Giveaway!

I haven't done a giveaway lately – I think it is time…

Here is a card I made a long time ago at a stamp retreat.  (I so hope I haven't shared it already!)  It literally used scraps and such I had laying on my workspace.  I just love how several of my favorite products landed on one card. 🙂

022309 CTMH

022309 CTMH Close Supplies: BasicGrey patterned paper; Close To My Heart rub-ons; Prima flowers; Hero Arts notecard and pearls; vintage text paper; Tim Holtz Distress Ink and inking tool

So, I thought I would share some of Close To My Hearts' fabulous rub-ons, along with an ink.  These rub-ons have several sheets in a pack – love it.  They have some of my favorite rub-ons!  For a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post telling me your best money-saving tips.  (We could all use a few of those these days, huh?)  On Friday at 11:59pmEDT, I will pick a winner of these goodies…

Prize

Have a good night and good luck!

(Oh, and I am with many of you on DWTS.  Not sure it is still a "family show" for us.  Too much talk of Playboy, jail, jacka** and skimpy outfits.  Not sure yet…)

Since I have two teenage (eating machines) boys, our grocery bill is where I can save us some money by REALLY hunting down and using coupons. I saved 63% on my groceries the other day by knowing where the sales were and knowing when Triple Coupon Day was – I was so excited! 🙂
I also have not purchased any scrap goodies for months now; it makes me get real creative in using what I already have. Thanks for a shot at the giveaway!

Great card!!! Where did you get the vintage paper???

My husband and I drink a lot of water so instead of buying it in the grocery store where it is super expensive… we take our gallon jugs and go to our local spring water place and fill 12 gallons for just 50 cents. Saves tons of money!!

Also,Amazon.com is a great place to find things, I can usually find the latest and greatest books and alot of scrapbook supplies and goodies!!

  3. SandyB says:

I bring my lunch to work. Coupons! I only buy clothes when necessary and it has to be on sale. I’m using up my scrapbook stash and selling what I don’t want on ebay. It has been 11 months since I bought any scrapbooking supplies.

  4. jennifer shipley says:

To save money. I make my own embellies. I try to make my own design paper with the stamps I have on hand.

  5. Joyce says:

Cute Card! To save a little, we eat at home instead of eating out. Save a lot! Plus I watch adds very closely.

  6. Abby says:

I bring lunch and don’t go out for dinner much. Also, I use the library for books instead of buying them.

  7. Candice says:

My best money saving tip as far as scrapbooking and cardmaking go, is to split supplies with a friend. Most of the time we don’t use all of the supplies in a package so if we split them – there’s no waste and it’s a lot cheaper!

  8. Lisa says:

We just moved last year and the house needs painting. We picked a co-ordinated line of colors in a quality paint
when there was a 2 for 1 sale. We have enough to do most of the house and since we are painting ourselves, we are saving a lot of money.
Love the card with the old book paper.

  9. Laurel says:

My money saving tip: I make my own chipboard letters and such from the coasters in restaurants etc. And I make my own clear acetate accents out of clear packaging. I do both of these with my Big Shot and dies!

  10. Mindy says:

My new motto when it comes to scrapbooking & card making is to use what I have (and I have LOTS!!). I’ve mainly only bought the essentials in the past months, such as adhesive and albums to put the completed pages into.

For groceries & supplies, I LOVE http://www.grocerygame.com. I’ve saved so much money in the last couple of months since I started it and am building up a good supply of the things that we use.

DWTS – had to watch it because Shawn is from our town so we’re cheering for her!

A programable thermostat has saved us a lot of money. Never go grocery shopping when your hungry and save even more by leaving your husband at home.

  12. Cathy M says:

A money saving tip for cardmaking; I enjoy making the “use what you already have” card. A good way to remind you which supplies you already have. Love your card!

  13. Cassi says:

I only buy new stuff at the craft stores if I have a coupon or the item is on sale for at least 40% off.

  14. Brenda Piercy says:

Jennifer you are such an inspiration! I check out your blog every morning. I couldn’t start my day without it. My money saving scrapbooking tip is to go to the “Dollar Store” and buy a bundle of flowers. Separate the flowers and use them on your layouts or cards. You get tons of flowers for just a dollar! I look for flowers that when separated will lay flat. I then stack them or embellish them anyway I chose. Have a blessed day!

One thing my group of friends do is go through all of our stuff anything I no longer think I’m going to use or want, put in a big pile. Example, papers stickers, rub ons, embellishments, also we add the scrap pieces of paper put it all in a big bag and the ladies get together and trade bags, It’s like shopping without the $$$.
    So much fun.
One ladies trash is another ladies treasure. Happy Cropping! Lisa

Planning a two week menu and only shopping once every two weeks has really helped us to save money. We eat out less, because I have something planned and less trips to the store saves alot too. Thanks for the giveaway and the great card. You are always an inspiration to me. Thanks.

  17. Debbie says:

My money saving tip – buy sheetrock repair tape at the hardware store. One is a mesh & the other is paper with holes. The mesh is exactly like “Magic Mesh”, but it only costs about $4 per roll, and you get tons of it. Both of these tapes color well, using any type of rubberstamping ink.

  18. Rosemary D says:

Money saving tip?? I have started unplugging all electrical items that are not “turned on”, but still draw power, like the printer, computer and coffee pot.

  19. StacyS. says:

I’ve been really trying to use what I have instead of just collecting it. That means not being afraid to wreck the nice packaging, etc. and just use it!
Thanks for the chance to win:)

Love your card! I do almost the same things as everyone else, I never buy at Michaels or Joanns without a coupon & I always have coupons because all my friends at my school bring me the coupons from the Sunday paper & they’ve signed up to get coupons online & in the mail. So all those coupons come to me. I hand them out to lucky shoppers that I see buying stuff at Michaels/Joanns, telling them I’m the coupon fairy! I use coupons at grocery stores, buy bulk & freeze it, buy cases of water at Costco..soo much cheaper! Even if I eat lunch out, Quiznos has been putting out buy 1 get 1 free subs coupons, so 4 of us split it at school & it works out to about $2 for lunch..not bad!

  21. Shannon H. says:

My best money saving tip would be to reuse old containers for storage. There is no need to spend $100’s of dollars on new storage containers. Thanks for the chance to win!

  22. pata says:

For saving money on scrapbooking, I have found that if I go through my “inventory” every so often, I find things that I did not even know I had.

  23. Christy says:

    Beautiful Card!

For scrapbooking/stamping… I save money by waiting for coupons! Its soo exciting to get a 50% coupon! I love those!

  24. Justine McCain says:

Coupons, Coupons, Coupons. I don’t buy anything unless it’s on sale. When it is on sale, I buy in bulk. Thanks for the inspiration on your blog.

  25. charlene says:

I’m a big pharmacy hopper. Whenever Walgreen’s, Target or Rite Aid has a $10 or $25 gift card when you transfer a prescription, I take advantage. Me and the kids have allergy meds we need each month so I hop all over the place. Since Jan. I have gotten $75 in store gift cards.

I even forget sometimes where an rx is when it’s time to refill! oh well, if I found $25 on the ground, I’d go out of my way to pick it up…so making a phone call is worth it to me.

    LOVE this card!

  26. Yaritza says:

My money saving tip is coupons. If it’s not on sale or have a coupon I won’t buy it. Another thing is we don’t have any credit cards. So we save money on all those fees they charge you. If we don’t have cash we won’t buy it. It keeps us from buying lots of unnecessery things.

Thanks for the chance to win

  27. joy leith says:

i soooooo love your cards you make really good one. for the money saving tip hahahah you probably thinks a lil funny but i save money by doing laundry. yeah laudry i find money in there of course most of them are my husband hahaha. so i but them in my money jar for scrapbooking and at the end of the month i could have about 100 dallor worth of laundry money hahaha. yeha thats how i save up.

  28. ivy says:

i pay everything with my debit card. if i don’t have the money for it, i don’t buy it or i think real hard before a purchase.

love your projects & cute card!!

  29. Charlene says:

My favorite money saving tip is to look at ordinary everyday items for possibilities. I recently used gold paper wrapping from a pear as the background on a card–it turned out beautiful.

  30. Bettina says:

Beautiful card! My money saving tip is to not buy too much of the fancy pattern paper. I’m trying to distress and use stamps to add flourishes and text background on my plain cardstock. I need to stop buying so much paper and just use what I have! Also using rub-ons to embelish paper (thank you for sharing yours!).
As for family activities to save money, we have started doing more hikes and less things where we have to spend money.

  31. jennifer says:

I scour sales and discount stores for good deals.

  32. Amanda Powell says:

Well, I don’t think I have any tips that haven’t already been shared, but I try to never buy anything for full price. In the spring/summer I love going to yard sales. I have a closet full of clothes for my two little boys to wear, that didn’t cost much at all. They are name brand, cute, clean, and dirt cheap. I started going to them when I was pregnant with my first and I got the greatest stuff for a fraction of the original cost!
Love the card by the way!!

  33. Sandra K says:

Hi Jennifer, I love to read your blog and see your videos on Two peas. What a gorgeus card! We are living on a tide budget also here, over in the Netherlands. These are my tips on saving money:
When you go groceryshopping make a list and stick to it, so that you are not tempted to buy other things. There’s a new season coming and everybody want’s to buy new clothes. Wait just a little while longer because then a lot of clothes are on sale already. And when you have to go somewhere within 3 or 4 kilometers, go by bike in stead of taking your car! This is two for the price of one! You save money and you work on your physical condition!!!
I loved reading all of those tips and I am sure to use some of them!

  34. Mustangkayla says:

My money saving tip is to send dh to the store when I only need one or two things. He HATE going and will go in, grab the items and go. He doesn’t pick up other items that we do not need. Makes our grocery bill a lot lower!

Love those rub-ons, which happen to be my new addiction that I just can’t get enough of! Pretty card too! Love the colors!

  35. mkayteem on scs says:

Love this card and the colors. My money saving tip is no fast food shopping and always clip your grocery coupons! Only by craft items that you need not want. Be careful with the Joann and Michaels coupons, they are dangerous and can suck you in to spending more money than you normally would.

  36. what a super card (as usual!)

My best tip is not to go to the stores. It is much easier if you are not there to see things to tempt you. Also, don’t look in your email newsletters because they will make you want it all, LOL!

  37. Gracie says:

    Lovely cards! Money saving tips:
    -Use coupons
-don’t just turn off electrical appliances, unplug them too.
-recycle (find new uses for certain things)
-scrapbooking wise: use your left over scraps to create cards or new LOs
-create a list of the items you really need when doing the groceries and avoid buying items that are not on the list as much as possible

  38. Katy says:

hmm.. money saving tip? Keep a grocery “price book” where you track sales prices (by the ounce or serving so you can compare different size packages). This way you know that the .50 a box mac’n’ cheese will eventually be .25 and you can stock up then.

  39. To save money, I’ve stopped my scrapping magazine subscriptions and instead scour blogs for inspiration. I use to always run to the LSS the minute new stuff came in and bought without hesitation. Now I’m more careful (do I really need that now when I have a million rub ons at home not even used?). I wait and take my time until the stuff goes on sale or I have a coupon.

  40. Anne Gaal says:

Hi, Jennifer! Gorgeous card! Love the patterned paper you picked out. The rub-ons from Close to My Heart look scrumptious! Thanks for sharing them! 🙂

  41. Kirsty K says:

The best money saving tip I have is to meal plan and only shop once a week. It’s those every 2 day stop offs at the grocery store that kill our budget!

  42. kimberlee says:

That card is beautiful! I was hoping you were giving the card away!! LOL I love how the colors and design ties in.

My money-saving tip is…to buy whole chickens on sale, cook in the crockpot, shred it for a couple meals (chicken pot pie is our fave), save the carcass (hate that word) and use it to make broth. And then you can make 100% homemade chicken noodle soup!

Thanks for confirming our ixnay on the DTWS this season! We watched it last season for the first time and really enjoyed it, but when I saw the star line up, I knew it wouldn’t be a winner. I couldn’t watch a thing with that Steve O in it. I am becoming an old fogey! 😉

  43. Gretchyn says:

Such a cute card. Thanks for always having such terrific inspiration!

My husband and I have always been fairly frugal, which was helpful when he got laid off from his job last August. He found another one in October (YAY!), but we continue to figure out ways we can save. Some of the ones that have helped us:

    1. We went from 2 cars to 1. DH commutes to work with a co-worker, alternating drive days which saves on gas and the car.
    2. We check out TONS of great stuff from our local library for free — books, dvd’s, cd’s, etc. We can reserve titles online and they let us know when they’re available.
    3. Costco, especially for items we can buy in bulk and then freeze in smaller portions. 🙂
    4. Learn to make yummy coffee drinks at home. Ikea sells a really great little battery operated milk frother for less than $3 so you get all of that great foam for your coffee. We also buy Costco Kirkland brand coffee, which is roasted by Starbucks but is 1/2 the price.

  44. Cathy A says:

Oh I have so many things that I can use to save money, here are a few of my tips:-
Use talc in a tissue and rub over card to prevent embossing powder sticking to unwanted places.
Save the cardboard in shirt packaging, it is a great alternative to chipboard.
Use floor polish in place of glossy accents or to create unusual backing papers.
Ironing strarch is a great fixative medium for mica pigments.
Make your own embossing folders for cuttlebug with acetate to create folder and die cut image and waste to create poitive and negative image for embossing.
I could go on…..but I am sure you all have many more tips to share!

  45. Sandi Ragusa says:

Cute card! My money saving tip is when you get to the end of the toothpaste tube (or lotion bottle, face wash, etc.) cut the tube open and you’ll have an extra week of toothpaste!

  46. Jackie says:

Love the book page on this card. Very cool idea. Love the rub-ons, too!

  47. Sarah M says:

    Don’t count me in on the give-away (rub-ons don’t like me). 😉
As far as money-saving tips… we have a great kids consignment store and I try to remember to look there first when buying clothes for my kids. Also, we have SO many kids books and I have to stop buying them and start using the library more… and also borrow movies from there rather then paying to rent.
Hope your having a good day. 🙂

  48. heather says:

What a beautiful card – I love the color combination.

My money saving tips would be:-

    1. Bring your own lunch to work (you have what you like and it can be healthier too.)

    2. Use reusable shopping bags (it is good for the environment and we have to pay for plastic bags here.

    3. Put a sweater on instead of turning up the heating.

    4. Walk as much as you can when doing errands – saves money, good for your health and the environment.

    5. Stock up on the deals of the week from the supermarkets and freeze some for another time.

There are lots more ideas and I’ve enjoyed reading through the suggestions you have received and will be putting some of them into action too. Thanks.

  49. cassie says:

I just love the book page on the card…really cool!
I would say that my big money saving tip is coupons. Not just the ones you cut out for grocery stores and craft stores. I do an online coupon search before I order anything online. I also call and ask if there are any coupons available. Sometimes the customer service rep. will give you one. It never hurts to ask and you may be pleasantly surprised.

  50. Jodie Reimink says:

Use up my stash instead of buying new?
