Video: Ink for Beginning Stampers + GIVEAWAY

I am often asked which inks I recommend for new stampers. This is a tough question and I have spent a lot of time thinking about it over the years. And today? I finally have an answer…

[All supplies are linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Affiliate links used. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

I consider three things to be important when considering ink for a new stamper: the quality, the colors, and the ease at which you can get good, solid results. Today’s inks are great on all three counts! In my video, I suggest “a collection of beginner inks” that includes Lawn Fawn and Ranger Dye Inks. Both of these inks are new and have impressed me big time.

The Lawn Fawn colors are rich-yet-muted-mid-tones. The Ranger colors are bright-and-primary. Together? A great collection of 20 inks. (I left out black inks from this – was just focusing on the colors.)

Be sure to watch the above video to understand more about these inks and how they work. And *please* remember – there are lots of other inks I love just as much as these! So be sure to watch THIS video about my other favorite inks. For example – I *love* Hero Arts Shadow Inks, WPlus9 Inks, various pigment inks, etc. and use them most. I adore their unique colors. However I felt the inks I share today are a great place to start to get basic colors. Then you can starting adding in the other great ink lines! (The more the merrier, huh?)

Please check above for a comparison between the colors. Keep in mind that every computer screen is different.

By the way, if you would like to better understand the difference between ink types, check out THIS video.

Thanks Jen for these new suggestions.

  7. The distress inks are my favorite because you can do so many fun things with them. This video was very informative. Thanks!

  8. I’ve always used Stampin’Up ink except for black where I use Versafine Onyx. I’d love to try some of the other inks I see you and others using. Thanks for the chance to win some new ink!

  9. I don’t have a favorite yet as i’m new to inks & stamping. Loved your informative video. Thanks for a chance to win!

  10. This idea helps me to get me organized and know what I have. I love all the colors and types. Encourages me to use different kinds too.

  11. I love the depth of colour from the new Ranger Dye Inks. I use a variety of manufacturer’s inks. I really love MFT’s Black Licorice and all the new Lawn Fawn colours.

  12. I enjoy the versatility of the ranger distress inks for stamping and creating colorful background papers for my card making. I don’t own many colors of the dye inks but the variety of colors and quality of the inks now available have me adding them to my wish list!

  13. Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for this video, but I’m confused, in the Ranger inks some of them say Dye ink on the front and some say Pigment on the back but the strangest thing is you can stamp with them and then touch it and it feels dry and doesn’t smear, but you can also stamp and then emboss with them and that works well also, would this be like the “hybrid inks”?

Also I would really love to see a video about all black inks and what all technique you can do with them i.e. momentos for copics etc.

    Thanks for all you do…

  14. The choices of inks overwhelms me. I have a set of CTMH,Stamping up (very old colors), tim holtz inks, brillance ink pads, staz on and a selection of blacks. I just bought some SSS inks and they are my favorite as of right now. I love the colors too. I think I might invest in some of the ranger now that I have seen them.

  15. Wow! Such good info! I’m using mostly Distress inks and Memento, but I’m thinking about trying some of the SSS. Luckily, it’s not expensive to experiment a bit. Thank you for your fabulous videos!

  16. Such a wonderful video Jennifer! And what a great giveaway!!!! I have never tried either one of these companies die inks. I would love the opportunity to get some and try them out. I use the Hero Arts inks and Stampin Up inks. I really like the die inks best because of the gorgeous color you get once the ink is completely dried, and I like that most dye inks dry fast. Thanks for the chance!

  18. My favorite ink has got to be a dye ink. It always comes out crisp, even if it’s kinda splotchy at first. I know I’ll always get solid results!! Thanks for the giveaway, and thanks for the generous giveaway! 🙂

  19. I am loving the Lawn Fawn inks but noticed that they are more toned down. I would love to try the bright colors from Ranger! Thanks for the opportunity. 🙂

P.S. Hi Lilabear! Your smiles and giggles on Instagram always brighten up my day!

  20. Thanks for all these great giveaways and information packed posts! Favourite ink? How can I choose just one! I love Ranger’s products. The distress and the versatility they provide is just amazing. But I also love my pigment inks too. I’m a big fan of Versa Color Ink Cubes. The ink is always high quality, their range of colours is almost limitless and the cost… Well that’s the best bit!

  21. I don’t know if I can choose a favorite! I guess my top 3 are Distress, the SSS dye inks, and Fresh Inks. I think I really want to try WPlus9 next because the colors are so amazing! =)

  22. Black Archieval ink is my favorite, but I would love to try some more from Ranger. Thanks so much for this information

  23. Stampin Up are my favorite for colors. I hate the black and for that I use Momento. I also love the Tim Holtz distress inks. I Am scrapbooker and inks, stamps and die cuts are my favorite tools

  24. I am just branching out beyond my CTMH and Memento inks, and I am loving the fun colors and formulas that are so different! Thank you for opening my eyes to the possibilities!

  25. Hi Jennifer!
What a generous giveaway! I think my all round money would go to the distress inks, being that they are so versatile – I love the way they give a great watercolour effect on my cards. I have a few Stampin Up ink pads but would love to try the Hero Arts shadow inks as you seem to love them so much. My go to black ink is the Ranger Archival brand or Memento (if colouring with alcohol inks/markers)

  26. Great info. Especially for a beginner. My favorite ink is Marvy Uchida. Sadly no longer made. And also Memento. Colorbox for pigment.

  27. I recently gave myself a gift of all the mini distress inks. And now they come out with new colors! Ugh. I also have a variety of other manufacturers. It’s hard to keep up with all of them.

  28. So far, my favorite ink is the Distress Ink, but I’d love to try these. I’ve heard good things about them. Thanks!

  29. I don’t have to much inks last month I start to buy some, I bought some pigment inks from memento, I love it!! and love distress inks too

  30. Hi Jennifer, thank you for the chance to win an awesome gift certificate to SSS. I Love Distress inks. I mostly have Memento Inks, but would really love to try some, that would stamp with a more solid look. Love your videos. They always have such great information and techniques.
