Giveaway!

I haven't done a giveaway lately – I think it is time…

Here is a card I made a long time ago at a stamp retreat.  (I so hope I haven't shared it already!)  It literally used scraps and such I had laying on my workspace.  I just love how several of my favorite products landed on one card. 🙂

022309 CTMH Close Supplies: BasicGrey patterned paper; Close To My Heart rub-ons; Prima flowers; Hero Arts notecard and pearls; vintage text paper; Tim Holtz Distress Ink and inking tool

So, I thought I would share some of Close To My Hearts' fabulous rub-ons, along with an ink.  These rub-ons have several sheets in a pack – love it.  They have some of my favorite rub-ons!  For a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post telling me your best money-saving tips.  (We could all use a few of those these days, huh?)  On Friday at 11:59pmEDT, I will pick a winner of these goodies…

Prize

Have a good night and good luck!

(Oh, and I am with many of you on DWTS.  Not sure it is still a "family show" for us.  Too much talk of Playboy, jail, jacka** and skimpy outfits.  Not sure yet…)

money saving tip: lol let me know if you know of any too… Saskatoon Sk Canada: for the last week has been -40’s with windchill…. but we have hit into the -50’s we have everything set to be at a lower temp during the day and when we are sleeping other then that we snuggle under the blankets on the couch instead of punching that thermostat up!!

great cards love CTMH stuff =D

Great card adn thanks for the giveaway! Goodies look awesome! Ok so money saving tips, this is what I do:

    1) Shop at WalMart!
    2) Change all brands to Wal Mart brands, exception laundry and foods that do not have a cheaper versions
    3) Eat out once a week and try and find coupons. Our latest fav place is IHOP, their specials (which they always have) are $6.99 for eggs, sausages and hash browns AND pancakes!!
    4) Instead of going out, buy $3 puzzles (Big Ben) they take us a week of evenings. We have also been playing board games!

They are my main ones….having a hard time applying the rules to scrap supplies though lol!!

I found that planning our family meals in advance (I do a fortnight at a time) that I have been saving a fortune! It’s important to build a couple of ‘leftovers’ nights into the plan.

  4. Diane says:

Ooohhh, the card is breathtaking! I suppose the best money-saving thing I can do is shop in my own stash. It’s amazing how the creativity flows when you look at things with new eyes!

    =) Diane

I switched to tea at Starbucks instead of the ‘high maintenance’ drinks – so much cheaper, and healthier too. Now just need to break the Starbucks habit all together! 😉

    Love the card!!!

My money saving tips would be to use coupons as much as you can.
I always use a coupon whenever I shop at Joann’s or Michael’s no need to pay full price for anything.
Also turn your furnace down to at least 65 degrees and don’t run it unless the weather dips below 40 degrees.
Clip coupons to use on your groceries shop at stores that double the value of your coupons. I like shopping at Kroger.

    Have a great week!!!

Pretty card! Thanks for the giveaway!

Hubby and I try to pack our lunches as much as possible… we will cook a meal for four instead of two and immediately put the extra portions into containers for lunch the next day. This has also helped me lose weight because it limits my portion.

We buy our bottled water in bulk (36 bottles for about $5-6). I use our crockpot a lot right now–it’s perfect for making large pots of beans, chili, etc. What I like the most about it (besides not having to be home) is that it turns not-so-great cuts of meat into really tender pieces. First thing we lamented about moving to Oklahoma City was no more Costco! 🙁 The cuts of meat at Sam’s Club are not nearly as good as Costco, and are sometimes more expensive. So, that’s where the crockpot comes in handy.

Lovely card! My money saving tip is to shop the clearance first at clothing stores. I try to never buy anything full price!

  9. Emma says:

Great Card. For saving money we paid all are credit cards last year and now we are only buying with cash, which make us think twice before buying something. We are also cooking more at home rather than eating out.

  10. Shelley P. says:

My husband has been laid off from two jobs in one year. It’s recession! We have had to make some changes to save $$. Here are the following examples:

-cutting one cell phone out [sharing one cellphone]
-using candles rather than lights at night
    -disconnecting tv [reading more!]
    -using lower energy bulbs
-reusing dryer sheets [using it twice]
-reducing to one stop at Starbucks or local coffee shop for a treat once a month
    -not dining out
    -using coupons
-buying things in bulk [a friend gave me a Costco membership – only buy food; nothing else]
    -homemade snacks [muffins, cookies, etc]
    -simple birthday parties
-visiting library for books to read
-spending time at the park or free family-oriented venues
-getting rid of the car and using transit or biking with a child trailer [then getting a Co-op car membership for when we need it]
    -walking everywhere
-making juice from frozen instead of tetrapaks
-turning down the heat and wearing more sweaters
-re-mortgaging our home to fit my income level
-shopping for kids clothes at Value Village [I’ve had some great finds!]

All of these things have benefitted us in the last year and we are able to use the money we saved to take a trip to visit our family across the country.

It’s been hard but we’ve done well, I think.

    Oh, I love those rub-ons!

  11. melissa says:

I love the card, the tips and my little piece of info is to do your research, I buy printer ink off of ebay and get 12+ pieces cheaper than just buying one refill, this is great since I love my printer for printing photos and much more…

  12. Laci says:

My best $$$ saving tip would be Stay Away from SB stores! lol Ok, actually I shop at thrift stores a lot for cool gifts and storage ideas, usually with a little creativity and supplies I can make something cool.

  13. Jane says:

Great card! Always always make a list when going grocery shopping and stick to it! Buy on sale (stock up when on sale) and I always ask myself…….do I really NEED that or just WANT it!

  14. Toni says:

Whoa, there are lots of great ideas here! I will have to try a few! I have a few idea about how I save money. I do buy in bulk from a club store, but only when the cost is a good deal (you have to know your regular grocery store prices). We also plant a large vegetable garden and have several fruit trees. I spend huge amounts of time in the summer processing food for freezing and canning, but it really pays off and I know how it was grown. (Now is the time to get started with your seeds if you want!) We also raise our own pork, beef and chicken. Thanks for the question!

  15. Kelly Marie says:

    I love that card!

A great money saving tip is before buying anything online type into google that store’s name with the words “coupon code” next to it. You would not believe the money I have saved with free shipping codes or 15% off codes. Every little bit helps!

  16. Wendy Swenne says:

Oh how I love this card! Great colors.

For money savind, I go shopping for groceries with an full stomach. So I don’t put more (sweets and chips) in my shoppingcart than I had planned for.

  17. Kimberly says:

My best strategy is to stay out of the stores in the first place!

  18. doris says:

money saving tip? as far as stamping and crafting is concened I save all scraps that I can use in future, I use them to stamp small elements or sth, when it comes to everyday- life-money-saving I prefer to take a short shower than taking long bath

  19. Karen NZ says:

Love the card! How do you come up with all your ideas?!

On the home front one of my money (and time) saving hints is to stock up particular cuts of meat or chicken pieces when they are on special at the supermarket, marinate them then freeze in layers (with sheets of plastic in between the layers) and once frozen, bag them up in a resealable bag so they are free flow. A great time saver during the week when trying to plan meals – just bring the chicken or chops out of the freezer the night before to defrost in the fridge so they are ready to be grilled or roasted for dinner.

With scrapbooking I often make my own minialbums by buying large sheets of chipboard and cutting them down to the size of the pages I want and either bind the pages together or use ribbon or metal rings. When doing layouts which involve layering several papers, I will sometimes cut out the back of the lower layers that are being covered up by the top layers.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  20. Fifi-T says:

Best crafy money saving tip… use what I’ve already got before I buy anything new. Best money saving tip for life, walk rather than take the car or bus.

  21. Szilvi says:

It’s easy: don’t go shopping. 🙂 Really… I try to avoid all the malls, moreover I haven’t been to any supermarkets in the last four weeks. We usually have lunch at work and have only a cup of tea or yoghurt for dinner. (Not only money saving, but also healthy) If we need some milk or bread, we go to the nearest grocery. There you won’t buy anything you don’t really need.

  22. Welsh Kiwi says:

Go out and have a coffee and something nice just once a week instead of 5 days like I used to. One- you’re saving money and two- when you only do something once a week it becomes special and you really look forward to it!

  23. Jeanie Nieva says:

money saving tip – make a budget and stick to it. also, check and compare prices before buying impulse buying can cause a lot of problems. 🙂

  24. Hi Jennifer, the rub-ons look great. Lovely give away.
My best money saving tip is: when I see something in a store I immediately want I walk away and discuss with myself if I really need it, need is different from want. And I use up scraps.
    Eveline.

  25. Karen from Ontario says:

Thanks for a chance to win some candy. My best money saving tip is…sadly…stay away from your local Michaels store. When I go there I always spend too much money~ LOL. I guess using coupons is one way I try and save a bit of money. We also have a card for the grocery store that earn points that can be used to buy groceries in the future. It is amazing how quickly you can rack up the points.

  26. Laurie Gelo says:

What a great card that you made with your “scraps”. I love it.

One money saving tip that I do now is to wash almost all our laundry in cold water. I am completely happy with the results and don’t see any difference in the cleanliness of them. But I do see a difference in my electric bill. Also we have turned our water heater down so that the water out of the tap is at 120 degrees (which is still plenty hot but not scalding).

  27. Heather Ruwe says:

    LOVE that card!
My best money saving tip is to buy early. I look at the clearance section at Target all the time and if their is a toy at a great deal, I will get it then even if it is April and I am buying it for my nieces or nephews for Christmas.

  28. kris says:

    Love your blog.
For me, my best money saving tip is to stay out of the stores because I can always find something.
Also, I just bought something at PEACHY CHEAP–great prices for scrapbooking stuff………I need to add stay off the internet as well to save money. 🙂

  29. loriann says:

My money savings tip is, avoid the stores. I send my DH to the grocery store and he only buys what is on the list. Not an impulse buyer like me..We also sit down as a family and plan out a weeks worth of meals that we write in a NB. It saves time and money at the end, plus we can rotate meals etc. Love the tips and the pretty colors on the card..

  30. Jett says:

    Another gorgeous card. 🙂

There’s alot of great money-saving ideas listed already. We bought a Brita water filter system (the pitcher) and use that instead of buying bottled water, I also cut the Olay face wash cloths in 1/2. Several of us from work share our coupons. we each look through the ones we get from the paper, and when we’re done, we go through each others. It has worked great!

Thanks for the inspiration to create and save!

  31. janet says:

I love aged books and paper so that card is right up my ally. I don’t go to the mall unless I have a mission- like a b-day gift, and then only take a few dollars more than I want to spend. I also try to make meals with what I have in the pantry cause I’v been known to buy things I already have 5 of. Thats my little contribution, have a great day. Janet

  32. COUPONS! I am coupon crazy! I buy perishables every week, but all the other stuff I have a “stockpile” and only buy those items if they are on sale AND I have a coupon. There is a blog I go to every Sunday http://www.mommysnacks.net (Cincy area) that helps me match up my coupons to local store ads.

    Great giveaway!!!

  33. Melissa says:

I like to make things as presents. For a baby shower this week, I made a tag blanket and an envelope pouch to carry little baby accessories. I had the material here, along with the ribbon for the tags. And of course, I made my own card!

  34. Leslie Murphy says:

Money saving tip–that’s hard! I cook every night, so I pack lunches to take to work, and I’ve a big fan of the online coupon sites. Also, all of my groceries are purchased at Wal-Mart and I have them price match items on sale at other groceries.

Thanks for the give away opportunity!

  35. Jingle says:

What a neat card! I really like this one! And I LOVE those rub-ons!!! CTMH is my favorite for ink, too!

  36. Helen says:

Lovely card. My money saving tips:plan your menu for the week, write a shopping list before you go food shopping and stick to it so you avoid inpulse buys. Planning ahead prevents the 4pm ‘what shall we have for dinner?’ dilemma. Also, put a jumper on instead of the heating.

  37. sue wisniewski says:

My tip is for stamping. Like you I always have pieces of this paper left over so I have plastic baggies with all my left over scraps. I put each family color in each baggie. This way they are handy whenever I need them. stamping sue

  38. Becky T. says:

I love your blog! Very cool idea to use a page of a book on your card and LOVE the pearls.

My best money saving tip is grocery shop at Walmart since their prices can’t be beat and when you are able, buy in bulk at Sam’s (or Costco, BJ’s, etc). Milk is $3.05 at Sam’s, it’s $4.30 at Walmart and the local grocery.

  39. Jazy Girl says:

Love the card! (Especially how you did the flower….cute!)
I am the queen of cheap lately. I use the library for everything (even CK and Paper Crafts) and use the inter-loan system. I just don’t buy books anymore unless it really inspires me. I use coupons and match them to sales. A dollar Sunday paper with the coupons saves us so much!
I only buy scrap stuff with a coupon and try to use stuff in my stash…you’ll be amazed what you can come up with.

  40. Dolly/scrapthat says:

Well I have found many of your own tips in your book can be used for saving money! Why buy more expensive embellies when you can make them yourself with your supplies and have a custom piece of art? You know your white rub on resist tip? Don’t just use it on paper…take to your white flowers apply rub ons and ink to your color preference, or ink the flower and then rub on black rub ons! How about using versamark and embossing powder on a white flower then inking?? I also hand make my own Prima like flowers…good in a pinch! (though I adore primas! problem is you can’t just buy one…but if you do…buy the assortments and not just one color! that’s a money saver :0)) Alot of this comes not from trying to save money but trying to “think outside the box” and create custom embellishments.

  41. Tina says:

Coupons, coupons, coupons!!! I actually have been keeping track starting this year on the amount I save every month. So far in Jan. I saved $74.45 and Feb. $91.90! That is just for taking the time to clip them, bring them to the store and hand them to the cashier. It more than pays for our Sunday paper! It really does add up!

  42. janet says:

Love vintage look, great use of scraps!…My tip is : everything that goes down the drain like cleaning supplies, body wash, dish and laundry soap, comes from the dollar store. Our dollar store has Name Brands and I save alot right there! I also bought alot of glass plates there and opt to do dishes instead of expensive paper plates. Thanks for the chance to win. Janet

  43. Melissa Miller says:

Coupons!!! I always save between 15 and 20% on my grocery bill by using coupons. I pay for our newspaper subscription one time at the store. The rest is gravy.

  44. Erin Bohland says:

I just love the rub ons and I love the vintage look of your card.

  45. Candy says:

I plan our menu for the week and only buy the items that we need. We usually only go to the store that once maybe twice. It cuts down on the trips to the store for one thing (which usually turns out to be more)

  46. patty c says:

My best money saver is my clothesline – we installed one last summer and I save somuch on my electric bill. Now, I live in the northeast so this winter has been filled with sub zero temps that freeze the clothes and snow drifts that go over the lines – so I’ve had to use the dryer. But when that temp goes above 40 degrees again I’ll be back, hanging our clothes on the line.

  47. {vicki} says:

My best money saving tip is COUPONS!–I love to watch the saving add up at the register.

  48. Robin says:

With the loss of my job and the economy the way it is I have been watching the cost of everything. So, my list could be rather long. But, I will stick to scrapbooking/cardmaking tips. My 3 favorites are use your stash, use coupons and by items that are reusable. I can get a lot of variety by using stamps/ink, masks, punches, paint, etc. instead of buying the pre-made embellies.

  49. Jill Swanson says:

Great card. My money saving tip is to get together with friends and have a “Share Our Stuff” party. We all get to choose “new” crafting items to inspire us without spending any money. Jill S

  50. Cute card.

We have this season of DWTS on the DVR – haven’t had time to watch it yet.

I save money by reusing eveything I can (ribbons off of gifts/packaging, unusal items lying around the house, etc.). I also try to use every last scrap.
