Giveaway!

I haven't done a giveaway lately – I think it is time…

Here is a card I made a long time ago at a stamp retreat.  (I so hope I haven't shared it already!)  It literally used scraps and such I had laying on my workspace.  I just love how several of my favorite products landed on one card. 🙂

022309 CTMH

022309 CTMH Close Supplies: BasicGrey patterned paper; Close To My Heart rub-ons; Prima flowers; Hero Arts notecard and pearls; vintage text paper; Tim Holtz Distress Ink and inking tool

So, I thought I would share some of Close To My Hearts' fabulous rub-ons, along with an ink.  These rub-ons have several sheets in a pack – love it.  They have some of my favorite rub-ons!  For a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post telling me your best money-saving tips.  (We could all use a few of those these days, huh?)  On Friday at 11:59pmEDT, I will pick a winner of these goodies…

Prize

Have a good night and good luck!

(Oh, and I am with many of you on DWTS.  Not sure it is still a "family show" for us.  Too much talk of Playboy, jail, jacka** and skimpy outfits.  Not sure yet…)

Hi I’ve just found your site and I look forward to seeing what you create everyday.

One money saving tip I do is I cut my dryer sheets in half. Clothes still come out soft and without static but I get twice the number of loads done.

Thanks for all the creative ideas!

  2. Jana says:

What a fabulous card! I love it! (no need to enter me in the giveaway)

DWTS — I don’t know most of the celebrities. I’m old… But I was happy to see Melissa do so well. How brave to do it with just 2 days of practice.

To save money on electricity my husband and I put our TVs and computers on power strips. When we are done watching for the day/night we turn off the TV and the power strip. Even when the TV or computer is off it is drawing power in standby mode. We cut our bill by almost 50% the first month! Nice and easy!

  4. Very nice card. I love the use of the vintage book page.

  5. Sammie says:

Pretty card! When it comes to scrapbooking/stamping, my money-saving tip is to shop on ebay for supplies. I’ve gotten so many tools and stamps on ebay.

  6. Kelly says:

i use to buy hot and cold tea at Starbucks very often. I found out that Whole Foods sells all the tea!!! The cost of a cup of tea at Starbucks almost equal a box of tea at Whole Foods. I make the tea at home or at work when I really need the energy.

    love the card!!!

  7. Judy says:

Love the colors and vintage paper in your card. We love the energy saving light bulbs.
They cost a little more up front but last a lot longer.

  8. Susanne N. says:

One thing I do is really look at how much laundry detergent I put in the washer. You don’t have to fill it to the top to get a nice, clean load of laundry.
I also will not buy anything craft related at Michael’s, Joann’s, Hobby Lobby without a coupon!

  9. Sandra says:

Well, the best thing I have done to save money is give up buying scrapbooking supplies for Lent. So hard!!! other than that the usual like changing out light bulbs, using reusable grocery bags and generic/store brand foods. Thanks for all the ideas for using up scraps!!!

  10. Barbara says:

hmm – must say I am going to try the powerstrip idea and see what is does to my bill…
i had programable thermostats inserted in our home so that our heat goes way down during the night when we are snug under our comforters and down again when we are away at school/work

  11. Amy F. says:

My best money-saving tip is to make one cut of meat last for several meals (i.e. whole chicken to roast, use for soup, casseroles, etc.) Love this card! 🙂

  12. Meg Duffy says:

    love the card.

missed dwts last night, but ds wants to watch because of shawn johnson. wish they would clean it up a bit. don’t mind the costumes so much as that is part of the ballroom stuff sometimes, but the people could be cleaned up some.

as for saving money. there are certain things i will never buy in the scrapbook section. ribbon, plain buttons, floss, etc. i try to make sure i can use an item many times, like my stamps, there are a ton i want, but would only use once, so no need to buy them. always buy on sale or use a coupon when i can.

  13. Winnie says:

I make sure I take lunch to work instead of running out to buy it (that saves a ton) and do alot of cooking on the weekends and freeze it..Saves money and besides, I love my own cooking..Why pay to have someone do it for me?

Love your card…The colors are great together.

  14. Dani says:

Take out all of your spending money in cash… for some reason, I am waaaay more likely to hold onto cash than spend it. It’s so easy to buy, buy, buy using a credit card, but I like the feeling of cold hard cash in my wallet, so I will think twice about spending it and will hold onto it for much longer. Besides that, you can actually see it disappearing when you spend it, so it makes you more aware. Easy to lose track of how much you spend when you use credit cards!

  15. Beth Meier says:

Hi- Regarding DWTS..I was disappointed Mon night with all the talk of Gilles naked in the shower, and the “Sex in the City” talk. Not to mention Jackass, drugs and rehab…My daughter is 6 and we finally turned it off.
Money saving tip…I have started planning my weekly menu around what is on sale at the market..I go through their flier on Sunday and plan from there….

  16. Becs Attwood says:

Great card – love the papers, what Basic Grey line is it from? My latest money-saving idea is buying craft supplies from Trade-Me (NZ version of E-Bay) – I’ve been getting brand new products (mostly Basic Grey & some Making Memories) for 20-50% less than normal retail!

  17. Felicia Tindal says:

I’m such a CTMH fan!!! They always seem to have fun things!

My money saving tip…. at first this isn’t going to sound like a helpful tip, but in the end it really has helped us. Our washer and dryer were about 12 yrs. old and I’ve been having to dry loads of clothes/towels almost 2 1/2 – 3 cycles each and every load…. I figured it was my dryer and was just milking it until we’d need a new one. (I wasn’t paying a bit of attention to how much energy I was using for each load… wow!) Then about 6 weeks ago, my washer pooped out on me (right in the middle of a load) so we were forced to buy another one but wanted to wait on the dryer. We ended up with a nice front loader we found at Lowe’s in the scratch and dent aisle (check for scratch and dents when buying appliances, awesome prices!). Now I can wash a huge load of towels and they are literally dry within 30 – 40 minutes in the dryer!!! It’s awesome! We just received our newest elec. bill today and it was $75 less than last month’s, I’m sure the new washer has helped a lot!

I love reading all of the money saving tips! Thanks for asking all of us to share!

My best money saving tip in the scrap book world is to use what I already HAVE!!!!
I now try to look at new product in terms of the structure of the idea. I always WANT the stuff in the add/etc but I have made myself look at the design not just the product.
Money saving wise in general is to go on line and use the Grocerygame.com. It has lists for my local Krogers. The list have free, cheapest and cheaper. You know what is on sale and don’t have to spend time in the store circulars hunting for bargains. You can see them in list form and print out a list of just the things your interested in and go shopping. Helps take the stress out of shopping and the indecision of is this or that the best deal. I love it.

  19. Carol S-U says:

I buy the big pkg. of ground meat. We typically can’t use it up before it goes, so I’ll take a couple of hours to cook it all up and freeze it in portions for my meals.
Love the colors in the card! I’m liking the mix of elements, too!

  20. Amy L. Weber says:

    What a georgous card…

Money-saving tips: we realized we were spending too much on eating out and buying drinks, i.e. soda. So my husband and I made a pact: No more soda, eat out less. It’s hard, but we’re trying.

I also print coupons from online websites like GrocerySmarts, and save any coupons to grocery items that I do buy.

  21. Asha Patel says:

Hmm…since I love to cook, one of my money saving tips is to grow my own herbs during the spring and summer months. I even freeze basil leaves for use in the cooler months. There’s nothing better than yummy homemade pesto on pastas and grilled chicken!

  22. Lauren Nguyen says:

    cute card.
My money saving tip is to use all the coupons you can. I clip coupons from the Sunday paper and also print them from online coupon sites (like http://www.coupon.com) and I try to use as many as possible each week.

  23. Misty C says:

I actually use my scraps – I used to just discard them but realized I can get so much use out of them and really I love the pages I create with them…not so matchy, matchy!!

and my scrappy girls and I share stuff…between the 6 of us at least 1 will have the newest and latest tool or supply and we all share!

  24. Olivia says:

I gave up fast food for lent. So 40 days without going through a drive thru for food. I did it last year and it made a big difference on my wallet and also on my waist line.

  25. Angelique Bandy says:

Love the card..you have some great ideas.

Money saving tip..I make a monthly menu for dinner and do my best to make meals from what we have in the pantry. This way I save at the grocery and don’t waste what we already have. Some dinners come out great that way.

  26. Tere says:

Coupons!!! I use lots of coupons. I joined a program that helps me organized my sunday coupons and get the most of them in combination with the stores weekly specials. last night i went to 2 stores; in the first one I paid $20.49 and saved $ 28.23 and the second one I paid $ 40.69 and saved $ 73.84!!!!!

before I forget, the card is GORGEOUS!!!

  27. Kim Prince says:

I am loving your card today! Thanks for sharing!

Money saving…hmmm…well, hubby and I take our lunches to work. I also buy a case of water (24), it’s only 4.00, instead of buying a bottle each day, which is .96 cents. I freeze my overripe bananas for future use, they turn black but are great for baking. I also shop around for my groceries, most of the stores are so close together, so it makes sense to buy what’s on sale at each store. When something is on sale for a great price, I usually buy as much as I can and store it away til I need it, such as cleaning supplies, kleenex, that kind of thing. That is all I can think of this late at night! lol Have a wonderful evening and thank you for the chance to win your fabulous blog candy!
    🙂

Where do I begin! I’m am a huge penny pincher! I don’t think I’ve ever made a card from anything but scraps. All of my organizing items are repurposed from around the house or came from the dollar store or I made them myself. I don’t buy anything, scrap related or otherwise, that is not on sale or without a coupon.
    Gorgeous card! Thanks!

My money saving tips also happens to be good for the environment. I am not really crunchy or anything, but it is nice to leave less of a carbon footprint. I switched to rags instead of paper towels about two years ago. It has saved me a lot of money, as well as saving trees. The same thing with switching from disposable plates to just using my everyday dishes. I most recently switched to cloth diapers. I have two kids in diapers and a baby on the way. I was trying to figure out what I could cut. We don’t have a lot of luxuries these days at it is so it is difficult to figure out a place to stretch your money when you have cut pretty much everything. Right now I am cloth diapering the four days a week that I am home and then when he is at the sitters he wears disposables. It is not as bad as I thought it would be. I also have purchased the majority of my cloth diapers used and they are still fabulous. I am still figuring out what works best for me, but so far I love using cloth. We have an HE machine so it really is only two more loads of a laundry a week and it doesn’t use much water at all. I think my boy likes it too; he has been fussing at me when I put a disposable diaper on him to go to the babysitters. I think also reusing, re-purposing things, and buying used all save money and our environment. Thanks for all the money saving tips. It is really difficult in this economy to figure out ways to save.

  30. Ooh i really love the colors on the card, beautiful!

My best money-saving tip when it comes to scrapbooking/cardmaking is to use all the scraps, use up all the decos beror you buy new ones and buy stuff from Ebay and other auktion sites. And get newsletters from all diferent scrapbook stores so you know when you can make a bargain.
    Thats my tips 🙂
    Hugs!

I’m a SAHM so I have bunches of money saver ideas, but I’ll say having a separate freezer and buying when things are on sale saves us a ton of money. I also don’t buy junk food and cook from scratch a lot.

    Love the card!

  32. kmethot says:

To save money I stopped shopping on the internet. I also don’t open e-mails from my favorite internet shopping sites. Taking away the temptation works for me!

  33. cards4ever says:

My best tip would be to improvise on crafting supplies. If you need a embellishment for a project try to make it out of paper or clay.

  34. Latrice says:

Buying things on sale with coupons! I have been a clipping maniac lately trying to save moola on my grocery bill. Pick up a Sunday paper and clip away! Match your coupons to the sales and Vwa La! I’ve saved a ton of money over the last few months this way. You can’t be picky with products, but it helps a ton.

Hope this helps. Talk to you soon Jen.

  35. Don’t buy something because it’s new or you have a coupon or it’s on sale. Buy it because you NEED it (and sometimes you need cute patterned paper). Simple, but it works.

  36. Nancy Hyland says:

hmmm… I like to do swaps, and use scraps. Swaps are great because really, how many of those onsie shaped brads are you really going to use?? that way you get to spread the wealth and diversify your stash for the cost of one or two purchases.

Scraps says it all – why throw away something you already paid for. I did see a neat suggestion in a mag today, scraps or whole sheets of paper you don’t like anymore? use the back!! She used it plain, but you could paint it, ink it, stamp it, etc!! I hadn’t thought of that!! It’s always the simplest ideas 🙂

  37. AndiD says:

Great card! My best tip is to take the time to get organized. I spend so much less money when I can find what I have!

  38. Linda E says:

Great card and giveaway, Jennifer. I’ve been turning the heat down during the day when I’m out and have my kids use the dimmer switch when they are only playing on one side of the basement. As far as scrapbooking, I’ve been staying ut of the stores. I can never leave Michael’s or AC Moore emptyhanded!

  39. Lauren S. says:

I love that card – I like the use of the vintage paper!!

To try to save money on scrapbooking stuff, I never buy anything from JoAnns or Michael’s without a coupon or unless it is on sale. They have sales there so much, I feel there is no point buying it now for full price when in a week it will probably be on sale!

  40. Devon says:

I love your card! And I too use all of the scraps that I can. Nothing gets thrown out at my scrap table, not even scraps of ribbon. I’ll find a way to work it in somehow!

Here in Alaska we’ve got an energy rebate program through the state. We just had an inspector come into our house to find ways to help us be more energy efficient. One really great thing we did this year was install a storm door, which is saving us a bunch on our heat. We were losing a lot of heat through our drafty front door. We’ve also switched all of our light bulbs to the high efficiency bulbs. And I am the light nazi in our house. If you’re not in the room, the light doesn’t need to be on!

I think we’ll try the powerstrip trick too! Great idea!

  41. April Z says:

Well, I’m not sure I have any tips that are new, but my biggest money saver is simply living on a budget. It’s hard sometimes, but it’s worth it in the end. Thanks for sharing all your creativity. I look forward to checking your blog everyday.

  42. Mindy says:

I do a fair amount of shopping online and I try to remember to always do a quick search for a coupon code before I purchase. You can usually find a code for either free shipping or 10% off at tons of sites. I’ve saved quite a bit by just taking a minute to look for a coupon code.

  43. MotherofJackals says:

My best money saver is to not cut corners to much. I have found after many years and many products if you buy cheap (ie poorly made AND low cost) 9.9 times out of 10 you get what you pay for. Then it comes back to bite you at the worst time. Learn to spot quality…not hype or fashion but real quality and it will pay off huge.

Also budgeting is like dieting it you cut back and deny yourself to much you will fail. So plan little fun things even on a tight budget…have stuff to look forward to otherwise it gets depressing.

Finally buy good food. Something about having a good meal each night makes so many other things not such a big deal. No need to spend huge $$$ but buy things your family truly enjoys not just what is on sale that week.

  44. ana roat says:

We shut the heater off when daylight savings time begins. In sunny California you can do this with little discomfort. Besides mom always said put on a sweater if your cold!

    Pretty card!
    ana

  45. Linda Gerig says:

    love your blog. Linda Gerig

  46. Elaine says:

That’s a great card Jen! I’m not so good with budget tips though 🙁 Since we have oil heat which runs about $1500/fill up (every other month or so), we decided to start turning the heat down when we are gone for the day and at bedtime (the auto thermostat did it too, but often the kids would move it to ‘override’ at a high temp to get warm, and then forget to move it back to normal….so we try to remember to move the setting back – especially at night when everyone is warm and cozy in bed!
I think we’ve gone longer on a fill up and though it’s chilly when I first get up, it makes me appreciate what we’ve got even more!

  47. Sanji says:

My money saving ideas…we don’t buy lunches and snacks at work anymore, we pack our own lunches…we don’t buy bottled water anymore, we just remember to fill a bottle before we leave the house…we are not eating out as much and we have been using coupons a lot more lately. Thanks!

  48. rowee says:

for my scrappy saving tip! Instead of buying expensive magazine, I just visit every blog like yours. On that I really got some great tips and tech and some inspiring creations.
Thanks for the chance to win!! REally yummy rub ons. Hope I win!!!

    Hugs
    rowee

  49. Jennifer says:

I just love how scrappy cards turn out, and yours is great!

For me, a money saving tip is to not even go shopping or go to the site of any online stores where I shop. I go grocery shopping and get other supplies for the house, but that’s it right now.

  50. Jodi says:

Great card. I am always inspired by what can come from “scraps” that might otherwise be tossed out. As for money saving ideas…we try very hard to use what we have first…whether that is meal planning and using items that I’ve bought in bulk to lower costs or using as many scraps from craft projects as possible. We recycle containers for creative storage ideas too. We also try to earn something extra when we make a purchase. We use our credit card that earns airline miles when we buy groceries. We pay it off each month (so it doesn’t cost us more) but the miles earn us a free ticket to fly home to see the grandparens.
