Videos: Layered Stenciling + New Lawn Fawn

Hello! Today I have TWO videos. One shows a way to do layered stenciling and the other shows a look at the newest Lawn Fawn release. (It is a REALLY good one!)

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Click HERE to watch on YouTube.]

I love making happy cards, and I think this card fits that description! I started by die cutting a stitched banner with the new Lawn Fawn Stitched Party Banners die set. These dies are perfect for creating banners to hang for decorations, but I used them for a card.

Next up? Some layered/masked stenciling. I first used Salty Ocean Distress Ink over the Hero Arts Cloud Stencil for the soft clouds. (The Mini Inking Tool makes this so easy!) I then masked the clouds off with the masks that come with this stencil. (Isn’t that a great bonus? If your stencil doesn’t come with the matching masks, you can easily create your own. Just ink the same shape on scrap paper and cut the shape out. There you go – you have a mask!) I next created my own sun ray stencil by die cutting a piece of scrap plastic with the SSS sunshine die. (I used plastic so I could use it over and over again.) After applying Scattered Straw Distress Ink, I removed the DIY stencil and cloud masks, revealing a dimensional-looking, inked background.

I did some quick Copic coloring on the new Lawn Fawn lighthouse image and stamped the greeting. I finished the stamped area with a bit of Wink of Stella shimmer and a few sequins to hide a boo boo. Finally, I added it to a notecard covered with some adorable Lawn Fawn 6×6 paper.

I have always been a big fan of Lawn Fawn. The owners are so very wonderful and I really like that they stick to their style and do it so well. Somehow each release keeps getting better and better and this one is the best. I did a little video showing a close-up look at these new products and some ideas for using them…

I am laughing so hard at what you said about someone critiquing a card.. and never sending another.. oh gosh.. too funny. thank you for always being such a joy to watch. I can’t wait to get some of these new goodies from Lawn Fawn. thanks again ~ Pam

  2. Thanks for sharing both videos! I do enjoy the product release walk throughs. They are nice & to the point, but with some great ideas. I am dying over those robots. I have been looking all over for a cute robot set for over a year now. I am so very glad she came out with one!

  3. Thank you so much, Jennifer! I really like the product close-up videos. It helps me to see and know what I really want to buy since most of these awesome products are not available in my area! I really appreciate your time and talent.

  4. i would love to see you using the branch from the smore set in a way not related to the set itself. i have a tendency to get stuck when using stamps in a completely different way than the set. i adore lawn fawn products, they were one of the first companies i started purchasing! can’t wait to see all you do with the new releases!!!

  5. I think this is such a cute card. Thanks for including the boo boo. It helps to know the pros make mistakes too! Great idea for covering it up. I also appreciate the video on the new Lawn Fawn release. I agree that is a great company. We had the pleasure of meeting them at Scrap Fest in MN and they immediately won us over. I now have tons of Lawn Fawn and prior to that trip, I’d never heard of them. Thanks again for all you do!

  6. Can I just say GA! Your creative imagination makes me wanna curse you some days, I must say. The card is adorable. Truly.

  7. Thanks for sharing these videos. I love hearing how you would use these. It gives me lots of ideas!!! I love following your videos thank you so much for taking the time to share!!!!

  8. Great card! I liked the stamp layering. They do have great news stamps out! I’ve never bought Lawn Fawn product before. I just might have to get me some new stamps! Thank you for the tutorial!

  9. Love the layered cloud and sun ray stencils, Jennifer – they make this a really happy card πŸ™‚ The new Lawn Fawn release is fab – I have been enjoying it on their blog too but your video gives a great overview! Love the stitched banner – I love that stitched edge detail in dies at the moment and some of the stamp sets are so cute….my boys would love the robots! Thanks for sharing more inspiration and great products.

  10. Wow Jennifer thank you so much for those videos especially that one showing the products although it’s not good for my account because now I want to buy everything. i really love this release such great products indeed. Your card is amazing as always thanks so much for sharing.

  11. I would NEVER critique your cards or colouring if you sent one my way πŸ™‚
LOVE your card design, LOVE the layers and LOVE how you shared your boo boo & made it even better!!!
THANK YOU for the inspiration and the introduction to the new releases from Lawn Fawn too!!!

  12. Love both video’s Jennifer. Thank you for them. I especially love the new edgy Jennifer. Who would dare negatively critique the Queen of Card making?? If you can not say something nice then do not say anything as my mother always said. Thanks again Jen.

  13. Thanks Jennifer for two great videos. The sunny happy light house card using the new lawn fawn products is just so great for a unisex card, would make anyone happy!

  14. Thank you for organizing my thoughts on when I get stamps that are ordered. ( tend to order and forget the many projects they can me used for)
What about doing an online card class on alphabet dies and stamps πŸ˜‰
    Wonderful videos

  15. The rays out of the lighthouse – genius! Thanks for sharing your talents and for the review of the LF stamps/dies. Can’t make up my mind which I need first.

  16. What a great card!! Love your videos. I’m really enjoying your new release videos too! Thanks so much for sharing!!

  17. Thank you for doing the product review again. It is nice to see it all up close and you tips and ideals make it GREAT. On your lighthouse card, amazing. Layering of stencils and the ease in which you colored them makes me want to try it! I would love to see beach stamps in watercolor…

  18. Another awesome card Jen! I love starting my mornings with a good ole cup of coffee while watching your videos. Your copic coloring is fantastic! Thank you for all the ideas you share with us.

  19. Both of the videos were great! I love the lighthouse set as well and have so many wonderful ideas racing through my head. I am actually enjoying the product videos as well. They have really helped me to make a more informed decision when choosing new stamps and dies. This is so much better than looking at a bunch of individual pictures!

  20. Love the layering technique. I love it. I also like the new chitchat set from Lawn Fawn, it looks like fun. I love these script word dies but I am wondering how do I use them with the cuttlebug. Do I need any other shims, etc.
Oh as for critiquing cards, I have a few friends who over-analyse as to why I used one particular embellishment etc even if I didn’t think too much of it. But they will still get cards.

  21. love your videos and love that you are a human on them making mistakes and no hide them like any one of us love how you fixed it …clever
    thanks dear

  22. I love that you do the product reviews, they are so helpful seeing them through your creative eyes. I don’t make very many cutesy cards and when I looked at several of these stamp sets before seeing your review I thought to myself that I wouldn’t use that stamp set. You have changed my mind by giving the suggestions. Thanks again for sharing your creativity and as always your videos are always so well done.

  23. Your card is adorable. Love the way you made the lighthouse beam and fixed the boo-boo. Sequins are so handy. The product review was, once again, very helpful to get my mojo working as it relates to this LF release. Thanks.

  24. The light house card is so cute. It is very whimsical and fun. Love that you create scenes with the stamps on some of your cards. I’ve had the “boo-boo” thing happen on my cards and think the sequin idea would have saved the card. I just need some more sequins in a wider range of colors! πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing the LF release and the suggestions for cards to make sounds great to me. All of them, please!

  25. I would definitely love to see you use the baby stamp set and the alphabet stamp set. You just burst with ideas for these sets! Pretty exciting! I look forward to your creations!

  26. Jennifer, you were so funny today. I loved all of your humorous comments….especially not sending someone a card again if they criticized your copic coloring. I always love your videos. You nailed all of the special things in today’s video. Thank you for making a mistake. Now I know you are human!

  27. The lighthouse card – love it!!! I have not been a big fan of the sun rays — didn’t really think I would use it much, but after seeing this card, you have got me thinking that I need it. I always love all the tips you throw into a video ….. you always get us thinking about what we can do with what we have. I agree with the other readers about making the mistake – before today, I probably would have been bummed out and may have put the card away, but now I will think of a way to cover up an ink smudge. Thank you for showing us that – and it was so easy to fix.

  28. Thanks for making the time to share the how-to and Lawn Fawn new products videos! The lighthouse card is precious & I have to say I’m glad I’m not the only one covering up boo boos πŸ™‚

  29. Super excited to watch your videos today! I am uber excited for this LF release and I’m trying to be cool about it! Lol!! Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚ glad I’m in good company! πŸ˜‰

  30. Enjoyed seeing the new products from Lawn Fawn. Love the light house card and learning how to layer stencils. Thanks for sharing.

  31. WOW!! I LOVED the Videos and the AWESOME Cards for today!! This is probably one of my most FAVORITE Lawn Fawn Releases EVER!! LOVE it!! THANKS SO MUCH for sharing and have a FABULOUS WEEKEND!! =)

  32. I took the Stenciled OCC & recognize some familiar ideas! This is such a tiny detail, but I’m going to ask because you’re so good about responding. The sequins you used are different sizes. In a past blog post you told us which brand included different sized sequins in the same pkg. At the time, I didn’t realize how scarce that kind of product was. So what brand are these sequins?

  33. Please keep those you tube videos coming. I learn so much from you and you tube is the perfect medium to use.

  34. Jennifer
You are doing a phenomenal job ! My son and I enjoy watching your videos, your coloring techniques are wonderful blessing. I have learned so much from you. I look forward to taking a class sometime soon.

  35. Beautiful card and I loved how you fixed your booboo!! I think you had three different sizes of clear sequins on your card? Do you know which brand they are? You didn’t list them in the supplies so I don’t know if it was just something you had on hand.
