More Favorites

A few weeks ago, I did a quick post sharing some of my favorite things. I got lots of emails asking for more posts like this, so I am back with another! (Don’t worry – this isn’t taking the place of a card/video post. Just an occasional bonus. 🙂 )

I really should come up with a better word than “things” since some of the “things” mentioned aren’t “things.” LOL. Sometimes it will be a video, blog, charity, sale, or site worth visiting. Some are crafty. Some aren’t. Just a fun mix.

Here are links to the products featured above. Affiliate links are used in some cases.

(1) New Mini Distress Ink Colors – Finally! Yay! The four newest colors of Distress Ink are now available for pre-order in mini size. I personally like the size and am thankful for the lower price point. These colors are divine.

(2) Instagram – If you aren’t on Instagram, I highly recommend it. Unlike some other social media, it is a happy place. No drama. No negativity. Just people sharing happiness. (Doesn’t the world need a little more of that?!) I have met some awesome crafty folks over there.

Are you looking for some new folks to follow? Try these:

  • mintarrow – deal-sharer.
  • dallasclayton – a happy illustrator.
  • starofmay – my dear friend – she shares awesome handwriting pieces.
  • hiitmax – great exercise moves. (Warning – he posts a lot.)
  • harlowandsage – dogs that will make you smile big time.
  • By the way, you can find me there, too – just head HERE.

(3) Food Rules – I am a big believer that it is incredibly important to eat the right foods and to take care of your body. But – like you – I don’t have time to keep up with all the “rules” for eating healthy. This book? This was what changed my life several years ago. It is super short and to the point. It literally is not filled with tons of words but rather simple sentences that are easy to understand and remember. It is a life-changer. Everyone has time for this book.

(4) Kelly Latevola’s Blog – I have always said that this industry is filled with great people. Well, Kelly Latevola is one of those people… and her blog focuses on sharing the work of other great crafters. It is very inspiring, happy and giving. Check it out.

(5) Mask-erade Online Card Class – Our newest Online Card Class is coming up and it is all about masking. I will share more about it soon. Hope to see you there!

(6) Mama Elephant Doggy Stamps – I know lots of you are cat lovers and there are many great stamps out there for you. But those of us who are dog people? We are always looking for more doggy stamps. This new set from Mama Elephant has won my heart.

I would love to hear of any of your favorites – crafty or non-crafty. Feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Have a great day!

  1. I. I have no words. Thank you so much for your kindness. You have truly touched my heart. I am so very grateful to have you as a friend. You want to know my favorites? YOU! You’re my definitely one of my favorites !! You and coffee 🙂

  2. Right now, my favorite thing is my new ceramic pots and pans. Oh my, do I love these!! they cook beautifully and clean up is a breeze. I don’t need butter or oil to even scramble an egg. I threw away all my non stick teflon pans and will never go back. Second favorite thing…… Nordstrom.com – free shipping and free returns. How can you beat that???

I do enjoy reading your favorite things so keep it up!

  3. I’m totally with you on Instagram. I’m using it to follow lots of lovely crafty people and everyone is just plain nice. Welcome change from Facebook! My favourite crafty things right now are my new Spectrum Aqua markers, my Ranger dye inks and shaker sequins from Lucy Abrams. My favourite non crafty things are always my two little monkeys aged 4 and 1 and my wonderful husband. Thank you for helping a novice crafter to learn more 🙂

  4. One of my favorite things is my Pazzles Vue cutter. The Pazzles peeps are awesome! They have amazing support–both tech support and learning to use the machine, with video’s and an almost weekly free online class (live!) where the lovely Klo teaches us all the in’s and out’s of the machine and software. I was not very computer literate when I began, I do all this crafting stuff as a hobby. I like that I can do so many things, from designing my own stuff, using pre-designed quick and easy cut stuff, yes, it’s a nice work out for my brain and I even use the software to layout my projects–then I can save the design on my computer and use again. So cool! I can combine stamped designs with the die cuts–and plan it all easily in my design software. This machine is a crafting machine, does so much more than straight die cutting. I also have to say, Jennifer, you are one of my favorite bloggers, I learn so much from you. I love all the great new techniques, again, more workout for the brain and creativity!

  5. I like your list of favourites and it makes me dream. Can’t wait for the online Mask-erade class to start but until then I have a garden to finish planting and a house full of windows who need washing. It is finally Spring here in Northern British Columbia . Thanks for sharing from your life!

  6. I have read a book by the same author and it is so amazing and awakening, so to say. If you can get your hands on it, this is how it’s called ”The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals”.

  7. My favourite things: flowers, especially the ones I grow myself as I have nurtured them from seed/ bulb to the flower I cut for the vase ( have you seen Erin’s blog from Floret Farm? She is another source of inspiration in growing flowers for cutting, just like you are in card making); making jewellery; and recently, papercraft! Love watercolours and trying to practise the techniques more, drawing is difficult! But not impossible. Need to open an Instagram account, thank you for reminding me.

  8. right now I’m starting to get addicted to instagram… 😀 other that that, my favorite is flowers – in whatever form – stamps, paper or real.. more delightful is making one 🙂

  9. I always enjoy your favorite lists and your recommendations. 🙂 They give me great leads to different inspiring crafters who I wouldn’t have found otherwise. It’s another reason why I love your industry, there’s nobody cutting other people down. Instead, there’s so much support and respect for each person’s individual style and talent.

Thank you and and may you always be blessed.

  10. Love Instagram. Love flipping through it for crafty inspiration. And HarlowandSage! They make me smile. So does Lila, you can see how big her heart is, always makes me smile when your kids show up in my feed.

My current favorite thing continues to be the Project Life app. I’m amazed how easy it is to keep up with scrapbooking. So when I have time to paper craft, I can concentrate on fun embellishments or making cards.

  11. i love reading about your favourites…thanks for sharing these and opening our eyes to new things that are not always crafty. I am loving my Mama Elephant Three Amigos set…so versatile with all its sentiments. In the kitchen I love my ceramic pans…really are quiet amazing. Thanks for letting me know about Instagram….have always thought of it as just another social media site but your explanation of it sounds way more positive.

  12. I just discovered Cranberry Mango juice and love it. I also think the new Mama Elephant stamps are great.

  13. Love your “youtube videos”!! Maybe in the future you can do a video about how to put products with “inlinkz”. I tried, but it says that you must be affiliate to the company. Greetinngs:)

  14. Always fun to read your lists. Instagram is great! I’ve really enjoyed the crafting input but also, National Geographic (natgeo) , amazing pictures of our planet! Such inspiration for colors and combos! Thanks for sharing!

  15. Love your lists!! I have a question. Can you remind me of the book you recommended awhile ago. I think the topic was organizing your life. Sorry I can’t be more specific but I can’t seem to find that post where you mentioned it but it perked my interest.

  16. Thank you for this post. I love it, short and sweet. 🙂

I am also super excited about the new mini Distress Inks! My absolute favorite product at the moment is the Lots of Stars stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. I got it last week and I really just want to use it with every single card I make. I just love stars!

  17. I am so so excited to see Kelly there on your blog! She is one of those incredibly nice, loving and caring people and her CASEing Genius feature just proves it to be true! She is also so amazingly talented crafter and I am so happy that you have featured her since more people need to find her awesome work. We have chatted many times and I think I have found my kindred spirit. She also introduced me to Instagram and I quite addicted to it now, it really is a happy place as you mentioned! 😀

  18. One of my favorite things? Which is my favorite child? Almost the same thing – almost. Right now I’m loving my MISTI. Seems whatever you show, I have to get. Is a laminator my next best friend? I don’t know yet because I’m working with Tim Holtz’ sticky glitter for foiling and I’m happy so far. You are such an inspiration and you’re right up there with one of my favorite things (though for sure you’re not a thing).

  19. Thanks so much for sharing! It’s fun to see crafting and non-crafting things from my favorite bloggers (helps me to remember to be more rounded and not just craft-obsessed!)

A favorite tool of mine is an app called Map My Walk. I love walking and I’m blessed with a BFF who also loves walking and is available when I am to go on walks. The app uses the GPS in my phone to show our path as well as our distance, split times, calories burned, vertical gain, etc. It will post your walk to Facebook, too, if you want to share with your friends there. You get a whole lot for free with this one. I think I upgraded to the + version when they had a sale, and it seems to have less adds coming up when I just want to get started recording our workout.

Now to just get an app that tracks my gardening, LOL! I know it’s a good workout, that’s for sure, but thankfully something that I love as much as my walks.

  20. My favorite crafty thing would HAVE to be my MISTI!
My favorite non-crafty (well kind of, they love crafts) would be my young grandsons!

  21. I love seeing your favorites! If you like it and recommend it, then I know it’s a good quality product. Speaking of favorites. …. what was the hand-held vacuum you recommended awhile back? I’m looking for one now that I have a toddler who feeds himself. It can get quite messy, and I would like to have a small vacation that works well and holds a charge. Thanks so much!

  22. I love seeing your favorites too. My favorite crafty thing is learning new crafts or techniques. Finding time to use them is another story. This time of year my favorite thing is to be outside doing some yard work, gardening, swimming, eating al fresco…..

  23. My favorite thing is my adorable grandson. I wish they were closer, but I do get to Ohio to visit several times a year, at least. Thanks for sharing Kelly’s blog – I am adding it to my Feedly reader, it’s wonderful!

  24. Funny thing – just moments before I saw your post, I pre-ordered the new distress inks!

  25. Love seeing your lists. You are quite the enabler! 😉 I have a few favorites — both crafty and non. I am loving the Hero Arts ombre inks and the new Papertrey Ink beer glass stamps! They are a must-have for all the men in my life. On the non-crafty front, I just finished a thrilling book called Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta. It will make the perfect summer beach read although, I warn you that you will not be able to put it down so it may lead to the reader becoming anti-social or sleep-deprived!

Caspari hankies – hate those hand air dryers, so pull out a hankie
    Ipad and iphone

Mac power users podcast – often over my head but have learned a lot from it.

And Jennifer McGuire Ink – love Lila (the sparkle in her eyes is special and Colin partial to boys) and have learned a lot from her blog!

  27. I love Food Rules, too, great book. Thanks for sharing these lists of your favorites! FYI, I bought the rice cooker and the water infusing pitcher you had recommended previously (last year?) and I love them both. Anyhoo, keep up all the great videos chocked full of techniques and talent that you share with us. Here’s a wish list item: please feature some cards that would be appropriate for males in general and teenage/young adults specifically. Have a wonderful week.

  28. Happy Mail, my grandchildren, watercoloring, chocolate, beef and bean burritos, salsa con queso dip on tortilla chips, Stampendous Stamps’ Cat and Dog stamps and dies sets, also their Forest Friends stamps and die set, Sue Wilson Dies, Spellbinders, Graphic 45, Clear Scraps, hearing that someone has beat Cancer, ice cold water, Chocolate covered mint oreo cookies, YOUR BLOG and a cool summer breeze on a day spent with family and friends!

  29. Thanks for sharing.I absolutly love instagram. so much better than most of the other social media sites. I love seeing your precious little Lila. She puts a smile on my face every time i see her! My new favorite things are Little Things from Lucy’s Cards. They are sequin-confetti mixes with great names like English Rose. If I never use them (I will) it is not a waste of money because I can’t stop looking at them. They are so beautiful!! I just got 3 mixes now I can’t wait to get the rest. Your videos are my favorite also-I can’t wait to see what you have for us next. Thank you so much.

  30. I like the Mama Elephant doggie stamps too. Have seen some cards made with them and they make me smile. I love making cards. I love the videos I get a chance to view for new ideas and techniques and the people who share their wonderful talent. I love baseball, football and soccer. I love to take walks in the woods to reengergize. I love coffee with Peppermint Mocha creamer (limit one cup per day). I would love to figure out Instagram…don’t know how to share. I love chocolate and Mexican and Chinese food. Oh and Italian too. Keep your videos coming….I love watching them.

  31. It’s always fun to read your favorite things, Jennifer! I truly value your opinions. My favorites include: wonderful teachers, flowers and herbs from my garden, Susan Branch, taking long walks, OWH, watercolors (currently enjoying the OCC Watercolor for Card Makers), and your wonderful videos! Tomorrow my new ZIG Clean Color Real Brush pens will arrive. I don’t have a lot of markers and after watching your video, I knew they were the right ones for me! Also in the package will be ‘The Art of Tidying Up.’ (I think you recommended that book a while back.) Your favorite things are always an inspiration! I’ve been thinking seriously that I’d like to try Instagram, too. I’m kind of shy and don’t do other social media (only my blog). I enjoy the creativity, encouragement, and kindness I see on IG whenever I visit you, Sandy, Kristina, Dawn, Vicky, and Lydia for inspiration. Please keep sharing your favorite things! ♡

  32. Fun post, Jennifer! I have some new things to check out now. 🙂

I think my current new favorite thing is probably my ScanSnap scanner. I’m trying to go mostly paperless, and this thing is fantastic for quickly scanning documents. (Does it make sense for a paper-crafter to want to go paperless?)

  33. Jennifer, just wanted to pop in and say You’re the Best!

Love your favorites posts. Enjoyed visiting Kelly’s blog, a place I’d never been, am excited for new Distress minis and love Michael Pollan’s books.

I signed up for Mask-erade a couple of weeks ago, but I’m going to be out of town while it’s live, so I’ll have to catch up when I come home, but I’m glad to have it to look forward to.

Now I just really need to get up with Instagram…someday I’ll join that party 🙂

  34. Thanks for the book idea. I stopped by the library and picked it up. It’s been a fun read so far! My new fav thing is my MISTI! I was able to make 15 thank you cards for my students to write out to the Purple Heart recipient who came to visit our class. We have just finished reading a book about the Vietnam era entitled “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien. Soon my school days will be ending and I can create with abandon! yay!

  40. Thank you so much for sharing this Jennifer. I love your posts and your inspiration and your positivity. You are a wonderful light. I have started following most of those you listed for instagram so maybe I will develop a habit of actually going there to see what is up. I LOVE the dog posts. I was laughing so hard at some of them, I got a tear in my eyes. Is there anything better than happy tears? Keep doing what you do so well!
    Pat

  41. Love IG and agree with you about it is a happy place. Love that! Love FB and other crafters’ blogs like yours, as well certain scrapbooking blogs too. Thanks for heads up on other people to watch.
