My Favorite Non-Crafty Things + GIVEAWAY

During My Favorite Crafty Things series, several people asked if I would be doing a list of favorite non-crafty things. I have wanted to do this for awhile (I have an on-going list of what I wanted to share) and thought it was time. Most of my things are pretty practical and all about making life easier… so maybe you will find something helpful here, too! (Affiliate links used in some cases.)

COOKING & EATING

I will be honest – I am not a fan of having a billion gadgets in my kitchen. (Who has the room or money anyway?) But there a few key things that help me a lot.

  1. Set & Forget Programmable Slow Cooker (Crockpot) – This guy has changed our lives. In fact, we even have two of them. A couple times a week, we create TWO batches of healthy crockpot meals at once. One crockpot holds our dinner for that evening and the other holds a meal we will put in the freezer for another time. The price is great and I love that you can program it so you don’t have to worry about a thing. I can’t recommend enough.
  2. Aroma Digital Rice Cooker – This is another “program and forget” kitchen device we couldn’t live without. It is great to have along with the crockpots. (We normally use basmati rice.)
  3. Skinnytaste – Most of the healthy crockpot meals we make are from the Skinnytaste recipe site. Our favorites? Santa Fe Chicken and Sesame Honey Chicken (with added broccoli). Both are tasty and reheat well.
  4. Egg Cooker – This seems so very silly but is so very awesome. In minutes you have perfectly cooked, easy-to-peel eggs. We use this a lot.
  5. Fruit Infusion Pitcher – I know many people struggle to drink a lot of water. When I find myself getting tired of plain water, I break out this guy. Add any fruit or cucumbers and you will be amazed how good it is. I drink at least two pitchers a day.
  6. Shakeology – Almost every day I have a Shakeology shake. These are tasty (and I am picky when it comes to shakes) and nutritious and help keep my tummy settled and happy. I know a lot of people who have lost a lot of weight with these. (I instead use it as a healthy snack. It has completely eliminated my sweet tooth.) My favorite is the Chocolate Shakeology with a couple tablespoons of PB2 Powder (healthy peanut butter) and water or almond milk. (It tastes like a Reese Cup shake. For real.) I also love the Vanilla Shakeology with a handful of frozen fruit, half a banana and water. These shakes have been awesome for me. If you are interested in finding out more, you can contact my non-pushy and encouraging friend, Amy HERE.
  7. Soft Cookies – So we are pretty strict about cooking and eating healthy meals at home. However, I also like to treat my family to homemade treats now and then. My kiddos love soft cookies. Wanna know an easy trick I learned from my Grandma? Put a few pieces of bread in the cookie jar. The cookies will stay amazingly soft. You’re welcome. ๐Ÿ™‚
  8. PackIt Freezable Lunch Bag – Our family takes packed lunches to school. This lunch bag is great as you freeze the whole thing and it keeps the food cold for a long time. So very cool.
  9. Nalgene Water Bottles – Finally! I finally found a water bottle that doesn’t leak. Perfect for the kid’s lunches.
  10. Sistema Containers – You may have seen that I use these in my craft room for many things, but I also have more-than-I-care-to-count for kid’s lunches. They are the perfect size and easy to open.

ORGANIZING

Not every part of my home is organized, but I do have some parts figured out. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. OXO Containers – I adore the OXO Containers for our dry goods in our cabinet. It is nice to get away from lots of half-empty boxes and be able to load several boxes into one container. (Note: I only use plastic containers for dry foods and never put them in the microwave.)
  2. Brother Label Maker – Ah… my partner in organizing. I can’t recommend this guy enough. Be sure to check out THIS video where I show how to conserve the amount of tape you use. Also, be sure to get THIS adapter to save on battery use.
  3. Erin Condren Planner – I have shared my love for this planner many times, including in THIS post and video. I keep it practical and useful and it has completely improved my productivity, happiness and stress-level. It simply makes me happier. I like many things about this particular planner, but I know there are many great ones out there.
  4. Cordless Pivot Vac – I am very impressed by this little cordless vacuum. I use it in my craft room and kitchen and car and more. It holds power well, empties easily, and doesn’t break the bank. I am impressed.
  5. Zipper Pouches – So I will admit – I have more of these in my house than I care to tell you. ๐Ÿ™‚ I use them for craft kits, kid’s toys, errand-running-stuff, my planner, school paperwork, kid’s art stuff – – everything. They are handy and durable. (The price on Amazon varies a lot. Sometimes they are only $2.00 and sometimes they are higher. May want to keep an eye on them and buy a bunch when the price is low.)

OTHER

Just have a few other random things you may like…

  1. Ad Block – If you like surfing the web, visiting blogs, peeking in on Facebook, etc. and are tired of ads, try installing Ad Block. I love it. I never have to see an ad… watch ads on YouTube (YES!) or anything. Can’t recommend it enough. It is like magic.
  2. Bouqs – If you ever send flowers to loved ones that are far away, I recommend checking out The Bouqs. Their flowers are so “real” – not a cheesy, sad arrangement that sometimes you get with big online flower sites. Unique, lovely flowers. There are no hidden service charges and ordering is simple. (Use THIS link and get a free bouquet – worth $40 – with purchase.)
  3. Happy Instagram – If you are like me and find Facebook a bit discouraging (somewhat full of complaining, depressing, political stuff) and instead want to find a happy place that uplifts, I would recommend Instagram. There is one account on Instagram in particular that is so very happy – the photos of Harlow and Sage. Just trust me – it is worth a visit to see these happy dogs who love each other so very much. (You can find me on Instagram, too.)
  4. Kapok Pillow – My physical therapist recommended this pillow as a great one – good for your neck. The price is good and there aren’t the nasty chemicals you find in other pillows. You can also take out part of the stuffing to make it lighter if you want. I have been thrilled with it.
  5. Oils – First, let me start by saying that I was a HUGE skeptic of oils. HUGE. But after the suggestion of many and out of complete desperation, I decided to try them. Thanks to the oils, I no longer have allergy problems. I quit allergy shots… which I had been getting 3 every week or so for 29 years. All I do is diffuse the oils into the air once a day and I am good. Not sure if they will work for you, but they worked for me. OH – and my family doesn’t get nearly as sick as we used to since diffusing Thieves. That stuff is amazing. If you want to know more about all this stuff, my friend Kristina is the one to ask. She can help you with anything.

So there are a few products I love outside of the crafty world. I would love to hear what you are finding helpful in your life these days.

I Love, love, love my mug collection. They are mad of cool mixed-matched mugs that I have found at Michael’s, Target, Cotton On, and Starbucks. I start my days with a cup of green tea and I have a mug for various moods. It’s a great way to start my day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I love the P Touch. It helps so much when trying to organize everything. I also am intrigued with the egg cooker. That is one of my pitfalls and irritations. Eggs that won’t peel. So I am going to add this to my gift list….. thanks Jennifer. Love to see new ideas and I don’t pay much attention so this is great to share.

thanks for leading me to a great portable vac, we have gone through several , never last and the poser is usually only half working it seems. Looked and if it was rated well the price point was always up there. i use Avery labels for my labeling of everything, just have my list type everything out and hit print. I buy several different sizes and also buy the replaceable labels to use on things that change.

I LOVE my Food Saver, so much that i even bought a second one to put in our 5th wheel, that way i can fit more food in the tiny refridge without it spilling and either take it home or reheat in boiling water (have to conserve when using the generator after all.).

I have to say, my crock pot is my favorite kitchen non scrapping thing. I love to put something in it first thing in the morning for dinner and walk away to scrap the day away and not worry about stopping to prepare dinner. I love that I can prepare a variety of foods in my crock pot.

  25. Eva says:

What a cool technique, can’t wait to try it.

  28. I love my Silpat for baking, and my Cuisinart food processor for all kinds of kitchen tasks– not least for making fruit smoothies! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  29. Carol H. says:

One of my favorite non-craft things would have to be our Cuisinart toaster oven/broiler/convection oven. It’s so very handy when I don’t want to heat up the house with the big oven.

  30. mary schmidt says:

This will help give some ideas to those (men) who have not finished their Christmas shopping.

  31. Josefine says:

Hi Jennifer, I know that’s probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but the one non-crafty thing I really love is my husband. We just got married in October and it was a little miracle to make that happen. I’m from Germany and we met when he was visiting my work place (he works in the same company, just in the US office). At that time I was in a relationship, so there was no interest in each other on both sides. A year later the relationship ended and thanks a weird thought I added him at Facebook. From that moment on we weren’t able to stop writing messages and later calling each other on a daily basis. To cut a long story short, I moved to the US and couldn’t be happier. It was worth every struggle we had with my Visa and everything else during my relocation!

As I had to sell nearly all of my stuff, the most non-crafty and non-human beloved things are my books. I was able to bring some of my favorite with me, which makes me feel home everywhere I am. ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. Carol Hartmann says:

I have the exact slow cooker that you do and absolutely love it. I use it year round!

  33. Meghan says:

I heard there is such a thing as a cordless vacuum! I abhor my vacuum and the process of vacuuming so maybe that is the answer?!

  34. Allison says:

I have a few things that I absolutely love in my house and couldn’t live without: Vitamix blender, Dyson vacuum, Sonicare toothbrush, Clarisonic Mia, Balance Guru No Frizz hair serum. I’d love to try some of the items that you listed (Shakeology, oils and the egg cooker)! =)

  35. I LOVE my P-Touch Label Maker and it’s one of the kazillion goodies that you have so sweetly “enabled” me to buy! Today’s post is FULL of some really cool new ideas and I’m excited to try a few of these!

Thank goodness for Amazon Prime and now I love using Amazon Smile, so that I can help raise fund for my sweet little Dachshund Rescue! Amazon was the very first store I every shopped from online and I JUST love it and the convenience of having so many products shipped to my front door! Prime is well worth every penny and in my family pays for itself in matter of weeks….a wise investment for us! We love it!

Thanks for the great ideas and also for being so generous….as ALWAYS!

    Happy Christmas!!!

  36. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing all these great products and ideas! You are by far my favorite blogger! I learn so much each and every time I tune in! I am going to go put a slice of bread in my cooky jar right now! I hope you have a wonderful and happy Christmas!

  37. Fran Gibson says:

Jennifer — I encourage to think about a plastic-free life with your children’s lunches. Chemicals leach from the plastic containers — especially in humidity and heat — and are very bad for all of us in the long run. Many concerned parents are going to a plastic-free life wherever possible. Perhaps this is not as important with craft storage but whenever human food is involved I encourage you to consider this change in lifestyle. Thanks — Fran

  38. Robin B. says:

I love my frosting decorating kit! It has really helped me make my cupcakes look as amazing as they taste.

  39. Karen Schroeder says:

I love my label maker! I don’t know what I’d do without it!

  40. Sherry Bleach says:

Thanks Jennifer, I don’t have any of these products you mentioned but I plan to add a few to my latest wish list.

  41. Monika/buzsy says:

It’s so nice to see what you like… I don’t have most of these items… I love the Sistema containers. I know you use them for embossing powder, but I’ve had them for ages for the kids… they take their own lunch and snack and I love those containers for that purpose… love the latch. I also use essential oils. Got hooked by my chiropractor… not sure if they work, but I use them a lot… thanks for the great post and the wonderful giveaway.

  42. Katherine says:

I love the egg cooker. Will definitely get one in the future.

  43. Carolee McCaslin says:

  44. lindsay w says:

  45. MelanieR says:

Thank you for the tips. I like the idea of the egg cooker. My favorite non-craft item is a book. I love my books and my Kindle. I get myself a cup of decaf from the new Keurig and curl up with a good story!

  46. Thanks Jennifer! Great recommendations!

  47. Rita says:

I love my Nook. It allows me to have lots of books without all the clutter. I am hoping to also get a Kindle soon to have more choices.

  48. Patt H. says:

Thanks for all the great tips! especially the vacumn. I’ve been looking for a small one to take in my fifth wheel & this one looks awesome. Also like the looks of that pillow! One of my favorite things lately has been my Contico hot cup. It keeps my coffee hot for hours & can be locked so no spills ever. (really great when I take my coffee to the craft room!).

  49. Jennifer says:

lately I’m also enjoying my essential oil diffuser, love having the choice to blend different scents.

  50. Kathy Mc says:

Love my Sonicare toothbrush, Clarisonic Mia II, Black & Decker DustBuster and now just got hooked on Jockey camisoles with adjustable straps. Could use that Amazon GC for so many of your recommendations. TFS, zjennifer, and for your generous giveaways!
