I haven't done a giveaway lately – I think it is time…

Here is a card I made a long time ago at a stamp retreat.  (I so hope I haven't shared it already!)  It literally used scraps and such I had laying on my workspace.  I just love how several of my favorite products landed on one card. ๐Ÿ™‚

Prize

Have a good night and good luck!

(Oh, and I am with many of you on DWTS.  Not sure it is still a "family show" for us.  Too much talk of Playboy, jail, jacka** and skimpy outfits.  Not sure yet…)

Save money and the Earth and be clean at the same time! Get serious and add Bathroom Bidet Sprayers to all your bathrooms. I think Dr. Oz on Oprah said it best: “if you had pee or poop on your hand, you wouldn’t wipe it off with paper, would you? You’d wash it offโ€ Available at http://www.bathroomsprayers.com with these you won’t even need toilet paper any more, just a towel to dry off! Donโ€™t worry, you can still leave some out for guests and can even make it the soft stuff without felling guilty. It’s cheap and can be installed without a plumber; and runs off the same water line to your toilet. You’ll probably pay for it in a few months of toilet paper savings. And after using one of these you won’t know how you lasted all those years with wadded up handfuls of toilet paper. As for water use a drought is always a concern and must be dealt with prudently but please remember that in the big picture the industrial water users always far exceed the water use of household users and in the case of toilet paper manufacture it is huge. The pollution and significant power use from that manufacturing process also contributes to global warming so switching to a hand bidet sprayer and lowering your toilet paper use is very green in multiple ways.

    Beautiful card!

    Love your card!
In terms of money saving ideas, we switched all our light bulbs to the energy saving ones…it’s alittle more money up front but well worth it in the long run.
I also started to do menu planning, which means that we don’t eat out as much. I’m just thankful that my husband has a job and we are all healthy!!

  4. Sarah says:

I save money by using last years calendars and cards sent to me for some great backgrounds on my cards or other paper projects that somewhat disposable. It’s great way to make one of a kind projects.

  5. Josiane says:

    Thanks for the giveaways!

I buy snacks and drinks at the grocery store and then bring them to work so I’d save money when I need drinks/snacks when I am work – instead of buying from the vending machines.

  6. Jenn says:

Our energy/money saving plan this year was to get a new front door. It doesn’t let in a draft, doesn’t have holes where the sunlight can shine in (old door was supposed to be solid! lol). And it closes without slamming! I haven’t’ checked the energy bill, but I’m sure it’s helping, our hallway is no longer cold!

  7. Brenda says:

Thanks for all the great giveaways. I totally agree with you about DWTS and the skimpy attire. Yikes!

Some of my favorite money saving tips include: borrowing books and magazines from the library instead of buying them (really cuts down on clutter, too); stocking up on items when they are on sale (things like cereal, granola bars, Kleenex, etc.); making meals at home instead of going out.

  8. Janet Zeppa says:

Great giveaway! To save money I no longer stop at Tim Hortons on the way home from work. I make myself a cup of tea instead.

  9. Sally Gasparri says:

I go to the local bread thrift store. They carry boxed donuts, bagels, English muggins, buns and rolls, etc. in addition to bread – all at 1/3 to 1/2 the cost in the supermarket. I buy enough for a month at a time and freeze it. This way we never have to make a mad dash to the store because we are out of bread and we save money in the process.

    Love your card.

  10. Stephanie says:

I just love your card–it is so beautiful! One of my big tips is to watch the Sunday paper and online craft sites for the 40 and 50% off coupons to buy my craft goodies! This is a great way to get quality scrap accessories for a lot less!

  11. Terry Enge says:

    Shopping on Craigslist!

  12. Keisha in MN says:

Gotta love Costco! We buy all our meat (chicken, pork shops, ground beef, etc) in bulk and freeze it in smaller portions.

  13. Tere says:

Hmmm, how are we saving money. TV off, it’s weird not to have constant noise. Heat down at night, love lots of blankets! And baking with the kids instead of store bought goods. Each week, a new child chosen baked good fills the lunch boxes. Which, there’s another, we don’t buy school lunches.

  14. Shirley Lee says:

Lovely card. A stamping saving tip is to use Sharpies to color my clean gemstones. We put all of our expenses on an airline card which will earn us miles and sometimes double miles. We were able to fly first class to Italy a couple of years ago. I stay away from craft stores, especially when there are coupons which I feel I MUST use! DUH! I have a virtual stamp store at home.
DQTS is interesting this season. Can’t believe some of the comments this time. Hope it gets cleared up.

I love the card w/ the vintage look & lovely papers & flowers!
I cut coupons & shop sales, whether it’s for groceries or stamping/paper craft items.

  16. jaemom says:

What a fun tip to share! I have 3 young kids (none in preschool yet), so I don’t really clip coupons unless they’re over $1 (per item) b/c I can’t keep up with sorting, expiration dates, and remembering to use them! But I do shop at Jewel/Albertson’s b/c they’re open late and they take expired coupons! So that’s one thing I will do… keep coupons in my purse knowing I can use them anytime. We’ve also not ordered pizza for quite a while (!), and I’ve been trying to come up with meal plans in advance so we don’t end up ordering out on a whim.

What a cute card! I love the colors and your use of flowers.

  17. Angela M. says:

Love the card! Even better when you are able to use scraps to make it!

My money saving tip would be to plan out your meals before you go to the grocery store. That way you do not buy lots of extra things you do not need.

  18. jenink says:

My money saving tip is pretty basic. Don’t buy on credit, if you need/want something, save up and then buy, don’t use your credit card unless you can pay it off entirely before the interest kicks in. The rates are SOOOOOO high, it adds up so quickly and then it is so hard to ever get it back down again.

As far as craft goes, trade or swap supplies instead of ALWAYS buying new. Share postage and order together, or force yourself to not buy more by only having a small storage space for your supplies- you can’t get more until you’ve used up/sold off what you’ve already got!

  19. Kim L. says:

I’ve been bringing my lunch to work more often – saves on lunch money and gas!

  20. Alyssa says:

I have been really trying to cut back lately. One of the ways that I cut back on spending is moving to digital/hybrid scrapping and card making. You can get many things for free and even change the colors and text. There are even free tutorials out there for those who are not computer savvy. One website I love is http://digifree.blogspot.com/ check it out ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. fiona says:

Love the card, the colours everything!!! Money saving tip, I think you have all given great tips and some of them I do which is great. I am currently writing down how much I spend on what when I buy something so I can see where all the money is going to hopefully see where to cut back. It is amazing to see what your money actually goes on.

  22. Cynthia says:

Grabbing one or two things and then coordinating other things from my stash, instead of spending ages looking for That One Perfect Thing. Hate to say it, but it turns out fine, and it’s great to use what I already have!

  23. Char- D says:

I make all of my cards with scraps from my scrapbook and other papercraft projects. After the reasonable size scraps are gone, there are always some tidbits too small to use left over. I put them in a box and when it gets full of these tidbits, I make my own collage or handmade paper with them.

  24. Shae says:

I love some of these tips shared so far! Awesome ideas. My tip is to unplug the cell phone charger. Another standby mode that uses energy. Thanks for a chance to win.

  25. Suz Gray says:

    Cute card.

I’m with you on several of the DWTS stars/comments. It was a bit much. I can’t believe what is on regular tv anymore.

My money saving tip is my homemade thickers. My cricut gets a workout since I use it to make letters for my layouts. I cut multi of each letter & adhere them together. Not only am I saving money by not buying the real deal but I have the size, font & color I need to make interesting title work.

  26. Nan g says:

I save money by using coupons as often as possible for groceries and stamping supplies. Also I shop the ads for specials for the week for groceries and buy in bulk. I buy wherever the best price can be found for what I need. I am much more pick and choose about what stamps and supplies I really need anymore. I’ll have to try the power strip idea.

  27. NancyS says:

What a pretty, vintage-looking card, Jennifer.

$$$-saving tips: First, there are already lots of good tips on here. I’ll try to come up with a few that aren’t already here. We try to be thrifty by timing our gasoline purchases. Most stations raise prices on Friday and reduce them on Sunday night or Monday morning. We try to fill up on Thursday, when prices seem to be lowest.

We recycle almost EVERYTHING, including swapping magazines with others so we don’t all have to buy the same subscriptions, donating “stuff” to Goodwill or people we know who could use it AND buying at Goodwill (you’d be amazed at some of the bargains), passing on half-used gallons and sample quarts of paint to a local swap center AND finding paint for projects at the center, using the blank areas of printed paper for card inserts (after making them acid-free).

My favorite $$-saving tip comes from MyLeeson at paperblessings.blogspot.com/2008/11/tutorial-using-10-envelopes-as.html She uses the decorative insides of envelopes (from bills, for instance) as a card or scrapbook element. Go to the above blog site and see her very cool idea. It made me actually look forward to receiving bills. ;>)

    CUTE cards!!

My favorite money saving tip… read blogs and admire other people’s crafty genius instead of buying tons of supplies for myself ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. Luda says:

I try and not make too many trips to the grocery and for that case the craft stores. If i don’t see it i don’t know what i am missing out on… And i always use a coupon for all my scrap supplies or only buy if it’s on sale…. Thanks for reading
    God Bless

    Money Saving Tips
I think I could write a book but this is the #1 best way to Manage Your Money which in the end saves a HUGE AMOUNT of Money.
***Get a cheque registar software program like MS Money or Quicken’s Cash Manager, you fill in each purchase like a cheque assign categories ie food, clothes phone bill etc. over time it will show you just where your money goes. It will also thru reports show you just how much you’ve spent in your categories over any time period you chose so you can stay on budget
I also have a binder-Excel spreadsheet system that really works
    1. A 3 ring Binder with Jan to Dec tabbed dividers
    *in each months section
    – have reciept envelope (as purchases are entered in software program the reciepts go in the envelope)
$$$a BIG BONUS is I can go back and find a reciept for anything if it needs to be returned.
-list of bills and due dates
-add bills as they come in the mail, sort by due date, marking when paid with date and method paid ie chq # or online
    2. A Spreadsheet with bi-weekly or monthly (depending on when you get paid) income and expense items for each month of the year.
It sounds complicated but isn’t and I would be willing to explain in more detail or send samples of spreadsheets to anyone interested

Great card… As for money saving, I have tried to follow the Duggar’s rule (the Duggar’s are the family in Arkansas that have 18 kids.. Their show is called 18 and Counting on TLC)buy used and save the difference. We also make sure not to leave lights on and turned down the thermostat… The big one is to clip coupons..

  32. Patty W says:

Loved reading all the tips for saving money, especially in this economy! Many of mine are the same as others – with the energy saving bulbs, using coupons, going to costco and buying meat in bulk, repackaging in smaller portions and freezing, etc. I also have found that I cannot go into a craft store and just browse around, I always buy something so now I try to not even go in. And try not to open all the sale flyers that get emailed/posted to you, otherwise you feel like you’ll be missing out or wasting a coupon. Also, when going to the grocery store, they say to try and shop around the perimeter of the store rather than going down the aisles – healthier for you because you are avoiding all the packaged foods and cheaper too!

    Thanks for the fun giveaway!

  33. J. Harmon says:

Oh, I love that card! My money saving tip is to plan meals and write lists for grocery shopping so you don’t end up buying last minute “necessities.”

  34. Nikki M says:

We are starting to buy a lot more online but only with free shipping. Living in the Middle East with 2 kids is challenging but I have found that ordering diapers, formula, etc from amazon or other places really saves $…just have to find a place to store it. I also shop sale adds and always use coupons. I am getting to the point where I won’t buy it if it isn’t on sale. Will have to try the power strip and cutting dryer sheets in half ideas. My hats off to the lady who gave up buying scrapbooking supplies for Lent. Wrote that in my calendar for next year though. Love all of the ideas. Great question!

  35. anthonettev says:

wow, great card! money saving tip: would be just to not eat out that much, but if you are eating out, sometimes Costco offers those gift cards at restaurants that are worth $100 but you only pay $80. Every little bit helps right? cutting coupons is also another tip!

dwts: i agree. i wanted to watch it because of shawn johnson but yeah, i don’t know about the rest of the cast. jail, playboy, rehab? what is happening?

  36. elizabeth says:

Hi – lovely card and giveaway. my money saving tip is i shop at goodwill. 80% of my wardrobe is from there as well as household furniture and other items.

  37. Ally H says:

As soon as I wake up in the morning, I open most of our blinds and windows to let the natural light and fresh air flow through the house, saves a lot on air freshners (they never smell too nice anyway!) and it makes a wonderful fresh start to the day ๐Ÿ˜€

Oh and avoiding the shops is the BEST way to save a whole heap of money!!!! Just dont go there, avoid spending money altogether LOL

  38. Kristine S says:

These look adorable. Money saving–we don’t eat as often and we are planning meals during the week so that we grocery shop smarter.

  39. Carol says:

I love all of your cards , ALWAYS ! You are my card making idol. I don’t have many ,new tips to add. I buy in bulk, freeze, cook homemade-don’t skimp on quality especially paper products ( cheap toilet paper or paper towels are the pits ). As for scrapping, I search for sales online, check free shipping, search out discount codes and only buy scrapbook supplies with coupons or on sale.Lastly, I make bento lunches for my children’s school lunches. Containers are washable and it is green, no paper waste.they love seeing what I put together for their eating pleasure.

  40. Joni Ward says:

We seldom eat out, but when we do it is with a coupon. I’m a coupon girl. I buy when things are on sale and stock up. We also eat our leftovers for lunch the next day and we pack our lunches and never buy drinks at a restaurant. i love your ideas and look daily for new ideas. Thanks for sharing your talents.

  41. Michelle Bingnear says:

Cute card – love the rub-ons!

Packing my lunch is my best money saver.

  42. Great Card! My savings tips are: bringing my own lunch at work instead of going out buying something at the corner store like others co-workers do (I figured out that I saved almost 40$/week!) . For spcrapbooking supplies, I allow myself to spend 20$ each week (a girl need a little rewards sometimes!). This way, I really think before I buy an item, and for the more expensive ones,I save 2 or 3 weeks (20$/week) and after I go buy what I need.

  43. Shari says:

I love the idea of using up scraps. I am keep everything. I even keep the dots that come out of Martha Stewart punches to use in shaker cards, etc. Thanks for sharing.

  44. Debi says:

My card making/scrapbooking way to save money is to step away from my local scrapbook store and use what I already have!! You are right about the costumes on DWTS..skimpy.

  45. Candy says:

Beautiful card. I love the old page from a book.

  46. Holly S says:

Coupons, coupons, coupons…use them online, off line everywhere…don’t buy anything unless it’s on sale unless you absolutely need it…not want it, need it. Everything goes on sale so just wait!

  47. Karen Nuce says:

Cute card…I use all my scraps too!

As far as saving money, I am a total stamp collector/hoarder/lover and I have tons of them. To resist buying new trendy ones, I have started buying rub-ons instead. Much cheaper not too mention easier to store. See why I am excited about your giveaway?

  48. Jennifer G says:

In the winter we leave the thermostat down and use a space heater int he room we are in. Or build a fire and it will warm the whole house! Only downfall to that is it makes it very dry in the house.

    Love your “scrap” card! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  49. Debbi says:

Money saving tip…..Don’t go grocery shopping with my grandchildren….a big money saver!!!!!!! As for scrapbooking, a friend and I share paper, embellishment and rub-on packs and split the cost. I’ve never used Close to my Heart’s products so I would love a chance at this give away. Have a great day.
