Video: Double Die Cutting + BIG Giveaway!

Good morning! Yesterday, I shared on Instagram a photo of Thanksgiving place settings I made as a gift. Many people asked if I had a video showing them, so here it is! I think you might like the double die cutting technique…

So a teacher at my son’s school asked me for ideas for making place settings for her Thanksgiving dinner of 40. Me – being who I am – I decided to make them for her as a gift. I think teachers do SO much and get too little recognition. So if this makes her feel appreciated, then the time spent making them was well worth it!

I used the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Grand Maple Die to cut 80 total leaves from Gina K Fresh Asparagus, Honey Mustard, and Cranberry Tart cardstocks… and wood paper. I then double die cut half of the leaves to make them smaller/shorter… simply by shifting the die slightly and cutting again. This is a great technique for getting the most out of your die cuts.

I then gold-glitter heat embossed a mix of sentiments on the smaller leaves. (I used sentiments from the Winnie and Walter Happiest of Holidays, Reverse Confetti Walk by Faith, Lil Inker Designs Leafy Greetings, and Hero Arts Joyful Thanksgiving sets.) The MISTI stamping tool is very helpful when doing this! Finally, I used an Ink Blending Tool to quickly add a bit of matching Distress Ink to the edges.

I also used the MISTI and it’s magnets to hold the leaves while I added a twine and ribbon bow. Worked like a charm!

Thank you for the giveaways, but I’m also enjoying all of the ideas & tutorials that you are sharing with us. I try to concentrate on making cards, because of health issues I can only craft for so long (sadly). The inspiration that you have given me is beyond words! I truly can’t express my greatfulness enough.

Yes I have made Christmas decorations. First year I was married I wanted our own tree and really couldn’t afford too much. My husband got a tree from the bush, it was huge. So I glittered styrofoam balls and strung lights and that was it. Easiest tree I have ever decorated. I do wish I had taken pictures. That was in 1974. I have tried to make something every year since.

Before I had my cricut and cuttlebug I wanted to make a thankful leaf banner to take to my mother in laws to use as decoration for dinner. I hand cut a bunch of leaves and wrote everyone’s name on one, or in the case of my youngest it was a picture of a babyface. ( We didn’t have a name picked yet) Here it is years later and she still hangs it up every time!
