Video: 6×6 Background Stamp Storage

Hi there. Today I am (finally!!!) sharing my 6×6 background stamp storage.

[All supplies are linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Affiliate links used. To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

I have been using this system for all my cling background stamps (6×6 and smaller) for awhile now and am very, very happy with it. Therefore, I felt it was finally time to share! (I like to live with a system a bit before I share it, just to be sure I would recommend it 100%.)

SLEEVES

I keep my background stamps in THESE sleeves that are approximately 6 3/4″ x 6 3/4″. The thin sleeves actually come with an adhesive flap which I cut off. They are a little larger than the stamps, but I like the slightly loose fit for easy access. I labeled the sleeves in the same way I label all my stamps and dies – – using my favorite label maker. (Click HERE to see a video of the label maker in action.) I cut white cardstock inserts for support inside the pockets.

CATEGORIES

I keep the sleeves in categories with plastic dividers. The dividers are cut from inexpensive plastic folders. (You could recycle cardboard or laminate cardstock if you wanted.) I just added category titles using clear label in my label maker and rounded the corners with my Corner Chomper.

STORAGE

If you’ve seen my previous storage videos, you know I’m a big fan of the InterDesign Linus Storage Containers. I find that there are various 8″-wide containers is that work great for holding these background stamps. Here are some options:

Please look closely at the sizes before ordering. There are many options! Any container that is 7.5″ to 8″ wide would work well.

I hope you give this organizational system a try. It is really working well for me – – I find I’m using more of my background stamps now!

again, thanks for all you do!

    Thanks for the video, Jennifer!

I’m curious about what you might do with wood-mounted stamps, if you still have any. Currently I stamp them on a piece of cardstock which goes into a storage sleeve that gets filed along with my cling/clear stamps, as sort-of a placeholder/reminder. So I just flick through the one box*, and go to a woodmount stamp shelf if necessary. Any other suggestions would be welcome, however!

    * It’s actually a bit more complicated because I mostly use stamps as texture sheets for the other media I mostly work in, and I have a bunch of those that can’t work as stamps. So I have a master texture index that includes stamps and everything else, then my stamp storage box.

I don’t have any background stamps.Oh wait, I have one or 2 I think but they are wood mounted. I have way more wood mounted then cling because I’ve been stamping since the 70’s. I didn’t get a whole bunch of stamps until the 80’s when I took classes at a stamp store that is no longer in business. Boo Hoo! In those days cling stamps weren’t invented so I have tons of wood mounted stamps which I still love. I do like how you stored your background stamps and I like what you stored them in. I’ll have to check the storage they have because I could sure use some. Maybe I can use some of those stamp sleeves for my unmounted stamps? I’m going to check them out!

    Thanks Jennifer,
Your craft room storage has encoura me to get my paper craft things in order.
I do have a question, how do you store your most used markers? I have a collection of zig watercolour and copics as well a a general collection of other pens. I am struggling to find a good usable way to store them. I would love to see how you store yours 😉

Perfect timing! I’ve been hemming and hahing about what to do with the background stamps. I started out using the same pockets as the stamps, but then I purchased some of the 6×6 size and was flummoxed. Now, thanks to you, I am not! I,too, still have some wood mounted backgrounds and am ‘stealing’ the idea by Sue of stamping on the white card stock and putting in the bin as well. LOVE it when a plan comes together. Thanks!

  13. Rhandi D. says:

Great idea to store them separately from your regular stamp sets. I don’t have very many background stamps but when I am able to collect some more I will definitely be using this idea.
I hope you are enjoying your well deserved vacation with your family. Relax and enjoy!!!

Hello Jennifer, thanks for the all your storage videos, I think I’ve just about reorganized my whole craf room, lol. I do have a question or two, about how many background stamps did you fit in one container. Also for like your simon says stamp, Avery Elle, MFT, Lawn Fawn, etc how many stamp sets did you fit in that size container? I’d like to order them but I don’t want to buy to much or not enough. So if you can give an approximate amount I’d have a better idea of how many fit and then I can count my sets up,and order the right amount. Also it looks like you store your sets by manufacturer. That’s how I store mine right now but I’m finding it hard. I was wondering what your thought was on storing by say theme or category? Like say all flower sets or all animals etc. do you find it easier by manufacturer? I know when I go to look for say animals it drives me crazy to have to go through each and every company to find what I’m looking for because I can’t remember every stamp set I have. Thanks for all you do:)

thank you for the review, i think both versions of container would work, the lip makes it easy to pull in and out of a shelf, but the extra storage with the ones wihtout lip also is appealing 😉

I like this system for cling stamps the small ones (sentiments and small images) and this weekends project is to work on this system for BG stamps and large stamps. I would like to see your craft room layout in another video sometime soon.

  44. Jackie in NC says:

You are an organizational master (mistress?). I love seeing how you keep everything in its place and looking good at the same time. My background stamps are all in one pretty plastic bin I found at Office Max, but not in individual sleeves and sometimes they stick together. I need to get some of those sleeves and some pretty folders for dividers, too. I am enjoying your vacation photos and wish I was there. Those islands are gorgeous. It must be hard to return to the real world.
