Here is some info about Kate:

About 6 weeks ago the life of the McRae family changed forever when their precious 5 year old daughter, Kate, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.  Dad (Aaron) is a pastor in Arizona and he and his wife, Holly have two other children, Will and Olivia.  Of course this is devastating for the whole family and many are praying for them.   (Go to www.prayforkate.com to learn more about this family and their struggle).  Kate has a rough road ahead of her for quite awhile.  When you hear their story you will want to do anything you can to help.

And one thing we can do to help is to send cards to Kate and her family to encourage them, give them strength, and let them know how many people are thinking about and praying for them.  And the most generous and kind people in the world are crafters so we thought we’d have a Cards for Kate Card DriveThis time I have two rockin' friends helping me out – Jana Millen and Kristina Proffitt.  Be sure to watch their blogs for more info, etc.

Think of how much it would encourage this family to receive cards from all over the world.  You can simply send the cards to me. We will then box them up and pay to send them to Kate's parents.  (We have already gotten the ok from them.)

The details:

  • Cards can be for any member of Kate's family:

                           -  Kate (age 5) – The sweet girl who is battling cancer.
                           -  Little brother Will.
                           -  Bigger sister Olivia.
                           -  Mom and Dad, Aaron and Holly.

  • Cards can be anything cheery, encouraging, supportive, etc.  (This family is a family of God, so for all you Christians out there, feel free to share messages of Faith.)  Anyone can send a card – even your children!
  • Please write a message in the card and sign your name and where you are from.  On the card envelope, please write the name of who the card is for (Kate, Will, Olivia, Aaron and/or Kate).  Also, please don't seal the envelope, as Kate's parents might want to preview cards before the kids see them.
  • With your cards, please include a piece of paper with your name, address, email address and number of cards.  We will keep these for picking out prizes.  (See below.)
  • The cards should be sent to:

                        Jennifer McGuire

       Card Drive for Kate

       PO Box 428612

       Cincinnati, Ohio 45242

  • Please send the cards to arrive by October 1. This should give enough time for those overseas to play along. As we get enough to fill a box to send to Kate's family, we will send them.  This way they don't get them all at once.  And since they are having some struggles lately, the sooner we get some cards, the better.
  • If you want to send more than just a card (such as a gift), please just send directly to the address given HERE.
  • If you want to donate money to Kate's family, please click HERE.  If you want to help cover the costs of shipping, feel free to include some money in with your cards.  Any money leftover will be donated to the family.  (But there is NO need to include money.)

And… how about some prizes as a thank you for participating?  For all the cards we get, we will pick random winners of some great prizes.  Click HERE for up-to-date prize info.  Stuff will be added soon and often.  Please keep in mind that winners will be pick based on piece of paper you include with your cards with your name and info. So, be sure to include it!

Thank you everyone,

Jennifer, Kristina and Jana

  1. I smiled when my kids eagerly helped me tear out worksheets for my daughter’s class. It’s funny how they make a boring
    project seem fun!

  2. My grandddaughter made me smile, we were keeping her while Mommy and Daddy went to the movies. she walked into the house and immediately asked if she could stamp. Stamping in training and fun to boot!

  3. Attending my DD’s Netball breakup and being thoroughly entertained by a senior of the school encouraging the kids to participate in what ended up being a 25 metre egg throwing game. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much at a school event in years.

  4. I have lupus, and had been having a hard day. My meds were not working that great. My grown son came up to me and stated that he thought I needed a huge. Then he gave it to me ever so gently yet firmly while I was sitting down. He is such a big strong man, yet he is able to express his emotions and displace gentleness at times when it is needed. Yes, I think I raised him up right. You just got to smile with a son like that.

  5. Today I’m smiling because I don’t have to get a sleepy head up for school. I’m also enjoying the early morning quiet and the sun is slowly brightening my day. I really love the special peace that starts each day- good thing since I rise about 5:30AM.

  6. Hi Jennifer,
i so look forwards to your posts. I smiled today when I walked in the door and my boyz ran into my arms yelling mommy!

  12. What a great idea the cards are for Kate’s family. I can’t wait to get started. My cat made me smile today when he wanted me to feed him and I was busy working, so he went to the cabinet where I keep his cans of food, opened the door, picked out a can and knocked it out of the cabinet onto the floor. I turned around, laughed, and he got exactly what he wanted, I immediately got up and fed him.

  13. I was making a new Geotrax configuration with my 4 yr old son and he said, “that’s looks good, mommy”. Nice to have his seal of approval!

  14. The thing that made me smile today was the sight of my two boys playing nicely together and helping one another. More often then not, they are hollering and jumping on each other. *L*

  15. After only a couple of days into the new school year and already hearing from my son’s grade 1 teacher how much he makes her laugh and that she really enjoys having him in her class! I know he’s funny and a cool kid, but it’s always neat to hear things like that from someone else:)
Thanks for the chance to win, Jennifer!

  16. It may sound weird, but we have a cloudy rainy morning and that made me smile. I am so cozy here with my coffee and my laptop listening to the rain fall.

  21. We just moved into a new home and it has been non-stop unpacking, errands, painting, cleaning, etc. I have been working my fanny off! Well, my hubby had to go out of town on business for a few days and he had flowers sent to me to thank me for all the hard work I put into making this place feel like OUR home. Today I walked out and spotted the beautiful dark lavender roses, in full bloom. Now, how can that not bring a smile to one’s face? 🙂

  22. My Boys made me smile today – they are 11 and 17. The youngest asked me to make him a real ice cream milk shake so I made enough for them both. The bigger one likes to think he is too cool for everything but they both sat in delightful silence savouring their home made mil shakes while to rain poured down outside. The big one fianlly said ” It’s the best milk shake Mum, Ever!” High praise indeed!

  26. Ah, well if I think about what made me smile on Thursday, the day of this post, it was the excitement of my 3 year about my birthday! Now, I’m actually reading the post on Saturday and I am smiling about the rain. That means that I will be able to stay inside (not work in my garden) and make some cards!
