting me share your video, Chari.) I recommend that method if you want to use just a plain black ink instead of heat embossing. I will try to add this method into a future video, too.

In the video I also mentioned that my soft colors were inspired by one of my friends – Debby Hughes. I encourage you to check her out!

Finally, be sure to check out the newest release from The Greeting Farm. The little animals are adorable, easy to color and oh-so-happy! (The stamps are available at Simon Says Stamp HERE… or on The Greeting Farm website.)

I’ve been wanting to learn how to do this!! Thanks so much! I’m still so new to stamping, I’m not sure I I can really tell you what my favorite thing is, but I finally got a few embossing powders and a heat gun for an early birthday gift, and am in LOVE with embossing!! Have been having a little trouble with getting the white to cover well…and the ultra high clear to stick, but other that that it’s SO COOL! :-))

  8. Mendi Yoshikawa says:

Such a sweet card and I love how you mirrored the images–I must remember to do this sometime soon. My favorite go to technique is paper-piecing stamped images from different patterned papers. 🙂

  9. Rhonda Poynton says:

I like to use masking and shadowing to stamp background images in light ink, and foreground images in a darker ink.

I enjoy stamping on shrink art to create matching cards and gifts. I use my favorite stamps to create a card and then use the same stamp to make matching buttons for a friend who sews, wine glass charms for wine loving friends, pins or earrings for jewelry loving friends. You can make magnets or miniature flower gardens. You can use the shrink art pieces to enhance the contents of your shaker cards! The technique produces inexpensive, yet impressive looking gifts.

Not only doI I appreciate your amazing talent – your helpful hints are great as well. Use a jelly roll pen if you don’t have a versa mark pen. Brilliant!!!

Right now my favorite technique would be doing tone on tone stamping using clear embossing powder. I’ve never done it and I’m learning what stamps I have that I can use multiple times on a background with VersaMark and clear embossing. Loving the look of it. Something different than embossing all the backgrounds so they have character.
