Here is some info about Kate:

About 6 weeks ago the life of the McRae family changed forever when their precious 5 year old daughter, Kate, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.  Dad (Aaron) is a pastor in Arizona and he and his wife, Holly have two other children, Will and Olivia.  Of course this is devastating for the whole family and many are praying for them.   (Go to www.prayforkate.com to learn more about this family and their struggle).  Kate has a rough road ahead of her for quite awhile.  When you hear their story you will want to do anything you can to help.

And one thing we can do to help is to send cards to Kate and her family to encourage them, give them strength, and let them know how many people are thinking about and praying for them.  And the most generous and kind people in the world are crafters so we thought we’d have a Cards for Kate Card DriveThis time I have two rockin' friends helping me out – Jana Millen and Kristina Proffitt.  Be sure to watch their blogs for more info, etc.

Think of how much it would encourage this family to receive cards from all over the world.  You can simply send the cards to me. We will then box them up and pay to send them to Kate's parents.  (We have already gotten the ok from them.)

The details:

  • Cards can be for any member of Kate's family:

                           -  Kate (age 5) – The sweet girl who is battling cancer.
                           -  Little brother Will.
                           -  Bigger sister Olivia.
                           -  Mom and Dad, Aaron and Holly.

  • Cards can be anything cheery, encouraging, supportive, etc.  (This family is a family of God, so for all you Christians out there, feel free to share messages of Faith.)  Anyone can send a card – even your children!
  • Please write a message in the card and sign your name and where you are from.  On the card envelope, please write the name of who the card is for (Kate, Will, Olivia, Aaron and/or Kate).  Also, please don't seal the envelope, as Kate's parents might want to preview cards before the kids see them.
  • With your cards, please include a piece of paper with your name, address, email address and number of cards.  We will keep these for picking out prizes.  (See below.)
  • The cards should be sent to:

                        Jennifer McGuire

       Card Drive for Kate

       PO Box 428612

       Cincinnati, Ohio 45242

  • Please send the cards to arrive by October 1. This should give enough time for those overseas to play along. As we get enough to fill a box to send to Kate's family, we will send them.  This way they don't get them all at once.  And since they are having some struggles lately, the sooner we get some cards, the better.
  • If you want to send more than just a card (such as a gift), please just send directly to the address given HERE.
  • If you want to donate money to Kate's family, please click HERE.  If you want to help cover the costs of shipping, feel free to include some money in with your cards.  Any money leftover will be donated to the family.  (But there is NO need to include money.)

And… how about some prizes as a thank you for participating?  For all the cards we get, we will pick random winners of some great prizes.  Click HERE for up-to-date prize info.  Stuff will be added soon and often.  Please keep in mind that winners will be pick based on piece of paper you include with your cards with your name and info. So, be sure to include it!

Thank you everyone,

Jennifer, Kristina and Jana

  1. 1st thing this AM, before I even opened my eyes, my hubby said “I love you.” Then we got up and he and I took a drive to a little town I’d never been to (just cuz I said “I’ve never been there”), pop about 200 maybe. Just enjoyed the scenery and enjoyed some time together. We’ve been married over 21 years and it only gets better.

  2. having time to play w/ my daughter in my craft room instead of spending hours in a grocery store since i placed my first online grocery order.

  3. I smiled when my newly 16 year old came home in one piece on her 1st outing behind the wheel without mom by her side….I was nervous until she pulled into the drive then I was all smiles when I saw hers real big on her face. I am not going to think about my grey hairs to come! LOL

  4. Today is Saturday and it made me smile to be able to sleep in a little bit and have our little girl crawl up on the bed for morning snuggle time.

  5. Hi Jennifer! I love the Cards for Kate project! How amazing! I’ve smiled a lot today and I’m blessed to have reasons to make me smile! The kids and I had a great day together, they helped me clean without complaining, we went to the grocery store together, and now they are playing in the back yard. I have been a little sad tonight, though. I was planning on a romantic dinner with my husband prepared by the kiddos and just as he was on his way home from work he got called out by the Sheriff’s Dept again…. ugh! The kids and I are sad, but hopefully he will get home soon enough to still eat by candle light with me!

Thank you for all that you do! I appreciate you and all of your work!

  6. Being away for the weekend and having Monday off make me smile. Thanks for hosting the card drive – I’ll make cards on Monday since I am off!

Thank you for the giveaway too!

  7. Hearing that my sister got invited on a dinner date tonight by a guy she fancies made me happy.

Just read your previous post and watched the video. Colin is just the cutest thing ever. Time flies, it seems like you were only pregnant with him yesterday!!!

  8. My son (my only child) is home from college for the Labor Day weekend. He’s a Freshman and the whole empty nester situation has been tough for me although I don’t let him know it. It’s making me smile this weekend to have my son HOME.

  9. I smiled REAL big today when my teenage daughter said she is going to miss me while she is away at college….then I almost cried! Thanks for the chance to win these amazing punches Jennifer!

  10. I had some photos printed today from a family reunion that was held last week. Seeing the photos of so many family members, young and old having a great time together, put a huge smile on my face!!!

  11. My husbands birthday was yesterday. Tomorrow we are celebrating with a full day of family. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma about 16 months ago. I’m smiling because the treatment he’s getting has minimal side effects and is stopping the growth of the cancer. We were worried that last year would be his last birthday. God is good!

  12. What made me smile today is when I took my grandkids to the Aquarium and my 2yr old grandson pressed his face up to the glass and said to the shark “You wanna be friends?” Then my 1yr old granddaughter hugged me and said “I love you” God has truly blessed me with the honor of being there grandma.

  13. My husband and I were at a little demo today for a group he works with. They were showing how a non-newtonian liquid acts on a speaker. If you watch “the big ban theory” you may have seen this. It is a mixture of corn starch and water. When it is in the well of a speaker and the speaker is on, the stuff jumps around in all these neat ways.

So the part that made me smile was that everybody who walked up to our table started to smile and laugh when they saw it!

  14. Honestly…what made me smile today was watching your son Colin on that stamping video!! He’s SOOOOO cute πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Thanks for doing the giveaway πŸ™‚

  15. First – how wonderful of you to take on this card drive to help cheer up a little girl and her family! That is truly wonderful of you (and all who have donated)!!
Second – what made me smile today…my kids. My 5yo when she came into my room (bright and early) this morning and climbed into bed to snuggle. My 3yo when he climbed into my lap and just his grin – love it. My 9yo when she was swimming and laughing – having pure childhood fun!

Thanks for the chance at winning, but more for the chance to send a card to help brighten this families day!

  16. We recently boought a sailboat, a dream my husband & I have had for 5 years. It needed quite a bit of work done, but today we went out for our first sail, and I was grinning like a Cheshire cat all day long!

  17. Today I smiled because I just discovered this wonderful drive you have initiated! It really warms my heart to show love to a family doing something that I enjoy so! I have already created a card for each family member with more to come.

  18. I was talking on the phone with my daughter, who lives four hours away, and my grandson, he’s 3, came in to say good-night. So DD put us on speaker phone and my DGS said, “I lole (love) you Nana… nite-nite!” and i could hear him run off with his dad….this put a huge smile on my face!!!! I lole you too Ethan!!!

  19. My daughter’s first day of school was today here in the Middle East and I was so proud of how big she was about the entire thing. Other kids in her preschool class were falling apart but she was smiling when I left and that made me so very proud of her. I got in the car and had a tearful smile.

  20. We visited a brand new library 35 miles far from our home. It is so beautiful and modern. I found out it has a big rack with some nice magazines and periodicals choice. Among all were Creating Keepsakes. That made me happy. I didn’t find CK in any other of our local libraries.
But what really made me smile was when my 2 & 1/2 years kid asked some tissue. I wondered why. And he told me that the little duck in the TV cartoon was crying.
I gave him some. Then I smiled.

  21. My 22months old son, is using new word everyday. His is also recognising that his is responsible for some of the things that are causing the messes that he is so quick to point out. I love the fact that he is so aware of his environment and is making the whole family laugh with his antics.

  23. I smiled today at the bike store when I bought a new bike helmet for my DS. He is growing up too fast – he learnt to ride his bike without stabilisers about a week ago! so he had to get a new BIG BOY helmet!

  24. Today, my significant other made me smile! After only having ONE day off of work, and studying everyday after work (I work until 9:30pm est time) for 2 hours, and not going to bed until after midnight most of the week, he called me at work just to say he wanted to hear my voice! I almost cried, it was so sweet πŸ™‚ Also my best friend, who is my roommate gave me a hug just because!!! Gotta love them both πŸ™‚
Thank you for your generosity Jennifer!!!

  25. Seeing the cute teenage girls I teach in church always makes me smile! Thanks for another chance to win something!

  26. My smile comes from spending the day with our other ‘crafty’ friends at my house… the talking, eating, laughter and of course creations that come from a day like that are very heart warming

  27. Being able to enjoy a wonderful 3-day week-end with family and friends just relaxing and having fun together.
    My kind of long-weekend.

    Fran Heupel

  28. So many things made me smile today. Everytime I think about going to work, I smile because I get to remind myself that I have the day off tomorrow. whoooohooo. I smiled because I just had the best bowl of ice cream with chucks of brownies on top – and the best part was my husband made it all. I love him. he’s the best. I smiled because God has given us the most beautiful weekend and we had the opportunity to enjoy it. I smiled because we were able to pick some more blackberries on our property. We’ve had a bumper crop this year and they just keep coming. I smiled because I have a wonderful son who just started college this week – I’m so proud of him. This has been a weekend that I have spent a lot of time thinking about our blessings.

  29. Well…when you wrote this post, 9/3…the thing that made me smile that day was it was my birthday :)…but today…my honey bought me a hydrangea plant that I have been wanting and that made me smile too πŸ™‚

    Charmaine

  30. Something that made me smile today………After a hard day at work…walking out to the parking lot to leave and found my wonderful husband there waiting for me. Its the little things that matter most. :)Its wonderful that you are doing the card drive for KATE!!!! My prayers out to her and her family!

  31. i smiled today when i looked over at the couch and saw my husband laying on the bottom part of the couch and my 4 year old laying on the top part of the couch. they both looked so cute. i’m lucky to have both of them in my life.

  32. My favorite motto is “We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.”
It’s been raining all week! Today is first day of sunshine and that’s what made me smile on Monday πŸ™‚

  33. I have plenty to smile for – every day. But today I had an extra reason to smile. My grandma lives with my uncle and aunt and they have been so amazing to her. She turned 98 on Friday and I just found out this morning that they took her to Disneyland for her birthday. Yes, that’s right – Disneyland for her 98th birthday. How special is that? I can just imagine how big she was smiling all day long. I remember so fondly our trips to Disneyland when she was a younger woman and how much she loved it. I will be smiling for a while from this one!
