Embossed Watercolor Lift + GIVEAWAY
Hello! Today I am revisiting an old favorite technique of mine… watercolor lifting. This is a great way to create fun backgrounds with products you likely have!

I have done many videos that involve variations of watercolor lift techniques in the past. (See below.) Today I am focusing on colorful backgrounds created with markers or ink and background stamps.
By the way… on the envelopes of my cards, I used the Stamping Village Holiday Seals Stamp Set (SSS | HA). This is an amazing set with designs from lots of our favorite companies! More on that below, too.
My first card shares a basic watercolor lift with embossing. After creating a watercolor background on Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper with Tombow Markers, I clear heat embossed the Hero Arts Nordic Holiday Stamp (SSS | HA). I generously sprayed it with watercolor and then wiped the surface to “lift” the color… causing the un-embossed areas to get lighter. The color under the embossing stays darker. Such a fun look!
I also added a silver heat embossed Hero Arts Layering Nordic Tree (SSS | HA) and a Hero Arts Greetings Christmas Message (SSS | HA) sentiment… and Lucy’s Cards Silver Jewels.
I created the next background in the same way… but stamped the Hero Arts Nevermore Stamp (SSS | HA) background with Lucky Clover Distress Ink before clear embossing. It adds some fun texture.
I added simple die cuts from the Hero Arts Christmas Message Die Set (SSS | HA) and a few white Hero Arts Enamel Dots (SSS | HA).
Distress Inks also work great for watercolor lifting. Here, I used various colors to create a watercolor background. I then clear heat embossed the Hero Arts Winter Village Stamp (SSS | HA)… and then “lifted” the color from the un-embossed areas. Simple. Quick. Fun!
I added a simple stacked Hero Arts Holiday Message (SSS | HA) die cut and jewels.
Here is another example, but this time using bright colors of Tombow Markers for the watercolor. The embossing was done with the Hero Arts Nevermore Stamp (SSS | HA).
I added a Hero Arts Snowflake Cluster (SSS | HA) stacked die cut and white Hero Arts Enamel Dots (SSS | HA). The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Greetings Christmas Message Stamp Set(SSS | HA) and I cut the label using the Hero Arts Nesting Rounded Rectangle Dies (SSS | HA).
The embossed watercolor lift piece on this next card was created with the Hero Arts Arch Pattern Stamp (SSS | HA). I turned the piece into an ornament with the Hero Arts Poinsettia Ornament Die (SSS| HA) and added a Hero Arts Peace (SSS | HA) die cut.
On the background, I stamped the Hero Arts Noel Background (SSS | HA).
This next card showcases the Hero Arts Noel Background (SSS | HA), Hero Arts Snowflake Pattern Die (SSS | HA), and Hero Arts Merry Christmas Banner Die (SSS | HA).
I love that background! So much texture.
This technique is fun with Antique Linen Distress Ink and Tsukineko Shimmer Spritz instead of water. It creates a sparkly gold look. (I wish I could capture it in the photo!) I also added a Hero Arts Paper Layering Poinsettia Die Cut (SSS | HA).
That flower is so pretty… and easy to make.
My last example uses the Hero Arts Reactive Inks (SSS | HA). They are amazing with this technique! I also used the Hero Arts Graphic Snowflake Stamp (SSS | HA) and Tsukineko Shimmer Spritz for the background.
The Hero Arts Merry Christmas Die (SSS | HA) makes for a quick card!
