Giveaway!

I haven't done a giveaway lately – I think it is time…

Here is a card I made a long time ago at a stamp retreat.  (I so hope I haven't shared it already!)  It literally used scraps and such I had laying on my workspace.  I just love how several of my favorite products landed on one card. 🙂

022309 CTMH

022309 CTMH Close Supplies: BasicGrey patterned paper; Close To My Heart rub-ons; Prima flowers; Hero Arts notecard and pearls; vintage text paper; Tim Holtz Distress Ink and inking tool

So, I thought I would share some of Close To My Hearts' fabulous rub-ons, along with an ink.  These rub-ons have several sheets in a pack – love it.  They have some of my favorite rub-ons!  For a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post telling me your best money-saving tips.  (We could all use a few of those these days, huh?)  On Friday at 11:59pmEDT, I will pick a winner of these goodies…

Prize

Have a good night and good luck!

(Oh, and I am with many of you on DWTS.  Not sure it is still a "family show" for us.  Too much talk of Playboy, jail, jacka** and skimpy outfits.  Not sure yet…)

I’ve done some recycling with my crafting. I’ve used cereal boxes (or similar weight) to make ATC’s and backgrounds. Cover them with gesso let dry and then scribble water soluble oil pastels. Follow that with some matte medium and you’ve got a great background.

I love your card. My two favorite colors. I save money by using stamps over and over again to make my own embellishments for my scrapbook pages. At home I use an on-line shopping service that delivers my groceries to my house, it cuts out on the impulse buys and makes me plan all of my meals for the week. This way I just buy what I really need. It usally cuts my grocery bills by 1/3.

LOVE your card! So scrappy and yummy! Ok, we have started eating out a lot less – it’s been hard, but so worth it because we not only save money but we’re surely saving calories, too! Thanks for the chance to win!

Since I often get bored with patterned paper very quickly, my mom and I like to buy a pad of patterned paper that usually has atleast two sheets of each pattern and then split it (and the cost). So we both get great paper at half the price, even cheaper if we use a coupon at Michael’s and we don’t have a lot of extra paper that we are not going to use just because we have moved on to something else.

  5. Janell says:

I love the card and I also make tons of cards out of my scraps.

My money saving tip is we have a wood burning stove in our home and we burn every possible day that we can in Utah. We do watch the air guality index. We have our three kids help us cut, split and haul wood to use. It keeps the basement nice and warm with the bedrooms staying cool upstairs. I am also on my kids for turing off lights and electronics when they leave the room.

I found a claerance are in Michael’s craft store that has damage items. I was able to get some shadow boxes that were chipped for $10.00 regular $80.00. I could fix these up!
Frame department seems to have a damage clearance section!

My biggest money saving is make a list and only buy what is on the list. I am a huge impulse shopper so I now make a list of things as I run out or realize I need something. I only buy what is on my list. I also avoid the clearance sections!

I so love this card…TFS!!! As far as a “money saver” for me…I like to cut my letters 5+ times and stack them to make “chipboard” titles with my Cricut…gotta have “chipboard” afterall 😉

Thanks and have a great day!!

    Misty

    love this!
thanks for sharing about using scraps….something we all can probably try to do more of…I’m challenged to do just that!

    thanks for sharing!

Love the Card Jenn 🙂 My money saving tip is to find your fabric, ribbon and old books at thrift stores 🙂 An oldie but so much fun 🙂

Love those Rub Ons! Zoe P

I use all my scrapping leftovers for cards; I love using cheaper cuts of meat in the slow cooker during winter and can get a couple of meals from each batch; I also take coffee from home to work instead of stopping off on the way for bought coffee- I have a whizz-bang espresso machine so I might as well use it!!

To save money I try to stay at home as much as possible because when I’m out and about I tend to spend money on things I don’t need LOL!!!

  13. Claudia F. says:

Beautiful card! Instead of buying those expensive stamp scrubbers, I buy replacement pads for a paint pad at the home improvement store. They are so cheap that you can throw them away when they are really dirty and they do a wonderful job.

Loved the card. But then again I don’t think there is a card of yours that I have seen and not loved:). As for a money saving tip where we live if you use water between 10:A M and 5:00 P M and between 10:00 P M 4:00 A M Mon- Sat and all day Sun. it is cheaper. I am a SAHM so I try to do all of my laundry and run the dishwasher during those off peak hours. I like to set the dishwashers timer after the dinner dishes are all in so it will go on after 10:00. I have been known to forget to turn the dishwasher on before going to bed. This way I never wake up to dirty dishes.

  15. Beth Bo. says:

I’ve been contemplating giving up my one a day drink of coke to save a little money. Haven’t done it yet, though…but we’ll see.

  16. Margie Geisler says:

I save by taking a reusable water bottle to work with me. I do not buy bottled water or soft drinks. Lots cheaper! I also buy meat in bulk and repackage it in freezer ziploc bags.

My best money-saving tip is to use cash to buy stuff. I started doing that 6 months ago and it really has made a difference.

  18. Julie says:

Love the card! Definately coupons – they do save money here and there!

  19. Melissa C says:

I save money by letting my husband do the grocery shopping (oh DARN!) when i go i tend to pick up things we really don’t need. He gets exactly what is on the list!!!

DWTS — i didn’t like how they kept saying jacka$$….. we KNOW the name of his show. Good greif DWTS give it a break!! 🙂

  20. Debbie Fisher says:

My money saving tip is recycling. It is fun to find ways to recycle items that we might throw away and make into lovely gifts.

  21. Susan says:

Love your card. I could save a fortune (and create for decades) if I only used my stash – LOL! But instead, I try to do all my errands on the same day or days, and because I run out of time or energy that tends to keep me out of stores making impulse purchases.

  22. keandra says:

what about using one sheet of patterned paper for two layouts? i always wondered why, if you have double sided patterned paper, we don’t just do two separate “non bulky” layouts!!! then you can hoard more paper for another time! 🙂

  23. Karim Gomez says:

hi, well a saving tip… mmm well i try to walk the most I can for saving a looot of money, i’m from mexico and the bus isn’t really expensive but if you need to use it a lot your pocket get empty really fast hihi and what a great card ÜÜÜÜ

  24. lexi says:

We switched to energy savings light bulbs, keep our thermostat at 65 (yep, it does get a little chilly and we use coupons! Every little bit helps!

  25. Steph says:

Love the card! Gorgeous! As for my money saving tips – for one, I try to always use a coupon when I buy things. Scrappy stuff is too expensive otherwise! Also, I just invested in an ATG gun which I hope will help me save lots on adhesive!

  26. Kristine in WA says:

Cute card! My trick to economizing is to figure out a grocery list and STICK to it. Its hard especially when you see all the “wants” in the store, but when I stick to our needs it helps.

  27. Nelda Deakins says:

Love your card – colors are terrific! I have been a coupon clipper for years, and combine coupons with specials at supermarket, Hobby Lobby, etc. Now I’m using new/old stuff instead of buying more and more in the stamping dept. Nelda Deakins, aka: nelda mc765 at charter dot net

  28. Jemima says:

    Love the card!

I have two craft related savings.

Firstly, don’t throw out any fabric scraps. My nana has made so many wonderful quilts and blankets from these scraps. Who cares if they don’t match exactly. They’re warm and made with love. What more could you ask for?

Secondly, if you have a pair of jeans which you don’t like anymore then cut them off and pull apart the middle seam. you then use one of the legs to fill in the middle section and wa-la you have a new skirt! I put strips of lace on the added section to make it more feminine. you need to use the denim because it has the strength.

I’m loving all these tips by the way.

    God Bless.

    God bless.

  29. Allison Cope says:

Gorgeous card Jennifer! I love the vintage paper!
My best money saving tip…. create a few cards using the scraps left from a layout. Not only do you already know that your paper coordinate but you also can use up all the small papers so they don’t get thrown out.

  30. Tracey says:

Beautiful card Jennifer! love the vintage paper, it relates to my money saving tip….I always check out my local Sally Ann store. Today I got a cute glass jar to hold buttons for 50 cents and a large bag of assorted colours of tapestry wool to make crocheted flowers for 75 cents. In the past I purchased an old book that I use for my vintage papers. The money also goes to a good cause so it is a win win situation!

  31. Gina says:

I never thought I’d hear myself saying this in a gazillion years but since my hubby is in mgmt. at Chrysler and they’ve cut back all the OT, that’s put a damper on my spending so I find myself doing a lot of recycling of things that I used to throw away. I also resell things that I no longer use to my friends in the various groups I belong to.

  32. Kim says:

    I absolutely love your card…beautiful!

There are a few things I have done lately to try to save some money. One is to check out the kind of fees your bank is charging for checking, debit card usage, etc. I switched over to a different bank after mine would not budge on some of their charges. There’s plenty of banks out there that need the business and don’t charge any fees! It has been quite a savings & it’s only been a few months.

I’ve also started selling some things on ebay – lots of sporting goods equipment at my house. It has brought in some extra money!

  33. Lisa D says:

beutiful card Jennifer! Love CTMH — I go to a monthly CTMH club and always come away with a layout that makes me smile 🙂

  34. Pam says:

    Hey!
Love it! Reading everyone’s hints has been great, but I’ve not seen anybody mention the Goodwill store yet. On certain days, there is an event that enables you to stuff a bag with as much as you can put in it and it is only $1. It is so much fun taking a prom dress with all it’s frilly stuff and repurposing it. Silk flowers and trims of course, but even the snaps, buttons, or velcro. Not to mention the velvets that can be heat embossed or satins that can be used for flowers. Even the sheers for making patterns for transfering. Lots of great things can be found there and the best part is the money helps others learn a way to make a living.

  35. caroline says:

Don’t go to the mall. That sounds sarcastic, but really, staying away from temptation helps.

  36. gwen says:

Love the card! I also don’t go shopping at michaels, joanns, or ac moore without a coupon. I am planning my scrapbook/craft room, and some of the ways I cut cost for that is to look at goodwill or salvation army store and look for things that can be used in my room for storage, most items cost next to nothing and you sometimes have to use your imagination/craft skills.

  37. Amy says:

I avoid the mall. If I don’t see it I’m not tempted to buy. I’ve looked up Oprah’s site for cosmetics that are just as good as the expensive ones. I hate to cut coupons but I’ve started cutting. It’s hard to cut back on my card making supplies. My local store takes a Michael’s or an AC Moore coupon one day a week. I make a point to shop on that day. And I don’t buy at Michael’s, AC Moore, or Hobby Lobby without a coupon. And online, I look for reducede prices & free shipping.

  38. Megan P says:

i always pack my own lunch never buy, saves me a ton of money, but even if you buy a lunch say once a week, it’s still good, just don’t buy everyday!
    Thanks
    Megan P

Hi Jennifer: Like the card — nice touch to add pearls in the margin! Don’t worry if you’ve shown it before ‘cuz newbies keep coming along (like me).

My husband and I have a business that leaves us no wanting to face the kitchen when we get home so, we are using the crockpot more often. I like one-pot meals and I’m finding lots of recipes to spice up the menus.

  40. karen q says:

Cute card. My best tip would be to eat meals at home and pack a lunch for work. You would not believe the money you save when you don’t eat out.

  41. lee i. says:

I only buy items when they are on sale. I feel guilty about paying full price for non-essentials. And I like joining RAK contests, you never know when you might be the lucky one and get something for FREE. 🙂 It’s a definite bonus to learning something new.

  42. shanshan says:

my saving tip is DONT bring credit card! only have few cash in your wallet! It should save a lot when you go out! (besides online shopping)

thanks for the sharing! love your beautiful card

  43. Jackie says:

Love the card! :)The colors and pretty.
    I have recently joined http://www.thegrocerygame.com

It gives you a list of items on sale at your local stores and you just clip coupons and go shopping. I saved over $100 the last time I went shopping. It’s a great thing and they’ve done all the research for you. I’m actually enjoying going to the grocery store now, which I really hated before!

  44. samantha says:

My best money saving tip is to walk my son the 2 blocks to school, saves money and gas.

  45. Melissa says:

This card is so lovely! Wow.

In all areas of my life, I have been using what I have, and if I’m not using it, I’ve been selling it or donating it. I’m trying to be happy with what I have, instead of wanting more, more, more (which I think is my more natural inclination). I have been stockpiling a little savings this way – a good thing in these times – and I’ve been reestablishing contact with all the fun things that caught my attention previously.

  46. Kim Culp says:

    Thanks for the idea’s

    To save money I married
    my husband, 🙂

  47. Nanette says:

Wonderful card!! Love your use of scraps. 🙂

I save money by buying my favorite bread at Big Lots for half the price. (I love Big Lots!!) I also get some great brand name scrapping supplies for next to nothing there. It’s fun shopping there because you never know what they’ll have the next time you go in!! 🙂

  48. Candy says:

Love the card! 🙂 And wonderful giveaway!

My best money saving tip is to reduce what we use. For instance, I use a disposable facial cleaning cloth. I snip them in half when I open the box and they last twice as long. I also water down my fabric softener or use vinegar instead.

  49. Jennifer says:

I love to read, but don’t like to spend loads of money buying books. Instead, I go to the library and check out books. Our library also allows you to request books and have them delivered to your library of choice, which saves time and gas!

  50. ShawninAZ says:

I’m a coupon shopper. If it’s not on sale and I don’t have a coupon for it I can probably wait to buy it next time. I hate paying full price for those things that you know will go on sale.
